P Larson, LB Jones re-sign

The Bengals today signed punter Kyle Larson to a five-year contract and linebacker Dhani Jones to a three-year deal.

Larson has been the Bengals starting punter for four seasons, and has averaged 42.8 yards a punt during his career.

"I set goals at the start of every season, and I want to just keep getting better every year," Larson said in a statement. "Cincinnati has been so good to me and my wife, I feel very fortunate to be staying here and getting the chance to keep playing in front of our fans."

Agent Rob Roche said Larson "is very happy deal. He's had a great four years with the Bengals. He's looking forward to another great five."

Jones started playing for the Bengals in 2007, making nine starts at outside linebacker. He ranked second in the team in tackles (111), and tied for the team lead in forced fumbles (two).

"Dhani did a good job, on and off the field, as a leader," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. "He had been a starting player for a long time in the NFL, but he was willing to come in and accept whatever role was given to him. He had a quick ‘training camp’ for a few games, and soon he was one of our core players."

I'm not sure why Dhani didn't become a more notable LB. He's a smart, dependable leader with no off the field problems. Solid signing. Larson is a good punter also. At least MB is retaining some of the good talent in this ballclub.

Now.. let's get Robertson signed! To all the naysayers regarding Robertson. He does not belong in a 3-4 thus is lack of performance. I think he'd make a great fit with our D-line.. Get it done MB!

It's too little...too late! The owner is terrible, the team is a joke, and the fans are pathetic. The Bengals have the worst fair weather fans in professional sports! And they are getting what they deserve!

I am satisfied with what the Bengals have done in free agency, thus far. Although a couple of deals fell through, they have demonstrated a willingness to address their primary weakness: the defense. I think the Odom signing will offset the loss of J. Smith. I am also excited about the prospect of having the Thurminator and Ahmad Brooks on the field at the same time. You throw in a prospect on defense with the 9th overall pick in the draft and we suddenly don't look so shabby any more. Although it’s only March, I am definitely looking forward to the Fall. GO BENGALS!

Expect another 7 win season this year.

The team DESPERATELY needs pass-rushing DLs and run-blocking OL. Our LBs and RBs are in disarray. And the Bengals let all the big help in Free Agency slip right past them.

Haynesworth is well-worth two first round picks (esp. given Cincy's hit-or-miss drafts).

It's the 1990s all over again. The stingy Bengals won't do what it takes to build a winner. Ticket sellouts is the ENTIRE goal of this franchise. Since that's met (thanks to Palmer, CJ, and TJ), there's no urgency to actually WIN.

2005 looks more and more like a fluke...

Hey ct begal fan. Robertson played in the 4-3 already when Herm edwards coached the team! His agent and him are making excucess for him not doing anything in the 3-4 he didn't do anything in 4-3 either. was being called a bust in NY befor Manngini got there, he is a waste of money unless he signs 4-5mill

Mark, do you have any details on the contracts signed by Odom, Jones or Larson (signing bonus, roster/workout bonus, etc)?

Robertson had opportunities in a 4-3 and 3-4, and did nothing in either. Haynesworth was a total bust until his contract year, and is a constant distraction for his team. And people want to give Robertson $20 million, and give up two firsts for Haynesworth? I'm going to guess you two are members of the Brown family.

Bungles 5 - 11 season coming. We should be able to beat Baltimore once, possibly cleveland.

Good signings so far and 1 decent free agent to boost the D-line. This has been a better free agency period for the Bengals than last year, but we need more!

Dan

Just keep your mouth shut (fingers off the board?) and listen. That harsh pain that you feel when you are thinking and talking... Its stupidity. Unfortunelty it is contagious. (notice, anon 8:23 caught a bad case of it before you even showed up) The Bengals are going to be just fine with the draft picks and i swear i havent heard many things as dumb as trading 2 first round picks for someone who did well on a contract year and has always had locker room issues. (it isnt hard to find that he has been in fights [not competetive] with other teammates and that they generally dont like him and his attitude or ethic)

I know that you are most likely upset that we signed jones and didnt spend millions and millions on someone else. To an extent that is understandable. He is a solid linebacker for a guy that did as well as he did on his first week and then on out. I think it is a great signing and that he will be of great value to this franchise. Will he win us any extra games? maybe not. is there anybody else left out there for us to depend on in free agency that you would consider better and more dependable? other than landon i would like to know?

Oh yeah, what happened to that other punter? You dont want me to get started on this again...

I think free agency has been good so far; If Rogers was willing to extend his 1M bonus for one more year for another team, that's his issue. I prefer players that WANT to be here.

I don't think it's going to be a 7-9 or 5-11 season that you all bengals pesimistic fans are talking about. We need to draft a DT, and OT and we would need Odell and Brooks in the field. IF IF IF all that happens, we have a good team.

However, with our new DC and LBC this year, I don't think we are going to stink anyways.

mark, any insight on the bengals's draft board at DL? I like Ellis or Dorsey if they fall to 9, but what about later rounds? I think Laws from ND will be a steal for someone in the 3rd (I am a homer though). He was faster and measured taller than Ellis in the combine and was a lonely bright spot on an Irish team that had a lot of other problems.

Bengals interested in him or any one else out there who could possibly beef up the DL?

Both are good solid singings. MB is loyal to a fault and I bet he would be a great guy to work for. This gets in the way sometimes and it shows in the way he sticks with coaches and players too long. But these two and Odom were good solid signings. The other two you have to realize the Lions and Jets were trying to get rid of them, so they can't be all that great. Look at the positives forget the negatives.

Just A point Rogers and Robertson were not free agents. Their teams were trying to load them off on somebody else. Rogers would have been an ok pickup but Robertson, almost 20 million in two years, no way. The money could be better spend elsewhere. Larson and Jones are two good solid players, glad to see both stay.

I don't understand all the whining...yes Rogers went to the clowns, but if he came here all we would here from the media is the Bengals are getting another bad character guy (arrested for assault). Do we really need an overweight bad character guy who only plays half the time because he is out of shape? Robertson may be a good fit, who knows.. must not be good in NY if the crappy Jets want to get rid of him. With all the injuries last year to the RB's, OT's, LB's and the Chris Henry suspension we are lucky we even won 7 games. As long as we get past 85 wanting all the attention and have a good draft we should have a decent year. Alot of if's but I think we are used to that by now.

Rip me all you want because I'm going to talk about a punter, but re-signing Larson is a terrible move. Look up his stats-they're in the lower part of the league in most, of not all, categories.

Bad deal IMO

WE HAVE WAY TO MANY COMMENTS THAT USE HARSH WORDS TO DOWN GRADE A PLAYER OR THE OWNERS. I LIVE AN DIE A BENGAL AS YOU, BUT CHOOSE YOUR WORDS. YOU CAN BE MEAN SPIRITE OR WHAT BUT YOU CAN FINE MORE SELECTIVE WORDS THEN TURD ECT..

WE WILL RUN A 4-3 AND USE VARIATIONS OF THE 3-4 BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT ZIMMER IS. WE WILL TAKE AT NO. 9 A DEF. TACKLE/END AND WE WILL PROBABLY MOVE UP FOR DORSEY/GHOSTON/ELLIS UNLESS ELLIS SLIPS, OUR PARTNER WILL BE EITHER ALANTA OR KANSAS CITY. YOU CAN TAKE THIS TO THE BANK
