Linebackers still not practicing

Linebackers Ahmad Brooks and Caleb Miller are not practicing today. The team is on the practice field now.

Brooks has a groin injury that has caused him to miss the last two games. He hurt himself early in the Cleveland game.

Miller has a back injury.

Rashad Jeanty (calf) already is declared out for the game Sunday at Kansas City.

The Bengals have four healthy linebackers: Looks for Landon Johnson, Dhani Jones and Anthony Schlegel to start if Brooks and Miller can't play. The newest Bengals linebacker is Corey Mays. Mays will play a lot of special teams.

Jones will probably be in the middle and calling defensive signals. Johnson said he is impressed with Jones' experience and strong personality, which have helped him make a quick transition into the Bengals' defensive and special teams schemes.

In the New England game Oct. 1, end Robert Geathers and safety Chinedum Ndukwe played snaps at linebacker.

This week, a guest linebacker might be John Busing. Though he is a safety, Busing -- signed to a two-year contract Wednesday from the Bengals' practice squad -- was a star linebacker at Miami in the Mid-American Conference. He is 6-feet-2, 221 pounds.

Also today, tailback Rudi Johnson (hamstring) is not practicing.

Mark,
It sounds like we do not have enough players for the game. Most of the local experts...The Cutman, You and others are picking the Bengals...how can we win if all those players are STILL HURT.

A patchwork D if there ever was one. Nice to hear that Dhani is inspiring a little confidence though.

Oh great. This must be some sort of record for injuries to the linebackers. How ironic, considering that this was an abundant position in training camp. Hard to be optimistic about Sunday with all of these injuries.

Interesting how Marvin said that Brooks would start against New England but that he's not practicing two weeks later. Maybe Doc Kremcheck was involved.

KC is going to kick ass this week. 4 healthy linebackers? By the third quarter we'll no doubt be down to 3 exhausted linebackers, Larry Johnson should run for 300 yards. Good thing we have the high-powered offense to keep us close! KC and the points is about as sure a bet as you'll find in the NFL all year long. Why does this incompetent organization find it so hard to put 6 or 7 linebackers in uniform for a game with 2 weeks' notice? Idiots!

KC will win EASILY.

Whatever happened to Hartwell. First I hear he is pushing hard to take over Brooks job then the next thing I know he is cut. I figured we would have called him up by now, he only participated with us during the whole training camp.

Am I the only one who finds it troubling and perplexing that:

1. Kept a roster spot for Jeanty instead of putting him on PUP until week 7 (why roll the dice)?!?!

2. Continue to mis-diagnose the health of Brooks (expected to play NE)?!?!

3. Provide more depth by signing another LB rather than adding Busing who is a safety?!?!

Then again, it is the Bengals!

I should have read on before leaving last comment. Thanks for the clarification on the PUP.

What about Edgeron Hartwell who spent all training camp with the team? Got to be better than nothing....Here we go again, 4 healthy linebackers and you know 1 or 2 will get hurt this weekend.

I love John Busing-pronounced Bee-sing. He is a great fit for this defense as either a fast linebacker or a big-hitting safety. Secondly, why haven't they signed Terna Nande yet? He worked out with the team a couple of weeks ago and I haven't heard anything yet.

How is it possible for Frostee Rucker to be hurt all the time when he has yet to dress for a game. When did this wrist injury occur? Its one thing after the other with this guy; I mean obviously he is talented or they would let him go, but I thought his injury had to do with his leg?

The media in Cincy is terrible. Tab Perry has hip problems again, Frostee has a wrist problem, Chris Perry is eligible to come back Monday.....yet this is all we know about any of it. No idea how these injuries happened or are coming along.

Also there was a good article in the NY times regarding Odell and his lawsuit. Not the least bit surprising Local media hasn't touched it in weeks

How stupid can the Bengals get? Call Guiness. This is the worst-run sports franchise with the most incompetent owner west of Great American Ball Park!

Ever hear of undrafted free-agents you morons? Four linebackers? You have got to be kidding! If KC doesn't score 60 points it only be because they'll need 47 to beat Mike Brown's Folly.

Mark- Tell the Bengals to sign the UFA Linebacker, Ryan Riddle to the team. They tried him out a couple weeks ago and sent him back home. The kid was a star at Cal and is sitting at home when he could be helping the Bengals win a game or two.
