Bengals to draft ninth
By virtue of their weak schedule, the Bengals will draft ninth in April, the NFL announced this afternoon.
The Bengals were one of seven teams to finish 7-9, but they were the worst of the 7-9 teams based on their strength of schedule. Bengals opponents had a winning percentage of .461 with a composite 118-138 record.
No. 9 is the highest the Bengals have drafted in five seasons that Marvin Lewis has overseen as head coach.
They were first overall in the 2003 draft (Carson Palmer) as the result of compiling the NFL's worst record, 2-14, in Dick LeBeau's last season as coach.
Under Lewis, the Bengals have earned the Nos. 17 (traded down twice to No. 26, 2004), 17, 24 and 18 picks in the past four years.
Besides Palmer, the Bengals have drafted running back Chris Perry, linebacker David Pollack and cornerbacks Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall under Lewis’ direction.

The schedule looks a lot harder next year. even if they revamp the bengals, I still see no more than 7-8 wins
At least we have a top ten pick. I was afaid we might drop to 13th or 14th with the back to back wins. This team is more than 1 draft away from contention I'm afraid.
Here is a tip for Marvin...
Don't draft ANYONE from
Georgia
Michigan
or
Auburn...
Please...there are over 160 college programs!!!
Mark, can you provide the round by round draft order for the Bengals and can you list the compensatory picks that they have also?
It doesn't much matter. Players come, players go, this team still stinks.
Compensatory picks have not been determined yet. That decision is made exclusively by the union, I believe. I think they're not made until February or March. The Bengals will get at least 1 extra 3rd rounder (for Steinback), and maybe another for the group including Kaesviharn, Kelly Washington, and others.
wow. bengals really did suck this year. we could have gotten an even lower pick in the draft if we weren't stubborn and decided to put the browns and dolphins away. palmer said it. this is an average team. they will never get better unless if they just accept their crap season and move on to think about the off season. the browns did it already, and they ended up 10-6, and without the bengal's help, they could have been 11-5, in the playoffs. bengals will remain average until they make a sacrifice.
