OK, I see a Bengals victory Sunday

The Bengals stunk it up in the season's first month, no question.

There are still a lot of question marks, especially on defense. And the sight of linebacker Ahmad Brooks on the sideline during practice Monday was not a good one for the Bengals.

But, the Bengals offense is good enough to move the ball and score on a good Kansas City defense. All, yeah, all, and it's a big ALL, the Bengals need to do is slow down Larry Johnson, similar to how they made Shaun Alexander earn his 100 yards in Week 3. And Cincinnati's special teams were solid against excellent teams for New England in the Monday night loss. I'm sure special teams coach Darrin Simmons has lost a lot of sleep in the past six weeks.

Not sure of a score yet -- maybe in the 24-17 area -- but I see the Bengals improving to 2-3 on Sunday. And, really, they should follow that up with a victory at home the following week against the Jets (I know, play them one at a time, Page 12 of the Coaching Cliche pamphlet) and heading into the Steelers game with a .500 record.

These next two are pivotal. No excuses -- don't blame injuries, the media, etc. The Bengals can regain their season in the next two weeks.

Thanks for the post and the good work, Mark. I know injuries are a part of the game...I think that is page 6 of the Coaching Cliche pamphlet, but I have a distinct feeling this is about conditioning. Any chance the Bengals look at the personnel in that department or at least what they are doing in the offseason and between games?

Mark - Is there any truth to the rumor that Marvin is lobbying for a GM? There's a rumor on profootballtalk.com saying so. I can't imagine it would end up public but you never know.

If the Bengals do end up 3-3, it will just suck us all back in and make us believe. What will be interesting to see is how the Bengals' defense plays against KC and the Jets. If they can (or have the ability) to play mediocre defense, I will be more comfortable going into the Steelers game. A win is a win but I won't become a believer if we barely get by the next two opponents. To lose to either team would be disastrous to the season.

What is the story behind the Donnie Henderson sightings at practice? Is it possible that a change at defensive coordinator is in the works?

The thing that makes this team no fun to follow is that you really can't predict their effort due to the lack of discipline and cohesiveness.

You would sure hope that they were thoroughly embarassed with a 1-3 start and are chomping at the bit to show that they are much better than that, but you would have thought that they would have been able to do better than give up 51 to the Browns.

I can see a Bengals victory Sunday too, Mark. I can also see a Bengals loss. I can still a big win, a close win, a big loss and a close loss.

Boy this is some fun, huh?

You're dreaming. The Bengals' defense will be run over by Johnson and shredded by Bowe. Think a new and inexperienced QB and a team in a tailspin can't get healthy quick against our mis-coached team? Hah! A lot you know!

KC 43, Cincy 40

I agree with the above comments that the next two games of the season are must wins for us and if we don't find ourselves at .500 going against Pittsburgh we might as well kiss a divisional championship goodbye. All I want to see from the next two games is some sound, disciplined defense, no careless penalties, and no major injuries. Our offense isn't broken so we don't change anything there. Just play within our roles and we should do fine for the next 2 weeks. Then we build up some confidence and team unity and let Pittsburgh come to the Jungle in a huge divisional game. Give Roethlesberger something to cry about and maybe cast some team dissention spells on the Burgh's offensive unit.. haha Let's get it rollin right now Cincy!!

Whats the chances of Brodie Croyle doing what Derek Anderson did against the Bengals defense?

I think the Bengals should be a little better off against these teams seeing as how they are more run oriented teams.. The Bengals struggle much more against teams that spread out the ball.. Something similar to the Ravens offense that they are always and have been very capable of containing.. They should be able to contain both these offenses and score against these defenses as well.. Producing two victories..

This game reminds me of a game last year that basically ruined the season. Tampa Bay. It's a road game and KC has a good defense coupled with a young, inexperienced QB. Let's hope it doesn't come down to a ref's call.
