WR Tab Perry to Miami

Wide receiver Tab Perry, who played his first three seasons for the Bengals, has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, agent Peter Schaffer said this afternoon.

The Bengals did not extend a qualifying offer to Perry as a restricted free agent by the Feb. 28 deadline, releasing him to free agency. The Bengals did not want to give Perry -- who played in only four games the past two seasons combined because of a recurring hip injury -- a one-year tender of $927,000. They had hoped to do a multi-year deal at a lower annual salary.

"This is not anything anti-Bengal," Schaffer said of Perry's decision. "A one-year deal in Miami is a better situation for Tab.

"He's enjoyed playing for the Bengals and appreciates them drafting him and giving him the opportunity to play in the NFL. He has made life-long friends in Cincinnati."

Perry was a sixth-round pick from UCLA in 2005. After an impressive rookie season on special teams as the primary kickoff return man and in kick coverage, he sustained the hip injury at the end of the second game of 2006. It has affected him since. Perry's camp said he is 100 percent healthy.

Tab Perry. Thankfully he is gone. What a waste of a roster spot. You act like this is some great loss. My guess is he won't even make the Dolphins roster.

Actually if healthy,Perry will make the roster as the #3 reciever/return man. Though he played little here in Cincy, that is due to the hip and the fact that Cincy has 3 better recievers ahead of him. He does have the ability to be an average WR in the NFL/above average return man.

He played what, 2 games in 2 seasons? Glad he's gone. Maybe we can keep DeDe Dorsey or someone that stays healthy and actually use the roster spot, instead of waste it for half the season and then IR the guy.

Tab made such a good contribution to the team his rookie year. He gave us a good kick returner. I will never forget the kick return his rookie year against the Steelers that he nearly returned for a touch down and was literally fighting off a Steeler and dragging him a good 10 yards. It definately helped us beat the Steelers that day. Tab also held the promise of developing into a third receiver because of his size and speed. It was disappointing last year when he did play that he wasn't able to gel with Carson, they just weren't on the same page. Tab will probaly have a better chance of making the roster in Miami, and you would think that was a big part of his decision.

6:42,

I think you were kind with Tab when you said 3 WR better than him.. I think Holt and Chatman are better than him as well. Honestly, I'm glad he's gone and I wish him good luck.

Not Worth my Pepsi Points and a waste of roster spot for 2 years. Chris Perry should be next. I cannot believe that the Big Tuna signed him.

Yes, indeed, this is one of the few cases where I'm glad the Bengals did not "spend the cap money." I agree with the previous poster about Holt (not sure on Chatman) being better than Tab.

Though, I'm not so sure the Bengals are as high on Holt as many of us are, for unknown reasons. Yes, his KR fumbles are bad, but I thought he gave us waay more pop than Tab, or anyone else. He also took some hellacious hits and made good catches in the first Cleveland game, but they never settled on him at No. 3, they instead gave Chatman the next few games and then Henry.

This team/coaching staff/front office has a tendency to get down on certain, good producing, good character guys, now and then. Not that Keiwan Ratliff and Kelly Washington were stars, but the Bengals ran them out of here, yet gleefully trot out Henry and Rucker still. I mean, baggage aside, he's not produced. Kelly Washington was a beast on special teams last year. Is he a FA? I don't think NE was going to pay him that ridiculous roster bonus...

Oh well, overall I'm happy we saved some money. I liked the Odom signing, love the Utetch signing (if and when it goes through), and am ambivalent to the Blackstock signing. I hope we get Ethan Kelly, than draft Ellis in round 1. That would be a really good off season. Filling needs that FA left plus bolstering other areas that have been weak for awhile. The rest of the draft should be used to add depth to the offensive line and secondary. I really don't think we need another running back but I wouldn't mind Ray Rice from Rutgers or Ian Johnson from Boise State in the mid rounds.

It's a shame injuries kept Tab from playing. When he was healthy, he was a real asset to the Bengals. I wish him nothing but good luck.

Amen...I'm liking Marvin getting rid of the dead weight on this team...AKA Justin Smith, Landon Johnson, Madieu Williams, Tab Perry...hopefully we can part with Dexter Jackson & Rudi Johnson before the season starts.

I wish the best for Perry. But Marvin needs to trim even MORE fat from this team.

We have WAY too many non-contributing players taking up roster spots. We've waited long enough for these guys to get healthy and back on the field. (I'm pointing at you, Chris Perry.)

Tab Perry was a good player when healthy...Unfortunately that wasn't very often. I am glad to see a little house cleaning...Chris Perry would have been a better departure...

Another injury prone Marvin draftee departs. He hardly played because of injury. We won't even know he is gone. Oh yeah, why haven't we release Chris Perry? He has only played in 10 games in 4 years...

When healthy though, he's a special teams monster. I don't think he's going to make it as a WR, but if he can stay healthy, he'll make a decent career on ST.

Thank god we didn't sign him again.

Chris Perry is in a different league than Tab Perry. Chris Perry is a superstar. He caught a bad break, and then caught another one. What was he really going to do for us in 2007 when we had three active backs doing a decent job. Why not get stronger/healthier and come back for 2008?

If he isn't productive or gets hurt this year, then we need to get rid of him. Maybe you forget, he's better than Kenny Irons - both in receiving and running. He had no durability issues in college, and I hope he'll be back.

If we should cut anyone, it's Pollack. He's cleared to play and still holding out. I understand his reasoning, but he's doing us no favors by waiting so long for a decision. He's just looking to get paid as long as possible.

If Chris Perry was cleared to play, he'd be on the field.
