Chad to TV: I'll be there

Disgruntled Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson told EPSN on Wednesday night that he plans to show up for the mandatory full-squad minicamp in mid-June.

Johnson told ESPN's Brian Kenny he will not sit out the 2008 season. Johnson has refused to speak to the Cincinnati-based media since mid-October.

Johnson reacted strongly to comments made Tuesday by Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis at the NFL annual meeting in Palm Beach, Fla. Lewis said the Bengals are "prepared to move on" if the all-star wide receiver decides to sit out the 2008 season.

But, "If (Johnson) shows and does things, and does (them) the right way, I'm willing to take the bullets for him again and allow him to come back the right way," Lewis said.

Johnson didn't like Lewis' statement.

"Don't take any bullets for me. Don't take one bullet," Johnson said in the ESPN interview. "Do I get in trouble? Do I do anything wrong off the field? Do I? What bullets? I'm not a player that comes with bullets. I'm no threat. I'm not a problem. OK, I celebrate. Whoop-de-do. You know what you get when I touch the field every Sunday."

Johnson said he will show up for the mandatory mid-June minicamp.

"My plans are to show up and embarrass everybody that tries to cover me," Johnson said. "If they're satisfied with what we have, and think that's gonna get us where we need to go, then so be it."

did anyone see this interview? i did and chad was acting really really weird. the guy doing the interview (some espn guy dont remember who) kept trying to end the interview and chad just kept saying "thats it?" and the host kept trying to get chad to talk more but he wouldn't. very strange, i think chad might have lost his mind.

With all that is going on with CJ and Henry, once again, getting into trouble, the Bengals better seriously be looking for a veteran receiver for the #3 spot. It's time to cut ties with Henry.

Additionally in that interview, espn asked chad for his thoughts on the damage he has done to his reputation with fans and others who have had "affection" for him. Chad basically said he doesn't care anymore what people think about him, whether the fans or anyone else cares for him, and that it is all about him from now on.

Chad has no question completely lost touch with reality. I have always been a fan of chad's, but clearly something in him snapped and he is done. Time to make the guy sit out the year or get rid of him. He will never be there mentally again.

Let's wait and see what CJ actually does and says as we get closer to the season and in camp.

What he says from January - May doesn't really matter much.

I agree mostly except for the fact that its always been about Chad, not all of a sudden. He's just a cancer. Get rid of him. Trade him for a defensive game changer. i AM SICK OF CHAD!!

Wow. He claims to only desire winning, yet cannot realize that it takes the team acting in unison to win. In the interview, Chad makes it painfully obvious that he only cares about himself. If you haven't listened to it yet, just keep track of how many times he refers to himself throughout the interview. He is running out of ammo to throw at the Bengals and all he is doing is isolating himself from the fans. I have gained respect for Marvin Lewis throughout this whole ordeal however. Everything he has said about the situation is correct and I feel this could be a blessing in disguise as we realize that we need to get back to running the ball effectively.

This interview really confused me, as I'm sure it did many others. Chad has been saying for months, "I want out, I don't want to be here." Now all of the sudden he's saying, "Eh, I guess I have to play. I'll try." I think he's grappling with some deeper issues here. There are probably a lot of outside influences that are messing with his head right now. We know Drew Rosenhaus isn't the most team-oriented agent out there, and Chad does have a close friendship with "Mr. Me First" TO, so maybe Chad is really trying to wrestle with the whole issue of being on a team and honoring a contract, versus gettin' as much money as he can.

This is just speculation, but I think Chad is dealing with more inside himself than most of us can see, and we're only getting little glimpses of it. He may not have snapped yet, but he could be close.

I was hoping Chad would avoid the hype, lead with honor, his charismatic style, and help the team move forward. Can't you learn anything and see the bigger picture?! Bengals are imploding, casualty of ego, hope things move in a forward direction. Chad, we will miss you, wish you could've made positive impact and stunning statements the right way. Henry, adios negative virus inflicting attitudes/egos!

I asked this in a previous post but didn't get an answer. What is the salary cap hit if Chad gets traded after June 1? Is it spread across 2008 and 2009?

Chad is a pro bowl wr and he's not a cancer to the team. He's not the reason why we lost it's the defense. Chad put fear into defenses given TJ the opportunity to go one on one all the time..
