The Bengals today waived punter Danny Baugher, a first-year player from Arizona. Baugher had signed with Cincinnati as a free agent on Feb. 5.

Another great pick up by upper management.Great work in the offseason Mike Brown.Sorry to see Baugher go so quickly. Can't keep every "next diamond in the ruff", can ya Mike.

Bengal's spokesman comments-

"MB realizes that talent is unearthed by great "in house" regional scouting. The scouting department which may be small to some is very effiicent(For his pocket) for the franchise. That's the cunning strategies that have kept the Bengals atop of the NFL leaderboards for so many years."

18 going on 19 of inept business decisions.

Responding to reddlegg's comments, I hope I'm not the only one who gets tired of negativity for negativity's sake. Aside from the fact that Danny Baugher is an excellent young man and an excellent punter in his own right, his acquisition put the necessary pressure on Kyle Larson to re-up. I don't disagree that the Bengals make their share of business-first decisions, but do us all a favor reddlegg , and save the bile for when its appropriate.

I love when people whine like kids about how many scouts the Bengals have since these are the same people that complain about the guys they drafted being signed elsewhere. Check the states the Bengals are in the top ten in the number of draftees still in the league since 95.
Why hire more people than you need to accomplish a job? If you can do the job with 6 people as well as the other team can do it with 12 then you must be doing something right.
Reddlegg the fact you made a comment to this post shows your just a bitter crybaby

I'm gonna be the third to add on - kick 'em while he's down. Baugher was a good option in case Larson didn't re-sign. With Larson back in the fold, we can let him go. Do you remember signing a kicker last year when Graham was ailing? This is the same thing. As for 18/19, what numbers are you counting, your own personal score? If you have a serious gripe today, it's that we signed a guy whose college coaches and teammates all warned he was a self-centered, angry, bad news head case and, guess what? He's finally gone, after 4 worthless years.

"Hey I'm just happy to have a team."

Mike Brown-
"Business as Usual."

Bob Castellini-
"I'm just trying to bring championship baseball back to Cincinnati & make cincinnatians proud of it's team & it's city."(Now thats a owner that cares)

Wow Redlegg you have continued to prove yourself quite the football expert time and time again. Even if it is not your cunning analysis that catches the eye of the casual fan it is your over all optomism to leaves us waiting for more. Mike Browns inept ability to run a successful franchise has given us the opportunity to witness your verbal shalackings via blog and has set forth the revolution of many other optomistic bengals fans (like yourself) to keep supporting his greed (buying tickets, merch, and even 7 dollar beers) and the complaining about him later. Dude, your in a different city on the other side of the country in a town with many successful teams in it. Switch, for our sake. Go to a Broncos game, buy a 75% discount plummer jersey and never come back. Just stop. It is just a punter for dirt cheap anyways. Who cares. Have you noticed the trend of each of your responses. It gets old. The bengals will be fine and they will go to the playoffs after they have a hell of a draft and Carson Palmer is league MVP. I fully encourage your enthusiasm and i do think that you have passion for the team and the sport. Just curb some of the negativity (and i know you call it like you see it, that is still adorable) but all this over a firggen punter? Jeeze. sorry bout that.

Carson Palmer will be MVP (just sayin)

PS. check for spelling and gramatical errors!

Mike from the AFC West

All the nagging aside. I wonder if we will now be picking a WR in a earlier round. Say 2nd or 3rd round. I feel bad for Henry's family. As a Bengals fan I'm glad that this incident happened before the draft.

Mindriot --

I've been a Bengals fan for more than 30 years. I refuse to believe that nonsense about how the Bengals severely limited, super-cheap scouting staff and front office were doing the job as well as any in the NFL.

In the midst of the 17 years of futility for the Bengals that ensued with the onset of free agency (no coincidence) -- I saw Mike Brown quoted repeatedly as saying that the Bengals had just as much information about players as any team in the NFL.

All I could think in response was: "Well, then you must be a bunch of idiots, because you've stunk like rotten fish for years and years."

In sum, I think the Bengals problems since 1991 have been a combination of multiple factors, but it seems absurd to suggest that their smaller, cheaper infrastructure is not one of them.

P.S. I agree that I can't understand why Redlegg complains about even the most minor personnel moves. Silly.

Why has the media given him a free pass ?????(He should have been fired long ago)(he giggles after losses) OUT OF TOUCH-

I like bustin MB's ____.He has bambozzled Cincinnati to long. It's time to talk the talk & walk the walk.If he's going crap on me & my hometown, then he is going to get crapped on by me.I could care less what anyone on here says about me.I'm unfazed & will keep "Calling it like I see it"as adorable as that sounds to a bunch of a apolgist's that take it in the(Fill in the blank)!!!!

No more losing mentality. It starts up top & sinks all the way to the bottom.

Look everyone,I'm not the only one who feel this way,I'm just the only one that voices my displeasure about him on a regular..MB is a joke of an owner, bottomline!!!!!

To Mike in the AFC west(Or should I say Dr.Phil), I'm from Cincinnati & that is the only city I root for.Anything else is just secondary.Dude, your a idealist,I'm a realist. There are only results to base fact's off.Look at the numbers & do your homework, buddy. Results speak volumes. It's a newspaper blog,if you can't handle the truth(& my opinion),don't read my post.

I agree with you guys though, this was minimal in the big picture & I went on a rant.I'm just frustrated with some of the offseason moves & still feel like this team has a long way to go.CP his in his prime & there needs to be more urgency to put together a winning team.

The window for success closes fast

frank robinson's ghost, three years ago I would have agreed with your comments, but now I'm not so sure. I honestly think MB is no more than a figure head now just like George steinbrenner was last year. His children run the team now and that is why things are changing.
I think that they have always been good at finding talent they just didn't have the coaching to develop it until now. The reason was that MB only hired in house coaches that were not qualified, but when the kids took over a few years ago that all changed when Marvin came walking in.

Things changed, Mindriot25?

What has changed, A team that went from horrible to mediocre. 8-8,8-8(These were the rebuilding years,so 8-8 is acceptable),11-5(Very weak schedule that season, team hits it peak, & then explodes from immaturity & a cheap hit to the stud QB )8-8(A very hard schedule, but could of been 10-6 or 11-5.Couldn't finish on offense or defense), & 7-9(An average schedule, could of been 9-7,10-6-or 11-5,couldn't finish on offense & Defense)

There a pattern there,do you see it.

I like Coach Lewis & have faith in him to do his JOB,but the leadership starts from up top.Without the Head Honcho's signature on any check,it does not matter if it's Katie,Troy,or Lewis decision;Because it comes back to one man & man only. The club President. He signs the checks for everyone, all the way down to the water boy.

Get more defensive studs, whatever & wherever.Draft them, trade for them, sign them off the FA wire,Find them on practice squad's, coach them, & get results. Then you will see a team that has a chance to compete.

Till then, everything people saying about playoffs,is strictly a pipe dream.

Maybe so.

I definitely agree with your comments about the coaching pre-Lewis era. I think that applies as well to the strength and conditioning coaches, etc. (They were the first guys Marvin fired.)

The problem with the drafts since Marvin came is that injuries and character issues have made many of the important picks busts (so far). They do seem to have picked a couple of nice ones last year though. I think the young secondary will develop well.

The team's current reliance on Brooks and Thurman at LB reminds me a bit of how the Reds are counting on Cueto and Volquez this year. They might break out, but you don't want to have to build around unproven guys at a core position.

What has changed is that in the past five seasons, the Bengals have been in the playoff hunt every season going into the last few weeks, with the exception of '07. What else has changed???? No longer are games basically over with in the first half. And as far as '05 being a playoff team due to a very weak schedule, better go back and check your facts.....Bengals opponents in '05 had a winning pct of .523. That put them T10th in the NFL for strength of schedule. The Dolphins had the strongest .547 and went 9-7. The only '05 playoff team that had a stronger schedule than Cincy was New England .539.

Nice try tho!!
