Chad in Hawaii for practice

After his first Pro Bowl practice Thursday in Hawaii, Bengals wide receiver allegedly shoved an NFL public relations official.

Johnson also went on NFL Network, the league-owned TV station, and complained about the lack of support shown him by the Bengals and his teammates.

The comment from T.J. Houshmanzadeh in today's story, that he "should have been to a lot more" Pro Bowls perfectly sums up what is wrong with the Bengals' locker room. T.J. is a great receiver, and he is a perfect complement to Chad with his ability/willingness to make tough catches over the middle. But look around the AFC. Look at some of the other WRs. Can anyone really say that before this year, T.J. should have gone to a "lot more" Pro Bowls? The amount of individual ego on this team, considering the absolute lack of team success, is astounding.

Also, Chris Henry loose in Hawaii during Pro Bowl week. I can already read the headlines/police report.

And, finally: Mark, I blame you for Chad allegedly shoving the cameraman. I don't know why I blame you, but I'm sure it's your fault. (I'm just trying to fit in with some of the other bloggers on here)

Saw this as a side bar to the TJ Pro Bowl Story:

"Johnson also defended his outspokenness: "I get out of line at times, but what great one doesn't? What great one doesn't get emotional? Find me a great one who hasn't done it like that and I'll be quiet."

Two words for you Chad: Jerry Rice

The Bengals did the most horrible thing this year that anybody could do to another person psyche. They pointed a mirror at a problem child. Ocho Turdo psychologically fell to pieces after they showed him how professionals viewed him and what they thought of his antics. The rest is internal frustration brought on by a realization. I hear when he lunged
for the NFL PR guy , the PR guy went right through his hands.

I love that word "allegedly." If its only "alledgedly" why even write about? Who's the source? Slow day Mark? Got to write something negative about Chad so why not throw this "alleged" incident on the blog. Folks, Chad has every right to complain especially with this Cincy media circus. I'm not saying Chad isn't at fault for somethings but it certainly seems like people (especially the media) only want to point the finger at Chad. Communication is a two-way street, I don't think Marvin's doing his job either. My suggestion to you Mark and the rest of the media team, lay off for awhile...you're only perpetuating this situation.

P.S. Chad is clearly insane at this point.

Actually, this is a pretty interesting strategy by Chad: If he gets really aggressive and thuggish toward the media (and fans), the Bengals may have little choice but to find a trading partner for him.

As incompetant as Mike Brown is, I don't think he can stomach much more negative publicity with the franshise's past reputation as a haven for thugs.

However, I don't think Chad is nearly that smart, devious or calculating to pull it off. A heckuva player, but really is simply of stereotype of the stupid, self-indulged athlete we've all come to know and love.

Chad has painted his apologists into a corner this time, but I'm sure his faithful worshipers will continue to fight. Let him go to Miami and catch passes from the QB du jour. I don't think that WRs are as replaceable as some people think (ask Tom Brady), but when your most talented and outspoken player has no interest in the team aspect of the game the results will not be good.

You know what Chad needs, a "Happy Meal" how about we trade him and Rudy for Houston WR Andre Johnson, won't happen but I can dream, no actually send him to Buffalo

I came on here to reply to Chad's
challenge, but was beat to it.
Marvin Harrison and Jerry Rice.
Didn't Chad once use Jerry as his hero. Well Chad if you acted like your hero you wouldn't be in this posistion. It's so simple.

When you think about it, not too many of the all-time greats in any sport have "gotten out of line at times" like Chad does. Jordan, Magic, Bird, Bill Russell, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, Rice, Ladanian, A-rod, the list goes on and on. Unless he considers Brian Bosworth, Ryan Leaf, and Jeremy Stevens to be "great ones" then he is a bit mistaken in my opinion.

I'm curious. What would be impact on Chad's contract and salary cap if he opted to sit out the year. I'm thinking but am not sure that the contract would be extended by a year and that the unpaid salary would be a credit to the cap. At the same time I suspect the amortization of the signing amount would probably still count against the cap. Is that right?

Glad to see the Chad & Drew Show off to a good start in Hawaii. Now let's trade him to Miami for the #1 pick so we can draft some defense.

Mark wrote about it because it was only a lead story on the front page of ESPN.com and cnnsi.com, and those were the only two I checked.

So if it is front page news on NATIONAL websites, something tells me that the local writer is almost obligated to mention it.

This blaming Mark for reporting about a NATIONAL NEWS STORY is about as stupid as it gets, but with Cincy fans stupid is what we get.

All the Bengals have to do is draft a wide out in the first or second round. Problem half way solved.

Then they either call Johnson's bluff about sitting out and demand he apologize for his atrocious act, and keep him around, all of which is completely unlikely, or they renogiate his contract downward to make him tradable. Other half of problem gone.

I've asked this question 5-6 times in the last two weeks of bloggers and Mark, Someone should know. When was the last time the Bengals made a trade of any significance? I can't remember any since Coy Bacon, who had a couple great seasons here. Anybody have any info here?

Then Bengals front office is so screwed up they can't even make trades. Pickens, Scott, Dillon, now Johnson. The cancer grows and spreads. Is it really any wonder why this team has had only one winning season in the last 17? As good as Paul B. was, son Mike is that bad.

And Chad Johnson has completely and offically worn out his welcome here. If it were up to Marvin alone, he'd be move quickly. No coach wants this crap on his team.

bandwagon fans annoy me. Chad is the best wideout in the NFL. go away I'm tired of reading your stupid posts about Chad. Only reason anyone watches the Bengals is because of him. I'm so sick of this Cincinnati Fans Sports Smarts. You people are idiots.

I must say that up until the event that recently happened at the Pro Bowl(with the NFL PR person), I too was a Chad defender and apologist. And even though I think he is a good athlete, I don't agree with his childish, disrespectful behavior towards the Bengals organization and the NFL.

I have always known that,"pride goes before a great fall" and right now he is experiencing this first hand. No one is irreplaceable at any job or position and I feel he does need to be humbled and reminded of this fact in life.

If he is one of the "great ones" as he believes he is, then he should display a more mature demeanor and character and fulfill his contract here in Cincinnati first, then ask to be traded to another team.

I'm sure it is frustrating to be on a team that you feel may never be a true NFL title contender or Super Bowl champion, but expressing this emotion in the childish manner that Chad has been doing is totally unprofessional.

As an African-American mother of 2 college-degreed daughters and a son and having an MBA myself, I have become embarrassed by his antics, since I pride myself and hold other people of my race to conduct themselves in a higher standard in order to denounce racist stereotypes and labels that some people have given to us.

Chad, you are losing supporters and giving people who have never liked you more ammunition to negatively criticize you, with these recent outbursts of yours. Think about how all of your actions (positive and negative) are going to affect you in the long run, because "you do reap what you sow".

Mike Brown and the Bengals could end this issue with Chad Johnson quickly. They should offer Chad Johnson a new one year contract with incentives that could make him the highest paid player at his wide receiver position. Incentives should be based on the previous year statistics for the league and Chad Johnson individually. Rewards for exceeding the league statistical performance averages, exceeding players making more than Chad Johnson's statistical performance, attendance at home games, team winning season, getting into the playoffs and how far the Bengals go in the playoffs or Super Bowl ®. There should also be detailed specific monetary penalties and possible suspension without pay for violation and conviction of local, state, or federal laws; violation of league or team policy, a team loosing season, and trying to negotiate new contracts in public. This would set an example and provide a solution for the issue of other players want out of their contracts. As current contracts expire, replacing them with this one year structure would provide for players to be the best paid while still giving Mike Brown and the Bengals control. This structure would free Marvin Lewis of the responsibility of player character monitoring and control and allowing him to do what he was hired for, which is coaching football. The coaching staff should be under similar contracts. In the business world, those who take the most risk, i.e. commissioned sales people, have the opportunity to earn more than those who settle for mediocrity. The contracts should include rewards or compensation for taking financial education classes, learning about saving, bond/certificate of deposit investing and some matching funds for IRA type of investing. Encourage, maybe through rewards, community involvement during the off-season while limiting involvement during the football season.
Mike Brown is an educated successful businessman and lawyer. This strategy would resolve several issues. If the team chooses not to proceed in a monnor similar to this, they might be letting Chad Johnson's action provide them empathy, a sad but possible thought. This issue is a method of getting national attention for a terrible team, conspiracy theory...... not really.
