Three Bengals back to school
This from Bengals PR:
Three Bengals players -- tight end Nate Lawrie, safety Chinedum Ndukwe and wide receiver Tab Perry -- will participate in the 2008 NFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program. Ndukwe and Perry will attend sessions at the Harvard Business School from Feb. 24-27 and April 7-9. Lawrie will participate at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania from Feb. 24-27 and March 25-27.
The program is part of an ongoing initiative by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, designed to assist players in preparing for their post-playing careers. Enrollment criteria includes level of education, professional business experience, interest in starting, owning, or managing a business, and leadership and community involvement. Under the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, players may be reimbursed for up to $15,000 this year for education expenses at an accredited institution of higher learning.
During the breaks between the two sessions of their programs, players will work on projects which are outlined in the opening session.
"This is a great opportunity that the NFL provides," said Ndukwe, a second-year player from Notre Dame. "It's basically free education from top professors, something that other people pay a lot of money to get. I have a strong interest in business and business strategy, and I know we'll be looking at a lot of things, like case studies, that should help me a great deal."

Maybe they will learn how to run a football organization. If so, they need to send Mike Brown & family to it.
To any and all:
First of all in regards to this article, it's great news that these kids are going back to school and props to Vince Young for going back. Any time you see athletes complete their degree it says a lot about them as a person and you love to see that from the people that our kids look up to in this society more and more.
Second of all, to Anon: 3:51, and everyone else who feels the need to complain about Mike Brown and his family...LET IT GO! I understand the years of frustration, I understand the anger that comes from long time fans of this franchise, BUT, it is time to grow up! Realize that Mike Brown nor his family are going anywhere, nor do they care about what you or I say on this message board. We're fans, not the GM, not the VP, and most of us have no connection with the organization outside of being a fan, a season ticket holder, someone who buys the merchandise, etc.
Fans in Cincinnati are all in the same boat, we all want to see a WINNER, we all EXPECT a winner, at this point if we don't make it to the playoffs and be competitive, we're angry. That's great passion and that's what we need in this city and around our team. It's that same passion that makes me look forward to the fall and football season. It's the same passion that makes me want to be at every game, regardless of the price.
Most people who read this will say shut up or I can complain if I want to, etc. If you hate Mike Brown that much, why complain about him when it gets you no where, why buy the tickets if you're going to be sour? Get over it and quit making Mike Brown out to be the reason we lose. It's a weak excuse. Sour Bengal fans need to spend all the time/energy complaining and 'hating' on supporting and cheering.
I feel like everyone would be much happier...just a thought!
I can't wait until September! Who-Dey!!!

Tab Perry is a free agent who has been paid the past two years to rehabilitate injuries. I hope his selection to this thing doesn't imply that he'll definitely be back with us. The writing is on the wall. We don't need to pay him any more money to give us two games.
How about they attend an NFL school, and learn to play the game.

Your type cracks me up. You are the reason Brown feels like he doesn't have to change anything. 'Letting it go' will do what? Ensure that we get a heavy dose of same old, same old? If you're not actually a part of the Brown family, what is the point of your post?
I got news for you and anyone else who blames the fans for feeling what we feel: it ain't OUR fault. We support this team no matter what, finacially and emotionally. No way am I, nor should anyone else, lower their expectations due to incompetent ownership. It is our right to complain how this team is ran, just as much as it is to cheer.
And who said people who complain are buying tickets? Last I heard, lots of people are letting PSL's and season tix go. The glass is half empty dude, not half full. I'm not going to say the sky is red when I know it's blue just to make myself 'feel better'.
That's called R E A L I T Y.
Anon 7:24,
Thanks for the stick-my-head-in-the-sand lesson, Dr. Phil. Can I have my money back now?
Nice to see some positive press about our players. Not that anyone outside this blog will ever know... All I am saying is don't expect an ESPN expose about this.
"nic heb" I am pretty sure that you are a recent Bengals fan. Not a big deal, glad to have you on board. However, you might want to look into the sad history of franchise since M. Brown took over. The management of this team is absolutely responsible for the abject failure of the teams from the 1990s and the early 2000s, as well as the current mediocre team. Fans here have earned the right to be bitter about the decision makers. That has nothing to do with "growing up," as you put it, and has everything to do with

Thanks for "from the heart" pep rally. Here's the thing though. The people/fans residing in Hamilton County have every right to voice their opinion of Mike Brown and family because they are subsidizing him with their pocketbooks. They are the ones paying for HIS stadium while he cranks out perpetual loser teams and rakes in tons of money. The citizens have a vested interest in a winning ballclub.
That's not to say Bengals fans outside of Hamilton County have nothing to be upset about. Anyone who has purchased a ticket, food at PBS, parking at PBS, a Bengals NFL licensed product, etc have put more money into Mike Brown's coffer and received nothing in return.
Even if a fan has invested no money into any of those things they still have reason to be disappointed. 15 of the last 17 seasons have been dreadful.
Mike Brown is concerned with profits only. He makes money whether the Bengals win or lose. Why would he pay a GM? That's just another salary he has to pay and less profit.
I think there are a lot of people out there who want to see the Bengals win, no doubt. But that doesn't mean people have to deny or ignore the reason that they don't.
Good for these guys, and good for the Bengals in creating some good publicity for a change.
Its about time the NFL did something productive for players in preparation for the "real world" after football is over.
Too many sad stories out there of athletes after the glory of pro sports fades away, see James Francis.
I'd bet these 3 guys will be successful in life long after their career is over.'
M.B. & M.L. = 6-10 Record in 08 This is getting worse everyday Marv..Less is on the job!! We will improve when this arrogant misfit leaves town !! (MAD IN MASON)
Anon 9:29 and 12:58…
My point is made here with you. You think I'm a recent fan because I refuse to make lame excuses, hate Mike Brown, etc. I've been a fan since the mid 80s when I came to this area. I've always liked football and it wasn't until the mid 80s that I was in an area I could cheer for a team. Yes, I will agree that the 90s were miserable, I'll agree that 8-8 which once was an equivalent to a SuperBowl in Cincinnati (pre-Marvin) is miserable at this point in time. You are preaching to the choir about being unhappy because the Bengals aren't an every year contender for the SuperBowl.
I understand all of that and agree with it. BUT, what does complaining about Mike Brown do for you? It hasn't got you any where in the past 15-20 years and it won't get you any where in the future 20. I'm not saying don't be frustrated, but it's absolutely ridiculous to sit here and "WHINE" about Mike Brown. I get tired of hearing about the excuses. I go to PBS and I see so many fans just sitting around and not cheering, it's sickening. Everyone is all for the Bengals when they win, but will find any and every excuse to why they lose.
I may be a younger fan, but I know enough to know Mike Brown has control of the Bengals and you can be angry all you want and it won't change. I'd much rather these blogs have something to do with football, not someone going back to school, a link to someone else's story, a link to Mark's own story, etc. Let's talk about the up coming draft, things that need to change, what we have that's good, what we have that's not good, how you would change it, etc. But when we do those types of things, lets be realistic…Saying "Fire Mike Brown" isn't realistic, get over it and move on…GROW UP!
It makes no since for apparently all you 'older' Bengal fans to waste so much time and energy complaining. It's sickening. I always wondered why people said Cincinnati fans aren't good fans, the last few years it's been evident…FAIR WEATHER…Bottom line, you complain about something that won't change…PERIOD, move on, lets talk about who we need to take in the draft and not say, "a new owner".
That was the point of my post, I'm not saying Mike Brown isn't at fault by any means, but in every blog it never fails a complaint or 5 about Mike Brown. It hasn't changed anything yet and it never will.
Who-Dey to any all

In regards to the Hamilton County voters and anyone who has bought anything with a Bengals logo, or food at the statidum, tickets, etc. I'm not saying don't be upset about it, I'm saying that it's a waste, lets use our blogs to talk about football not things that are unrealistic. I'm not trying to argue Mike Brown is a good owner, that he is a great person, or he cares about putting a good team on the field.
I'm simply stating that anyone complaining about it is wasting their time. I guess I'm kind of tired of hearing about it. It's one of those things we're ALL stuck with. He's not my first pick for an owner and he's not my first pick for who I would want to run my franchise, but regardless of that, we're stuck with him. Lets all agree that regardless of what we all say, he's the owner.
When I come to my blogs I want to read about why we should draft a certain way, why we should switch to a 3-4 from a 4-3 or staying with a 4-3, etc. Something that is prevalent and a good discussion. Not when Mark posts a good or in some cases crummy article/point to discuss everyone jumps on here and says fire Mike Brown.
It's like beating a dead horse, because he undoubtedly has ruined the past for this franchise, there is no denying that, but he's here and not going anywhere. Lets move on to what we all truly care about here...FOOTBALL!
Not to mention Hamilton County voters very well could have voted no for the taxes that are paying for the stadium, just like people that live outside of HC don't have to buy the tickets and gear. It's a choice we all make.
I want to talk football and read others opinions on football. Not the same old "fire Mike"...That's just me, I guess my heart is in the game, not in the owner's box or office.
Who-Dey!

Nick in Fort Thomas:
Perhaps you should move on to a different blog. Doesn't seem like a lot of people share your view. Not going to stifle my opinion because some guy doesn't want to hear it. You have a choice of not reading this blog, suggest you use it.
And one last thing. You (and others) throw out the 'fair weather fans' and 'worst fans in the league' insults like you really know what you're talking about. The reality is you don't. You aren't from Cincy, regardless of when you moved here, and you don't even live in the county. So who are you to point fingers at the disgruntled fans who've been fleeced by the organization? We would like a return on our investment with this team, who by the way shares yearly revenue with the league in excess of a billion dollars. The fact you can't understand that suggests you are the one who needs to grow up.
Maybe call the local news stations too, and tell them to stop showing depressing stuff, because you don't like it?!
Nick,
Who's the one really making lame excuses?
Me: hold someone accountable for their actions.
You: let it slide, there's nothing we can do.
anon 9:02...
Again, I'm not saying I let it slide, but me complaining on a blog about Mike Brown isn't holding him accountable, it's making an excuse. PERIOD. I'm not letting it slide, but I know there is nothing that I can say that will change it. Talking about me not living in the county and moving here is crap, I work in Cincinnati, I pay for my season tickets, and I buy the gear, I'm just as big a fan as you are. You want a return on your investment, I guess maybe you should think about what you invest in. I understand you expecting big things and wanting big things. I do too.
If you don't like paying for the stadium and putting money into the team then don't. You can move outside of the city. You have just as many options as anyone else. I lived outside of Cincinnati, by like an hour before moving here, they're my team rather I live in Hamilton County.
I guess we can all to an extent agree to disagree. We all seem to be on the level that Mike Brown is a bad owner and hasn't done what we all feel is necessary to field a winner (by any stretch of the imagination). We disagree though that coming on a blog and complaining makes a difference.
It's been an entertaining blog for me and I truly hope that I haven't angered anyone by my comments because by no means was that my intention. As much as I don't want to hear about it, I'm a realist and know that until the Bengals are either consistently good, or Mr. Brown & family resign/sell the team that it's going to be a hot topic of discussion.
It's unfortunate for ALL Bengals fans that we have to year in, year out see a crummy product. But in my optimistic outlook, I hope and pray that we can get things turned around, get back to the playoffs in 08 and make a run for a SuperBowl. Rather it is possible, or will happen is yet to be seen. How much Brown & company do to make a possibility (if anything) is yet to be seen.
All any of us can do though is hope and continue supporting our beloved Bengals. Through think and thin, through bad ownership and bad decisions. We all want a winner and demand a winner. That is the reason the tax for the stadium was passed. I hope we all get what we're looking for.
My only question though is: Do we want a Winning football team or a new owner? I want a SuperBowl and am realistic to know that if we do get it, it's going to be with Mike Brown, because I doubt he's going to fire himself over what a few bloggers say on the Enquirer's website.
To everyone, God Bless and Who-Dey!
