Chad in walking boot

Chad Johnson's injured left ankle is encased in a protective walking boot this afternoon. The wide receiver is not practicing. He stood on the field talking with offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski during early drills.

Also not practicing are wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh and defensive lineman Domata Peko and Jonathan Fanene (right knee).

Linebacker Rashad Jeanty (calf), who has not played all season, worked on the side with strength and conditioning coaches. Tailback Chris Perry (ankle) walked out to practice with cleats on. He was not practicing but appeared headed to a workout with trainers.

Tailback Rudi Johnson (hamstring), right tackle Willie Anderson (heel, knee) and wide receiver Tab Perry (hamstring) were not practicing.

Was this Housh's standard day off, or did he hurt himself on the last offensive play of the game? I saw him appear to limp off. Hope everyone gets healthy for week 6.

Chad is OK. The boot is there to make it harder for him to put his foo in his mouth.

Good to see Chris Perry is advancing. If he's ever going to shake the injury curse this is the year he could really make a HUGE impact.

I'm sorry but I simply can't be angry at this team for being 1-3. We simply have way too many injured players to compete at this level. And you can't expect someone you sign just over a week ago to come in and be a huge player maker. Our bye week couldn't have came at a better time. We're getting some injured players back soon and our next two games are very winable games. Just two more wins and we're 3-3 and have a 10 week season. 10-6 is still not out of the question. My only complaint is that year after year we are one of the teams with the most injuries. That simply has to come down to the strenght and conditioning coaches. Other teams seem to not have this problem.

How can we forget to mention Marvin Lewis hobbling around on crutches?

If they could get that boot to fit his mouth, they would be better off.

What a great job to have, go to work one night, do a horrible job, come back to work for a day, and get 3 days off. They're probably going to Carson's to play more Halo 3. If anything they should be out on that field day and night, working for their jobs because after the last couple of games, they don't even seem high school football ready... I know being a football player isn't easy, but come on, alittle effort would be nice every once in awhile...

That's one beat up team, yo.

What happened to Chad? I didn't put myself through watching the game.

I hope he's not hurt bad, or worse yet, he's getting a touch of the Randy Moss win-or-quit-trying syndrome.

Who cares...this team stinks...over paid crybabies...you don't hear of all these "injury" problems with the Pats, Colts, Steelers, etc....those guys suck it up and play and practice.

The Bungles are back and we're gonna be in trouble....hey Melvin, hey Melvin, thanks for bring the Bungles back!!

This season is going to be one to forget. Tons of injuries, infighting, losing games we should have won. Something has to change. Being "on the cusp" of being a premier team in the NFL can only last so long. Either you excel or you lose ground. Right now the Bengals are losing ground.

Get well soon Chad and don't worry about the playerhating, wannabe, unathletic media hacks who hate the fact that you make more money in one season than they are going to make in the life time. the truth is, Chad is a great player and a great addition to the Cincinnati area. Dont let the overly conservitive, tight wade media and fans get you down. the 'inner city fans" have your back. KEEP IT REAL CHAD......LET THE FAKERS BITCH AND COMPLAIN.....AKA PLAYERHATERS

Mark:
I have read a lot about whose fault it is, but I really think the most important one was left out. I was at the game, and I could almost feel it. Look at the first two "drives". I won't bore you with data, but they included 4 running plays for 12 yards, 3 short passes for 7 yards, 1 long pass incomplete, and 1 sack plus 2 punts. The game plan was designed to be safe, conservative. It served to decrease the level of team confidence, and the Bengals played scared the whole first half. The second half was depressing for all of us, and they played more out of desperation. Defense...tried hard-pathetic! Really do need an offensive coordinator and one on defense too. Otherwise Marvin has 1, maybe 2 years left.

Mark,
I hate to complain...but it seems as if the Bengals have many more injured players than any other NFL team this year. What is up with that? Is it bad luck or bad conditioning? I'm getting sick of all the negative problems associated with this team every year...It must stop or we will end up with the first draft pic. :(

Chad Johnson is the 3rd best receiver on the team. Yes he is
fast and agile, but Chris Henry
blows him away and Housh is much
more dependable...and both are team
players.
When was the last time anyone saw
Chad make a catch like Randy Moss'
first one Monday night? No comparison.

Does this sound like a BIG DEAL to ANYBODY... Let's see they didn't practice during training camp or play during training camp and WE ALL KNOW THEY HAVEN'T PLAYED in the last 3 games SO WHY TRY AND PRACTICE NOW... ITS NOT LIKE IT WILL HELP ANYWAY. LET'S GO 1 and 15 and get the #1 draft pick and start over again!!!

I don't get the big surprise -- not to mention the vitriol -- that my fellow Bengals fans on these blogs seem so full of.
The Bengals are coming off a season of 8-8. Neither the offense or defense have been improved via the draft, trades, or free agency.
Even without the injuries, this looked to me like a .500 team at best. FORGET PLAYOFFS! Now, with all the injuries, we're probably looking at 5-11, 6-10.
Like it or not, the overall talent just isn't there. Blame Marvin, Mike Brown, or whomever -- but this shouldn't be a big revelation.

injured players have "haunted" this team for years more so than any other NFL team, strength and conditioning..running to the locker room for fluids, cramping up...come on this team from top to bottom is a joke.

3 things the Bengals need to find during the off week.

1.Player leadership
2.Attitude
3.Heart

We'll never win more than 8 games with these coordinators and the special teams coach. Mike Brown please pay some guys that know what they're doing. We were outmatched gameplan wise before we even stepped on the field. At least the defense has an excuse but it makes no sense not to be able to score on offense. Let's make some changes.

I love all the fair weather fans around here. If you don't have positive things to say or at least constructive critizism, shut up. Stay off here and let real fans discus the season. Those of you fair weather fans that have season tickets, please give them up to real fans who don't boo their team. I have season tickets but will upgrade if someone will give theirs up. To those REAL fans out there, it's only going to get better. We'll get healthy and make a playoff push. WHO DEY

Chad is the most over rated player in the game. He is the first to show off for himself, but when he runs the wrong route, he is the first to come complaining to his quarterback. Poise, character, class...I see none. All I see is a player that is in this game for himself.

This team is filled with excuses. In any other town where professional sports are taken serious, Marvin Lewis would be long gone. Just like they said on ESPN MNF, Cinci is a place where 8-8 is acceptable. Pathetic.

Go Cowboys!!

That boot is a ploy to fool the media and KC. Will it work?

Belecheck came about 15 yards out on the field during a timeout Monday night to talk to Chad. It looked like he was chastising Chad about something.

Am I the only one that noticed. The conversation lasted two or three min.

Would like an answer!

Why you lame fans keep bringing up other teams? They have their injury problems as well. Hines Ward didn't play, Laurence Maroney didn't play, Cadi Williams is out I can keep going on and on. Why do you keep calling the coach Melvin? Is he too black to be a Marvin. I wish you wouldn't post any more of that disrespectful crap you been allowing to post. We all aren't Natti bigots. Oh by the way I've been to every game so far and the fans suck just as bad as our team is right now. I love my team good or bad not week to week like some of you fools.

Wow, after reading the comments on here the last couple of days, it's pretty hard to agree with Shayne Graham's characterization (in his blog for the Post) of Bengals fans as "the greatest fans in the NFL". (I know players from every team say that, but from a Bengals player it somehow sounds even more ridiculous.)

To 10/3 4:56PM--

Did you really say that Chris Henry is a "Team Player"? He is such a Team Player that he is suspended for the first half of the season (and a good piece of last season as well).

All of that was for very selfish and stupid behavior that was the total antithesis of the definition of a "Team Player."

Hey ANON 10/03/2007 3:11 PM

That post was so dumb I can't believe I wasted 3 seconds of my life reading it. Calling the Bengals the "Bungles" is so tired and old. Can't you come up with something better than that?
