The 4 o'clock meeting

I've been told that every Bengals player attended the 4 p.m. team meeting. It was called last night by coach Marvin Lewis, after the 34-13 loss to New England.

Players met with Lewis, their respective coordinators and position coaches. They watched film of the game. Players who needed medical treatment received it. Some players exercised to burn off muscle soreness from the game.

The point of the day was to move past the New England game and get onto the practices Wednesday and Thursday before the three-day bye weekend.

That's it? Sounds like a normal meeting to me.

Big deal. Same old Bengals.

Is Henry suspended the first 8 weeks or first 8 games? He's not the savior, but this team desperately needs him.

And maybe it's time to try and work something out for Odell. Any more word on his lawsuit?

How many players got injured during the meeting?

It's unfortunate that the team has lost it's sense of being since it has been riddled with a combination of injuries and stupidity by players who only care about themselves getting into trouble off the field. Now the problem has carried over to the team on the field and the lack of performance is showing. The key incidents which took place were Pollack getting severely hurt along with several bengals getting arrested. Unfortunately Polllack couldn't help whaty happened to him and has shown great leadership in coming back and showing an interest in the team still. I'll take players like him all day. Odell Thurman and Chris Henry were the most significant blows to the team which shouldn't have occurred. While both are excellent players they have no idea along with some other players what it means to be a real team player on and off the field. I feel sorry for Marvin Lewis that he has to take the blount of this mess as a result of him and the bengals giving these guys an opportunity to play. I only hope that these guys who lack discipline in the sense that they caused this situation to occur can stand up and be counted on in the future to be a better example to the team as well as themselves.

A 3 day weekend????!!!! If I performed in my job like that, the last thing I'd get is a three day weekend (unless it was at work making up). What they need is a three day session of team building activities.

As if any of them would not show up....

The Bengals still have a very talented team, but I don't see a strong sense of leadership there, unlike the Patriots.

I've been a Bengals fan through the best of times in the 80's, and worst in the 90's and early 2000's. I'm not ready to give up, but they do have a long way to go.

Kudos to Carson for stepping up in the post game interview, and taking responsibility. That is a sign of leadership.

Marvin is funny, demanding that if you don't show up for a meeting then you don't want to play. Yeah all those guys don't want those big paychecks. It would have been funny in nobody showed up except the coaches. Then Marivn and Chuck could suit up fot the next game. Oh Marvin just are such an Indian Hill tool.

I agree w/ the Browns fan completely. Marvin brought this team from pathetic to average and even somewhat good in 05 and he gained a lot of credibility and goodwill in the process. However, he has been unable to get this team to the elite level that they should be given the time he has had and the talent that he has had to work with. His in game coaching decisions are often questionable and he has not drafted well over the past 4 years (see Chris Perry over Stephen Jackson). Lastly, the team plays with a lack of discipline and poise which is a direct reflection of their coaching. I think the majority of fans (including myself) want him to succeed in getting the Bengals over the hump and into the top teir of AFC/NFL teams, however, he needs to voice his accountability for their current short comings.

Marvin Lewis is the king of meaningless gestures. There is nothing that can be done to save this season. What needed to have been done was in the offseason. The Patriots added Moss and Welker and Thomas. And they were already much better than the Bengals!!!!!!

The draft this year stunk, and their big free agent signing was Ed "Can't Make The Roster even after everyone is hurt" Hartwell.

What can be done now? Sign someone from the CFL? It's a freaking joke!!!

If there was only a way to force Mike Brown to sell the team... barring that we're just hosed forever. It never matters where the Bengals draft because they stink at drafting, and it doesn't matter what free agents are available next offseason because the Bengals are just going to lose Justin Smith and add a big fat nobody!

I was the biggest supporter of Marvin but I am constantly befuddled by the stupid mistakes he makes in every single game.

1)Going for two in the seahawks game???

2)Why did he challenge the "out of bounds" spot of the sammy morris run and not the fumble???

3)Leaving Carson and Chad and TJ in the game with 34-13 with 2:40 left in the game???? TJ limped off and imagine if Carson would have gotten sacked and hurt?? why does he keep doing these dumb mistakes...its really made me lose a lot of confidence in his decisionmaking.

4)Twice going for field goals on fourth and 1, in the NE game knowing that his defense is playing with 1 linebacker and no way to stop NE...why not go for it and get momentum on your side????????

Hey everybody, the team showed up for the 4:00 meeting! Now if we could only get them to SHOW UP FOR GAMES.

The offseason is there for a reason, to improve and tweak your team. The Bengals blew this offseason when they decided to waste their money on Justin Smith and keeping John Thorton. These two guys are making about 13m combined. Imagine if the money were used to sign Adelous Thomas and keeping a young bull like Shawn Smith at DT. They knew they needed a third wide out because of Henry's suspension, why get rid of Kelly Washington to sign a bum like Chatman? Hmm imagine Thomas, Brooks and Landon johnson as your LB's instead of CFL and has been and never were backers! Not signing Thomas in the offseason was a huge mistake and it came to bite them on Mon night when he got a sack and was a disruptive force all night. But why should we worry we have Justin Smith....lol and let's not forget Thorton, the one tacke in the league that gets blown 5yrd's of the line every snap regardless who it is. When Hank Fraley dominated him in the browns gm that is all I needed to see. Draft blunders and free agency retardation and you have 1-3

Here are some answers:

1) You're right, the two point conversion try was just stupid.

2) He challenged the out of bounds issue on that run because (I think) you cannot throw the flag to challenge a down by contact/fumble ruling.

However, once the play is under review -- the officials look at everything. So, I think he was hoping for a reversal on the fumble call and the out of bounds was just an excuse.

3) I mostly agree. I assume he wanted to play the starters to make them work for something positive in the game -- or soemthing like that.

4) He went for the field goals each time because at each point we needed field goals plus touchdowns to tie the game. So, it makes sense to take the points you can get when you need them.

Now everything will change since they had a meeting? I know we do not know anything about football, all they had to do was get yelled at and have a meeting! Sweet now that that is over...

Championship!

The Bengals have no heart!

Except breaking mine every week.

John Thornton can still be effective as part of a tackle rotation. The problem is they miss Shaun Smith and don't have depth at the position. The player personnel moves remind me of the old days. We pick up waier guys like Marshall, Schlegel and Jones. They need to play a safety in the box to support the run but the corners are so bad in man coverage it's a bad idea. Justin Smith at $8 mil is insane. The Bengals frugality is killing the defensive depth and ultimately the team. As for the offense, the offensive line is a good pass blocking unit but one of the worst in run blocking. I'm afraid Rudi is washed up and they are very one dimensional offensively. And their coverage units and return team is only makeing the matter worse.

Their schedule is soft this year and if they don't go 10-6 and make the playoffs you have to consider this season a failure.

What happened to the linebacker Dhani Jones? We signed him Setptember 19. Where is he? Was he not supposed to strengthen the linebackers? Has he played? No news of him since the signing.

Sad to see we have so many paycheck players who are not committed to winning. We should have a rule: No win, no pay.

Please explain to me the optimism in a guy who played in the CFL two years ago coming back for the KC game and a guy who played 1/2 of a college season two years ago and combined have less than 20 starts in the NFL???

Again, Bengal fans.....PLEASE STEP INTO REALITY!!!!! 6-10!!!!

You're not paying close attention. I think Dhani Jones has played in both games since he got here.

I know he played almost every defensive snap Monday night as one of their two surviving linebackers. I think he had 5 tackles.

But you can't expect great things from a guy who has been with your team for 11 days (as of Monday). Also, if he were in his prime, he wouldn't have been released.

I HAVE BEEN A BENGAL FAN AND I WAIT FOR THIS SEASON EVERY YEAR BUT THE STUPIDITY OF WHAT SOME HAVE DONE WITH THE LAW IS RIDICULOUS. THEY HAVE HUMILIATED THE CITY, LET DOWN THERE TEAM AND FANS. GET RID OF THEM HE SHOULD BE BEHIND BARS ANYWAY. SPEND SOME MONEY FOR GOOD PLAYERS A PRETTY STADIUM DOESNT LOOK GOOD WITH PLAYERS WHO ARE GREAT AND FELONS WHO DONT DESERVE TO SIT THE BENCH. THE NFL NEEDS TO BUCK UP AND PUT MONEY WHERE IT GOES. THEY LOOK LIKE A BACKYARD FOOTBALL TEAM. VERY DISAPPOINTED. MY OPINION!!!

Marvin makes mistakes but we can't blame Marvin for everything. Becoming a team worth talking about went to some of the players heads and now all they think about are the endorsements and publicity which will soon face if you don't play the game. It is sad to see a team that could and should do so well fall due to young selfish players who don't see the whole picture.

The only thing more patheic than the Bengals Monday night showing was the fans Monday night showing, the same fans who c=onsistently quit on this team every Sunday and every season unless they dominate the entire time. News flash: it is the NFL and the other team wants it at least as bad as our team, so it ain't gonna be easy. Certainly some of our players need to understand this, but so do almost all of our so-called fans. The Bengals are fine, they will finish 9 and 7 and make the playoffs, but probably lose in the first round unless they can play the Steelers, which would be very interesting. I hope when it happens every one of you who is talking smack now will shut up and admit that you were wrong and that you are just as much or more of a quitter than you are accusing the team of being. As far as they should have dome this or that in the offseason, this was not the year but expect some moves this upcoming year to develop depth and make the final transition to a roster of Marvin-guys. We will actually have some money to make moves, unlike last year.
