Rogers deal off?

The Bengals' trade this afternoon with the Lions for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, confirmed by Rogers' agent, now appears to be falling apart.

Neither the Bengals nor the Lions would confirm the trade, though the Lions told the Detroit News before 4 p.m. that it was official.

Bengals public relations director Jack Brennan emphasized in a call to The Enquirer that widespread reporting of the trade did not come from the Bengals.

The issues appear to be differences on compensation -- initial information was the Bengals would give the Lions third- and fifth-round picks in April's draft -- and knowledge of an incident involving Rogers and a dancer at a strip club last year.

What a shock. The Bengals hose the fans again. Its going to be another long losing season. Goind for 17 out of 18 non playoff years. Great work Mikey. Keep lining those pockets.

Great job who ever botched this deal. Hopefully this is the straw that breaks the camels back and people finally stop going to bengals games again.

I feel like freakin Charlie Brown. Here I thought I was finally going to be able to kick the ball, and Lucy (Mike Brown) yanke it away at the last second. I'll be honest this really bums me out, I thought we FINALLY had a true stud DT that would make a lot of the other players on Defense better. The Bengal's owe us a thorough explanation on this one.

And the worlds worst run franchise continues to disappoint their fans.

I guess when you have the 2 worst teams in football trying to make a deal then this is what you get. Mike Brown should step down. He is the worst owner/GM ever. Fans should revolt.

We have all been bungled again.

This team is pathetic. They continue to let the fans down. They finally get a good defensive player and now he is gone before he gets here. Pathetic!

Hey Mark, if this deal falls through, do you see the Bengals making a similar offer to JAX to pick up Stroud? I've read reports that they are allowing him to seek a trade

The Bengals are the worst run organization in the world. They should shut down all operations and fold. Mike Brown is the worst GM in the world. Don't blame Marvin he has nothing to work with. All fans should stay away.

...And the Bengals have done it. They have lost one of their "Biggest Acquisitions In Team History!"

at 2/29/2008 9:32 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not shocking at all. The Bengals are so poorly run we should never expect them to get any good players. Another non playoff year for the NFL's worst franchise.

I bet that as the deal came down, the Bengals found out about the strip club incident and knew they would never get rid of the criminal stigma which they had a couple years ago.

In reality, Rogers was 30 pounds overweight last year and dominant when he felt like it. I'd rather have Odom.

To add to the misery our arch rivals the Cleveland Clowns now are in talks with the Lions about a trade for Rodgers per the Detroit Free Press. Here's the link http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080229/SPORTS01/80229042

When will the misery end???????????

Rogers is a Brown and as usual the Bungles mess up. Fans should just stay away and the City should give the stadium to the Bearcats.

For all you too quick to blame the Bengals... this was just posted on ProFootballTalk.com... THE LEAGUE (NOT THE BENGALS) REJECTED THE TRADE... No reason given:

ROGERS TO BROWNS A DONE DEAL

According to Hondo Carpenter of SpartanNation.com, who as we understand it is very well plugged in as to the goings on in Motown, the Lions have finalized a trade of defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to the Browns.

In return, the Lions reportedly will get cornerback Leigh Bodden and a third-round draft choice.

Carpenter says that the league office rejected a trade that would have sent Rogers to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.

The league office rejected the Rogers trade and now he's a Brown? What kind of $#%?! Twilight Zone bunk is going on here?

get a grip people...
if the lions are holding the bengals "hostage" for a better trade than they had already agreed to, DON'T pay the ransom. if the deal is halted because of S.R.'s tangle with a stripper, again kill the deal. these are the same people that jumped all over the bengals when they had off field problems before. want that again? basing one's opinions on "sources" is dangerous too. Mike Brown is a class act. He could have taken the bengals to alot of different places, but his loyalty was to cincy. too bad these "fans" don't realize that. maybe instead of crying prematurely, true fans should give the bengals the benefit of the doubt...

does anyone know how the league denies a trade?

So, the done deal with Warren Sapp...I mean Shaun Rogers is off? Oh well, he's overweight and lazy anyway. If they wanted to get rid of a 3rd & 5th they should have gone after Jenkins OR I hear Jacksonville is trying to unload Marcus Stroud. If he is healthy, he's more of a stud than Rogers, and I'll take Jacksville's leftovers before the Lowly Lions anyday..

The trade was never sent to the NFL so it wasn't disallowed. As usual the Bengals get used. Support the Bearcats forget the Bengals.

Yeah, the Bengals are pathetic. We sit back and screw up deals, meanwhile the Browns sign every player away from us and now they are in line to get Rogers as well. They'll probably go after Landon Johnson.

Can we make some moves to improve? Probably not.

Wow, we sit back and screw up deals and let players get away, and meanwhile Cleveland takes every player away from us. They are going to trade for Rogers now too. I bet they go after Landon Johnson as well (not that I care about that one).

Can the Bengals please make a move to improve the team? Doubt it.

Why would the NFL "deny" a trade?

This is more of the Bengals being the Bengals. What an effing joke.

I do believe the Brown family is an act, but I wouldn't term it as a class act. They didn't do their homework, so they are as much to blame, and you just don't do this to your fan base. I know the the PR department said they didn't leak a thing; however, they allow a story on their OFICIAL home page (bengals.com)!

Mark, reports through this blunder it is clear the Bengals are going in a different direction. The Bengals defense can only go in one direction and that is UP!

Marvin and company, run a 3-4, 4-3, a mixture of both, I could careless. What I would like to see is you stop your opponent! Shaun Rogers would have been a nice start. Instead of him being a force on your defense, you now have to find a way to block the guy twice a year. I guess it's a good thing you put the tag on Andrews, he will now have his hands full.

This was good day gone bad and seems to be very Bengal like. I don't believe for one minute the NFL denied the deal. Makes no sense they can turn around and trade him to the Browns.

The Bengals front office is a bunch of clowns. How is the deal nixed b/c of a salary cap issue? Aren't we $30M under the cap? I'm sure we'll get some third tier free agent to replace him. When will it ever end?

and i just sent in a check for 1.400 bucks

Classic Bengals no this team doesnt need a GM not when we got Mikey boy and Katie around. The only difference between this team and the ones of Shula,Coslett, and LeBeau is Carson with him they at least stand a little chance. If you look hard enough you can start to see Marvins puppet strings that Mikey holding.

Anon 10:03 PM,

Knowing what we know now, who cares if Brown would've moved the team? At least then we wouldn't have been held hostage and fleeced. Not to mention having my heart ripped out year after year. What, you part of the family or something?
