Bengals continue talking to Landon

Andy Simms, the agent for Bengals free agent Landon Johnson, said he talked to the Bengals today and that the conversation "didn't do anything to dissuade us to continue talking."

In other words, lines of communication are open.

The Bengals, though team public relations director Jack Brennan, had nothing to report today.

Tennessee free agent defensive end Antwan Odom and street free agent Marlon McCree, most recently a starter at safety for the Chargers, were scheduled to visit Cincinnati today.

The Bengals are expected to announce the signing of linebacker Dhani Jones on Monday. His three-year deal is believed to be for an average of about $1.7 million a year.

After watching Cleveland become a better team than the Bengals and then outsmart and outspend them in the offseason by pilfering Shaun Rogers and signing Donte Stallworth, it becomes painfully clear that the Bengals are the most stupefyingly-inept franchise in sports. To get played by your biggest rival after losing Justin Smith and Madeiu Williams, shows that Marvin and Mike and the Blackburns don't have a clue. If these hacks can't put a team together around Carson Palmer, then they never will. The Bengals are too cheap and too stupid to deserve our support. I'm done with'em. Take this team and move'm to Oklahoma City or someother wannabe town desperate enough to want'em. They've abused Cincinnati fans long enough.

They better sign Odom... i am sick and tired of this crap... one minute 3-4 defense, then 4-3, this organization is a joke.. they haven't won in years with the crap they have, and they are so excited they re-sign these guys... ENOUGH!!!! they just screwed up the season by somehow blowing the rogers deal... getting him would have really helped the draft by grabbing Keith Rivers and going with a 3-4 defense...

The Bengals game plan must be to sit, listen and watch while other teams improve. I wonder what these scheduled meetings are like, something along the lines of "Hey, welcome to Cincinnati, we've only had 1 winning season in the past 15 years.....( quiet moment )....aaaand that's pretty much it.". If I was a free agent, I wouldn't want to sign here either.

Either Jack Brennan has the worst job in the entire world, or he is the worst PR person in the entire world. No other possible answer makes any sense to me.

I would have to say that unless the Bengals trade up to take Chris Long in the draft, this off-season is stacking up to be the most disappointing one under Marvin. Any one agree???

How can they let this one go? Best tackler on the team, total workhorse, never COMPLAINS! And with the inconsistencies of Brooks (who has never really proven himself on this level) and Thurman (out for two years)you would think this coaching staff would kill to have Landon back. I'm beginning to think, this coaching staff is inadequate when dealing with personal issues.

Nice worthless post - reporting that there is nothing to report. Did someone strike a nerve on the last blog posting?

if i was Carson, Chad or TJ i ask to be traded as Mike Brown will NEVER want to win and this is just a joke of a scam business that Mike Brown does..And Landon, you should go to a team that wants to win,, Mike Brown DOOESNT!! Cleveland is a newer expansion Franchise and is light years ahead of this garbage this city has had to deal with Mike Brown. He only cares about 8-8 and sellouts.. I PRAY the REDS do so well the Bengal fans walk away and spend their money on Reds tickets and force Mike to sell or leave.. i would rather we had a expansion team with a ownership that has a goal of winning. Not a goal to get rich by scamming their fans like the Brown family has since Paul Brown died!!

i wish you were not a puppet of this organization and slammed them for being the worst ownership in NFL history!!!

Mike Brown & Company are hack's & tool's.Please sell this team to owners that know how to run a franchise with pride.

sellthebengals2markcuban.com(Atleast this guy knows how & cares about winning & guess what his players love him,How many jump out there say how much they love Mike Brown,0!!!!!!)

Ocho cinco being asked to be traded is starting to make more sense to me,It's the ownership & the way they run this team into the ground, that's what his tiff is all about. Can you blame him for wanting to leave. Why don't you try to work for an idiot, see how far that get's you

You guys are way too negative on recent events. First, our D stunk. Justin is an OK player but he had 2 sacks. Medeui was OK but wasn't exactly a tackler. Did you see the D's tackling? Horriffic. As far as i am concearned no one but Geathers is not replaceable. Granted, the Rogers thing hurt but lets not get carried away and wish our team to Oklahoma City. You guys are a bunch of drama queens.

I find it hilarious that according to ESPN...the bengals have agreed in principle to deal a 4th and 5th rounder to the jets for dwayne robertson, pending a physical and renegotiation of his contract, but neither bengals.com or this blog has mentioned it.....

think maybe they are afraid of the backlash that came with the rogers deal???

The Browns significantly improved their offense last year thru the draft. They upgraded their defense this year thru free agency. What have the Bengals done over the past 2 years? The Bengals don't have the talent to win on the field and they definitly don't have the talent in the personell department.

Someone in the Bengals organization should lose their job over the Shaun Rogers mess. That is unacceptable and a clear sign the Bengals need help in their personel department.

First off, Shaun Rogers is overrated and all of th fans are freaking out because the Bengals didn't get him.
Look at this way, he isn't on the team because the Bengals organization is inept and this may be a blessing in disguise. He is not as good as everyone thinks he is, so let it go.
What the Bengals should be doing is resinging Landon. Every time he got hurt, he walked off the field and came back on the very next play. The guys is not flashy and he is an above average lb. Last time I looked, this team has Dhani Jones, Odell Thurman, Ahmad Brooks and David Pollack as linebackers. Oh yeah, and two or three other LB's on the roster and nobody knows who they are. Just sign Landon, it is really that simple.
This has to be the angriest I have seen Cincinnati fans in a long time. I wonder if Mike even cares a little?

I think everyone needs to relax. Two years ago everyone was talking about how the Pats were brilliant for waiting out the big money and signing value veteran free agents. Last year, the Giants were routinely bashed for not getting veterans. I am sorta glad Shaun Rogers isn't on the team. I'll miss Madieu, but not at that number. I don't think the Bengals will miss Justin Smith that much. I hope that they wait for a while and sign guys that will fit the system. Eugene Wilson would be a good pickup for Madieu Williams, for example.

Why didnt we take a chance on kris jenkins or marcous stroud. there is no good free agents left and there talking to robertson from the jets but he has been a bust

I didnt think that we would actually go for a big name... then we tride at rogers... then it didnt work out... i would have hoped that since that didnt work they would still try to improve. (hey at least they tried, right!?!?) We just lost two of our better players and leaders and we are about to lose our third(i thought we resigned our drafted players)
all of this would have been understandable if we were actually going to make an attempt to improve through replacing those players because we were going to switch our defense to a 3-4. now we are talking to 4-3 guys again. to give them the benefit of the doubt odom and marlon arent half bad. this again is all becoming confusing again. (yet somehow i feel at home)

Mike from the 90's
(Mark, do you have opinions? I once defended you but your stories are just so bland from the lack of opinion. If i am only going to get plane old fact i will go to the bengals site)

Hey: Curnutte does give his opinion, but it's his job to report the facts or what's happening in some stories and give opinion pieces in the other. I went to school with Mark and he's a helluva newspaper person. Trust me, if this blog was some talk radio yahoo's blog, you wouldn't get all this info.

Now, there are is a large number of good players available in free agency. Let's not go all whack because the Bengals lost some free agents. Let's just see where the dust settles before the draft. I count five or so DTs still available that would upgrade us, a few DEs, four safeties, six or more linebackers, a few TEs, and even some nickel and dime DBs (Ty Law, anyone?). Let's all take a breath.

anon 9:35 AM, please, don't try to seriously compare the Patriots and Giants front offices to that of the Bengals. It would be different if we drafted well, but we don't do that either, so Marvin looks like the little Dutch boy trying to plug holes in the dike. Everytime he gets one plugged, another one opens right up and he has to move on, leaving another hole unplugged still.
