BREAKING NEWS: Bengals waive Henry

The Bengals just moments ago said they have waived wide receiver Chris Henry.

Bengals president Mike Brown issued the following statement:

"Chris Henry has forfeited his opportunity to pursue a career with the Bengals. His conduct can no longer be tolerated.

"The Bengals tried for an extended period of time to support Chris and his potentially bright career. We had hoped to guide him toward an appropriate standard of personal responsibility that this community would support and that would allow him to play in the NFL. We acknowledge those fans who had concerns about Chris; at the same time we tried to help a young man.

"But those efforts end today, as we move on with what is best for our team."

wow I am stunned because in the last 12 hours it looked as if only Chad was the offseason worry now this! I am happy we are done putting up with the garbage but at the same time you hate to see that talent gone and wasted.

Bengals need to finish cleaning house by trading Chad. Addition/Improvment by subtraction is needed.

The Poster who said get rid of TJ is nuts. TJ is one of top 5 receivers in league and a good citizen. He'll catch the ball over the middle too, not like alligator arms Chad.

See post for Henry in Trouble. The mid round picks (3rd - 5th) just changed a whole lot.

Another tragic story, same ending, nothing ever changes!!!

I have not lived in Cinti for 10 years but love and follow the Bengals every year. It gets harder every year to even admit to being a fan. Getting rid of Henry is a step in the right direction. He has humiliated the entire organization and let's not stop there it is time to put some entigrity back into the game by cleaning out the trash.

good riddance, Smokey McPot. What do all those folks have to say now about how "expired tags" was no big deal???? Maybe the Bengals could continue to cut game checks for this joker and endorse them over to Chad, in effect giving him what he really wants, which is a new contract/more money.....

Like I said . . . What a shame, but it had to be done.

I imagine this might affect the draft plans -- a receiver or two in the later rounds?

I really hate how our players can't just shut up and play. They are just a bunch of whiny punk b*&^$%@. I wish we had Tory Holt and Isaac Bruce. They are receivers with class. Lets face it, we drafted 2 punks more concerned with the size of their d&*^ than playing football.

i like this move and i like the stand they are taking with chad...if the bengals ever want to be a winning franchise(and sometime i wonder if they really do) they need to take the approach they are taking...no short cuts, no players with questionable background and no catering to superstar cry babies! period!

To hell with talent--talent can be found. This is about a young person's life. But whether it's the normal workplace or sports, you reach a point where you can't help someone who can't help himself.

Had these incidents occurred in the workplace this young man would have been fired long ago. Obviously, Henry can't be helped.

I'm not even a Bengals fan but I love this move. It's about time teams start letting go of these continous headaches. Now the next step is to get ALL teams to say enough is enough! Character has to count for something at some point! Congrats Bengal fans, your team is now better off than yesterday!

I said it on the blog about the traffic ticket & on another blog before that about the WR's.

CH was always a big IF.Now he's a big OUT OF WORK idiot that may go to jail & doesn't take advice or listen to those trying to mentor him.Bad leadership from the top.Take this guy under your wing MB & Co. ,instead he sees role models like Chad that are better than others to help.IT's always about Chad,it's always about MB, & it's never about the fans.

Jack in St.Louis-Your radio people nailed it.What's wrong with the bengals.I gotta an idea.MB!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chad in his interview on ESPN was too funny, the guy that was interviewing him was getting very annoyed, demanding a straight answer from chad. Finally all Chad could say was"Is that it." sounding like a confused student in sex ed. class. The guy from sportcenter was like "Yea,You got something else you wanna say,"rudely.

This is just another example of how bad this franchise is ran.Inept from the top to the bottom.

Chad does seem to agree with some us fans, that enough has not been done to take this team to the next level. So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how bad it may get, especially now that CH is gone too.

THEY WILL NOT TRADE CHAD! THE CAP HIT IS TOO LARGE! When will people get that through their heads? IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

About time! He was exhausting my patience with his actions, as other spoiled athletes. Marvin is a great coach, but has been playing "big brother" and needs to play "big father" and clean house/revitalize if he doesn't want to perpetuate the cycle of former coaches (Shula Jr., LeBeau,...). I agree, what a waste of talent and ability. Hope he shapes up, isn't going to be here! Finally took a bold step, guess 5X's the charm. Now we have a legend acting like "Dillon and Pickins Jr.", geesh. That attitdue is like a virus. Get people in here like TJ, Palmer (with higher energy - amp him up, get some more gusto!/still great guy), and Anderson), and move forward! Honor, integrity, ability, persistence, change, grow, learn, attitude = victory!

Rock on, Who Dey!

Looking to the draft what do they need? This team is a mess. They need a center, wide receiver, Offensive tackle, Defensive line. What else am I missing? I get the sinking suspicion we are in for one of those 6-10 type seasons.

Nick who posted in real big font @
1:26p:

You shouldn't post so boldly when your wrong on a subject.

First off, it has nothing to do with the cap hit! We are going to pay the money no matter what, so its not like we can save money one way or the other.

Secondly, THE BENGALS WOULD TRADE CHAD JOHNSON IN A SECOND, if they could get anything for him. NO ONE WANTS TO GIVE ANYTHING FOR CJ. Chad is a really good WR, guess what, so are a lot of other guys. Chad is 30 with a big contract (not huge but big), and he isn't willing to redo it for less money or time. That makes him very unattractive. The best any team is willing to do is a 3rd round pick.

Why would any team want him at that value in his 30's when they can draft one for a lot less? THEY DON'T, that is why the Bengals are stuck with him. The Bengals have told Rosenhaus to explore deals (but to be real quiet about it), and he did with no one interested for what Cincy wants. WHEN HAVE YOU EVER KNOWN ROSENHAUS TO NOT COMMENT ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS?

Its not going to happen, that part you are right on, but no where close to the reasons you stated. CHAD JOHNSON HAS NO VALUE OUTSIDE OF CINCY, hard to believe I know, but that is the fact.

Here are my thoughts Chris Henry, goodbye. Odell Thurman, tootles too! -Now Chad I hear you don't think you need to care what fans think, but little boy this is were you are wrong, its my hard earned 70.00 plus dollars I spend for your Bengals jersey with your name on it for my son that as a player thinks the sun sets and rises in you and I supported your your antics on the field as fun. your new antics show your #1 in your mind and the h with the true people that pay your salary which most true fans with common sense would also say in joy your time off shut up and when your suppose to be here, be here shut up and play like you can but keep your un-needed comments to yourself!

Mark, time to eat some humble pie. I got on you for reporting the "expired tags" post. I'm sorry. I'm also sorry for the Bengals. Now they most likely will have to draft a WR. I'm sorry for Chris Henry's family. I'm also sorry to see Chris Henry, or any other human being, be such an idiot! Years from now, he's gonna look back.....

I'm one of few who openly support Chris Henry. I'm so tired of people making him out to be a bad guy because everyone listens to the news and only gets half the story before they rush to judgement. Even the judge went overboard because of his past record, most of his charges have been misdemeanors. Most people who give their opinion have never played football in their lives and think they know everything. So many people talk down on him even when a team that looks so good on paper can't do crap on the field. Mike Brown should be boycotted for the crap he's given us in the last 20 years. I see how some players with so much potential don't want to play for a sorry team. You have 2 cry babies for receivers that play more than him when he's just as good as them and he only plays 30% of the time. How come it's not all over the news that the so called victim called Henry the N word? Football or no football, I would have kicked his butt too. The victim called himself a "Bengals fan", I would never associate myself with this team cause you all act like he just walked up and punched the guy. When someone defends themself they aren't wrong. I hope Henry goes somewhere like Dallas where he would be accepted for his skills and play all the time instead of only when losing, especially after hearing most of his "teammates" talk bad about him. I'm glad he's not on this team anymore, he deserves better than playing behind crybabies and being on a consistent losing team. It might be a sad day for some but I'm happy he doesn't have to be around all this BS. Hopefully your loss will be someone else's gain, such as Dallas, just like TANK and hopefully Pacman. Check your history; everytime somebody leaves the Bengals they have more success. Pay attention Chad crybaby Johnson. I would only root for the Bengals if Mide Brown and family sold the team. I do live in Cincinnati, but am a #1 Cowboys fan and a #1 Chris Henry fan.
