No other coaching changes

All of the Bengals' other assistant coaches are under contract, Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said this afternoon.

Only former defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan and ex-linebackers coach Ricky Hunley will be replaced.

Returning on defense are line coach Jay Hayes, defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle, assistant defensive backs coach Louie Cioffi and assistant linebackers/assistant special teams coach Paul Guenther.

On offense, coordinator Bob Bratkowski, line coach Paul Alexander, quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese, running backs coach Jim Anderson, tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes and wide receivers coach Mike Sheppard will return.

Special teams coach Darrin Simmons and strength coach Chip Morton and assistant strength coach Ray Oliver are back, too.

awesome, bratkowski is back!!

now i'll feel like more a part of the team since i'll know every play that's coming.

1st down....pass
2nd down....run
3rd and long...um, pass??

Think outside the box, Bob. That's my only suggestion since it appears we're stuck with you for another year.

Mark:You give coaching the 4th quarter a grade of B !!!You don't have the guts to call it the way it is....our coaching is a joke! In any other city M.L.would have been run out! You need to man up or quit ...don't be a coward!!!

On a different note tell Deltha Oneil that we would all love it if the Bengals would just release him so he can sign with another team. Hopefully he can sign with a team with-in our division so we can burn him like he gets burnt here.

Sorry Deltha but you are horrible!!!!

I will give Brat a pass, if he comes back with a new mentallity next year. I will say we need new O-Lineman, and that would help this offense a lot. Too old, and too slow, yeah I know people are going to say we had low sacks, reason being is that Palmer got rid of it and that is why his INT's were up. D-Line and O-Line should be our only focus of all draft picks and FA signings, it all starts up front.

I don't understand why the offense gets a free pass. Was there a more disappointing unit in the NFL than the Bengals' offense? Was it 8 or 9 games that the offense only scored 1 TD this season?

If we're stuck with bratkowski why doesn't he adopt the "spread offense" that is so successful in college.

And if you're going to run the no huddle then run an up tempo offense. No huddle with the Oline in a stance for 20-30 seconds results in tired and slow linemen, from crouching for long periods of time. Offensive linemen need to explode off the line to be effective, especially for the run game.

This recipe of coaches, scouting and leadership is much better than ever before....The Bengals did it...I am going straight into my place of work and tell every Steeler fan and Patriot supporter that they better start handing over the hardware!!!! Eureka...it's better than I ever dreamed....This stuff has championship written all over it.........a wonderful collection of leaders and creative genuises.

Maybe Marvin will even go so far as to hire shadow coaches as he did with the defense when Frazier was here and this past year. I know I love having a "NON" employee watching and "Contributing" the way Bresnahan did a few years ago and Henderson did this year. That is such a great idea for building morale and releasing trust.

What's left but sarcasm and cynicism?

I am launching a 12 step programs to beat this loyalty/addicition......I can't do it alone..... tomorrow is my first day of sobriety.

Good bye, Mark...wish me well...one step at a time.

I thought Deltha had a decent year for a #3 corner.

I agree that when it is 2nd and 10 we always seem to run. But part of that would be Carson changing or not changing the play.

Amazing, us Bengal fans are gullible!!

We'll all trudge back to Paul Brown Stadium next year in our orange and blue collar face paint and continue to make Mike, Troy and Katy multi-millionaires. They must laugh at our simple minds, contributing every .05 cents on every dollar we spend in Hamilton County to make sure the Brown family can continue to afford their private jet, Rolls Royce’s and Camargo Country Club memberships. Bob Bedinghouse, down in the vault tallying the take and lining his own pockets at taxpayer expense.

No city has been raped by a professional team like the Queen City yet we continue to support this shameful organization, spending our hard earned, hourly wages and going home dejected.

We get what we deserve I suppose.

"bratkowski must go"

AGREED. Opponents went cover-2 and Brat had no answer. They stopped our run game with 7, 6, even 5 in the box--and Brat had no answer. Brat had just one route for Houshmandzedah, which even the TV announcers could predict. Palmer threw too many late INTs, trying to force the ball because the play-calling did not confuse defenses.

There is no run game when we need it (in the red zone, and in the 4th quarter). Only the talent of Palmer/Chad/T.J. kept the passing game going.

We need fresh blood at OC.

Was there a more disappointing unit in the NFL than the Bengals' offense?

Yes, as a matter-of-fact, I believe that the defending NFC champion Chicago Bears were a bigger disappointment in the NFL than the Bengal's Offense.

dan....great, great post man about bratkowski.

the majority of bengals fans refuse to admit that we are no longer the "high-powered bengals offense" we once were.

I agree with everybody on here, were all a bunch of suckers!!!! Mike Brown has exploited our hometown pride to make alot cash at the taxpayers expense.

Hometown Pride(Reds.Bengals,Bearcats)=SUCKER

Atleast BC is trying to win,he cares about winning, & his players/coaches know he wants to win. That is great to know as a fan, coach,or player.Atleast I think he does.He fires underachievers& brings in talent. That says something.Atleast the reds have WC trophys(5)

Bearcat(What a nice made-up creature that never has existed as your schools mascot) I like MC & that upset over louisville was awesome. He gets a pass for the rebuilding stage at UC but AK had results his 1st year as a interm coach(He also had a better class of players) The new Football coach,BK.ALOT OF RESPECT.GOOD JOB COACH!!!!!Lets just hope this blue chip city University does not pull a "Mike Brown" on your funds.

New Defintion in Dictionary to get "Mike Browned":

"Mike Browned"
To get crapped on,one feeling like they been crapped on, over & over again,An abnormal large influx of people being crapped on (Ex.) I just got "Mike browned",ouch that really sucks. How much money turned to brown(meaning it's gone like crap down the toilet)Quite a bit,I just bought season tickets for the Cincinnati Bengals at PBS!!!!

Bratkowski stinks, the offense is totally predictable. They have about four plays. Short pass to TJ or Chad. Reverse that never works. Rudi runs for 2 yard loss. Shovel pass to Watson that gains 11 yards on 3rd and 12. Hail Mary to Chad who will be tripled covered, or Henry who will run the wrong route. That's the whole playbook.

Why does the city not sue Mike Brown again?

Is Paul Brown to cheap to bring in a OC? If you notice Brat never get's called by any other NFL team for a job intrview. That should tell the people up top that he is a terrible OC and should be sent packing with DC.

edinky is the typical Bengal fan. It's Mike Brown, not Paul Brown, who is deceased. Most Bengal fans are just plain awful. That's why they keep coming back because they don't know football real well.
Now, regarding Bratkowski. He should've also been fired. Zampese would be a better coordinator and can use the talent that this offense possesses. However, this offense will be even worse if the media and the fans continue to try to drive Chad out of Cincinnati. He is NOT the problem. He's the first in and the last out. He studies film. He loves the game. He's not there for the paycheck. If we trade him, we'd get maybe a 3rd round pick for him. Where will we find his 1,400 yards per game? TJ will get doubled and his production will go down significantly. He's a #2 WR, not a #1 WR. They need each other and we need Chad. Should Marvin rope in Chad's antics a little? Absolutely. That's on Marvin, not Chad for giving him free reign.

dear "russ",

The reason the offense (and Carson, Chad and CJ) absolutley get a free pass is that they have performed incredibly well as a unit for the past several years.

Even with their "poor" performance in 07, year's "down year" meant instead of being a top 3 offense like we were in previous years, they are merely a top 10 offense. Imagine if we were so fortunate to have a top 10 (or even top 20) DEFENSE.

I think a big part of the offense struggles (and INTs) this year is due to playing catch up and having a D that can't get off the field.

So every drive becomes has to result in a touchdown. This drastically affects play calling and decision making to take more risk.

Lets talk when Bratkowski's offense finishes 25 to 32 for about 10 years in a row.

Yes, Paul Brown's son Mike Brown is that cheap.Remember the $5.00 tap waters at PBS .He likes being 8-8,just enough to keep the fans involved and then doesn't have to pay the big bucks to FA's or reward players for the great season. He's still living in the 70's on his fathers vision, pay nothing to the players & bamboozle("Mike Browned" See defintion above in former post) the fans & the city.He has payed a few players a good chunk of change,it's just that he also pay's the wrong people & let's the good ones go!!! He's to prideful to admit that he sucks as a GM and his daughter & son in law suck too. They will bury this franchise to doom if they do not go out and hire a proven GM,OC,DC, & Talent scouts. The AFC North is no joke and if your team is not prepared, then your team is screwed!

Isn't it funny Bill Parcels hires a GM to work under him and he's a Football Guru He knows what the rigor of an NFL season is all about,Mike Brown just thinks it's a waste of money to hire someone that might make him, his daughter,& his son in law look like total monkeys.Meaning you bring a proven GM,get results and now the leaders of the franchise will look dumb because they never pulled the trigger to get results. Not just a cheap issue,it's also a EGO issue

Ive been a fan since 10yrs of age and I live in Los Angeles..go figure!

Its numbing to watch this team be run by a complete, and cheap Buffoon like MB. The absolute worst owner in Professional Sports

Anon 11:27,

WOW! This coming from someone in LA? Thought you would have said the Clippers over the Bengals, but you're probably correct.

Well said, Mike Brown is indeed a big and complete BUFFOON.

Mike is the worst owner of any pro sports franchise in history.

And until the Bengals are OUT of the clutches of the greedy awfully cheap loser Browns, yet Katie, YOU TOO, they will continue to SUCK.

at 1/04/2008 4:29 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What we need to do is just forget about them. City pride be dammed. They are never going to change ever. Even if mike brown dies you still have a Brown in charge. Here is to another 17 yrs of losing seasons. Palmer we ask to be traded, so will Chad and if they don't hire a GM I see T.J. not resigning and going somewhere that knows how to win.

You all don't know anything about sports history if you think Mike Brown is the worst owner in history, least of in all of today's professional sports.

It would help if a vast collation of Cincinnati fans would get their mindsets out of the tri-state once every 30 years or so. There's a vast world out there that doesn't center the little Reds and Bengals universe.

It's really hearing that provincial world-is-against-us junk.

Bratkowski is generally considered a good offensive coordinator by NFL head coaches and GMs. When Marvin Lewis was hired by the Bengals (btw, Marvin was an 'outsider' when he was hired), he kept Bratkowski. The Bengals have one of the better offenses in the league BECAUSE of Bratkowski. He's one of the main guys in drafting his offensive players.

You may not always like his play-calling, but he knows the tendencies of the defense they are playing, and he knows how the Bengals offense has been practicing in recent weeks. He has to decide if throwing a mid-range pass on 3rd and 12 is worth the increased chance of an interception based on how the defense is expected to play. The real problem was not the play-calling, it was the running game this year. And despite no running game, the Bengals offense still finished 10th in the league.

I'm sure a lot of you don't like my opinion, so listen to someone else who has won a Superbowl and had one of the best defenses during his tenure as head coach of Baltimore:

"Bob is as good an offensive coach as I've ever known," Billick said. "I have a huge amount of respect for Bob Bratkowski. I think Bob Bratkowski has great potential, a great future as a head coach in this league. His pedigree ? I really admire what he has done offensively over the years. To question his abilities is nonsensical to me."

OK ricknmd, Who's your choice (for worst sports owner in history)?

It's got to be someone who has no interest in his sport except making money, and hasn't had more than 1 winning season 17 years.

Hue Jackson (a smart offensive mind that actually gets along with our semi-sociopathic wide recievers) is available. Bratkowski's gonna have a shadow next year, if they have any sense.
