Bengals plan meetings with agents

Bengals management will meet during the NFL scouting combine this week in Indianapolis with agents for linebacker Landon Johnson and free safety Madieu Williams, both eligible for unrestricted free agency beginning Feb. 29. Agents Andy Simms (Johnson) and Kenny Zuckerman (Williams) will meet with members of the Bengals front office during breaks at the combine, which will open Thursday.

Last week, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said team negotiators had been in contact with all of the team's free agents.

Lewis said an announcement of a franchise tag designation could come early this week. The deadline is Thursday. Defensive end Justin Smith and offensive lineman Stacy Andrews are the two unrestricted free agents most likely to get the designation.

Tenders to restricted free agents are due by Feb. 28. Free agency and the new league year will begin the following day.

How is Kenny Irons' rehab going. Will he be ready to play in the pre-season? Will he return at full strength?

Here's what I see. The Bengals need to go after a DT and a DE in the offseason or in the draft. The DLM and LBs are very undeproductive on this team and time of possesion is a real indicator. They need to concentrate on balancing the team on both sides of the ball.

In order to accomplish this they need to try to put together a trade in order to get an extra pick or two.

After that they should go after a LB or LBs to shore up that area. It may look like they have possiblitities with the return of Pollack or Thurman but the thought is that they will still need help at that position.

After that they can consider OLM, RB, TE, or WRs.

Cincy management needs to stop pussyfooting around and get the job done.

I agree. Trading for extra picks is the way to go.
