Bengals re-sign LB Manning
The Bengals today re-signed linebacker Roy Manning to a one-year contract. He had been waived Feb. 11 and released to free agency. He played in five games with seven tackles on special teams with the Bengals in 2007. The Bengals acquired Manning off waivers Nov. 13.
Manning has played in 21 NFL games (with two starts), 15 of those as a rookie in 2005 with the Green Bay Packers, who originally signed him as a college free agent. In 2006, he played in one game for Houston and finished the year on the Buffalo roster. He was with Jacksonville briefly in the 2007 regular season (inactive for one game) before the Bengals acquired him on waivers. His career statistics include 20 tackles on defense and 21 tackles on special teams.
Manning will be a fourth-year player in 2008.
Also, the Bengals have agreed on a one-year contract with linebacker Darryl Blackstock, but the contract has not been signed. It is a one-year deal for the $520,000 minimum for a player with three credited seasons, plus a $40,000 signing bonus. The agreement was in place Monday. He has been in Arizona, and the deal was being signed through the mail, according to his agent.

Mark, I believe you meant Blackstock and not Blockstock, typo I am sure. Why has he not signed on the dotted line by now? What is up? Signing another LB and not getting him signed, does this send us all a sign? I hope not!
One thing about those Bengal executive, they sure do lock up the big stars like Manning very efficiently. Marcus Wilkins was released, our best special teams guy in '06. No word on trying to sign him. I guess the luminaries are too busy to learn the intricacies of the CBA and the NFL's trade rules to bother signing any proven contributors.
Why??? lol
Blackstock and Manning in place.
Now go sign Tom Tumulty and Steve Shine and we have a Super Bowl caliber defense.
This is HUGE,wait a minute.No it's not
More Scrap heap for this great football team. What a team.Defense is fine,we don't need a top tier free agent that regulates the field with fear, what we need is another 4th string LB that play's on one of the NFL'S leading special team(In yards given).
Good signing
Bengal's Spokesman said
"MB & CO. reliaze that a top tier LB will cost to much money,MB 's blueprint to success is always been saving money by sighting talent where other GM 's can't.MB's results speak volumes, making him a respected NFL guru in the management rank's".
18 years, the road to a championship.A very long, long, long, long ,long endless rd. of inept(Cheap) decision making.
What's new!!!
I can only hope that by signing these special teamers now, the front office is going to feel free to package some of these picks to move up and get the DT and OLB we need.
I can't believe people are once again crying over the Bengals signing a backup / special teams player.
Mike Brown spares no expense I still see. 1 First Class Stamp is all he needs. LOL

The reason Blackstock isn't signed yet, Mike Brown sent his driver to pick him up in Arizona in his Lumina to save air fare...

Anon 7:05-That was funny, I laughed very hard.
The sad part is it's true!!!
????? I am speechless! Well, no I'm not! Are we attempting to sign every LB that no one else wants? Is our roster going to consist of 40 LB and a QB? I am all for competition, but HUH.....
The only positive that I HOPE comes out of this, is the fact they are putting themselves in a position not to DRAFT A LB. Maybe this shows they are after LINEMEN!
Nfl.com free agent news about Torry Holt: Rumors swirl like March wind this time of year. But the Torry Holt trade rumors — to Philadelphia or Cincinnati, take your pick — are simply hot air, according to coach Scott Linehan. Linehan says the Rams aren't shopping their star wide receiver.
My own opinion is Rumors are 75% of the time BS, but it still makes you wonder if a Holt for CJ trade is being planned
Heard anything Mark ?
Come on everyone - If you hate the Bengals, stop complaining and go follow another team. They signed a special teams player to a minimal contract. It's a good deal. If Mark had posted that he signed elsewhere, everyone would have been yelling and screaming about how they let him go. This is our Bengals team and like it or not, MB and ML are here to stay, so start rooting for your team.
Mark, I would be interested to know a list of players who would be looking at restricted or unrestricted free agency after the upcoming season. Do you think that plays into how they draft(just like they did last year with the 2 drafted safties and plans of not resigning Medieu). Any word on players going into the final year that may be looking for an extension now when we have the cap room.
Manning = A Poor Man's Rico McDonald.
Chris,
Well said, i agree completely. I am also still HOPING that we are in the utecht race, any word about that from you mark, or any of you bloggers out there?

Hey Chris 9:37, I appreciate your enthusiasm, I really do! But the problem with your scenario is that no other team would sign Manning. And that is why a lot of the fans, myself included are upset with the typical Bengals way of doing business... Sign a subpar player who can play 2 roles.
i love it when jealous Reds fans post comments on a Bengal blogpage. Why dont you all go back to your boring sport of baseball and leave us excited football fans alone. get lost losers!!!!!
What reds fan are you referring to? YOu just wasted a post on this blog, why even bring up baseball on a bengals page...its you that needs to get lost.
