Bengals sign punter

From Bengals PR:

The Bengals today signed free agent punter Danny Baugher to a two-year deal.

This is Baugher's second stint with Cincinnati. He signed with the Bengals as a college free agent out of Arizona in May 2006. He was waived shortly after training camp began later that year. He later was signed to New England’s practice squad, where he spent the last 11 games of the Patriots’ 2006 season. After being signed to the New England’s 2007 offseason roster last January, Baugher was waived by the Patriots on Aug. 30. He was not with an NFL team during the 2007 regular season.

Baugher was the nation’s top college punter in 2005 until a knee injury caused him to miss the final four games. His 47.5-yard avg. (on 37 punts) was the best in NCAA Division I and qualified as a school record, but he did not qualify for the official NCAA rankings because he did not play in 75 percent of his team’s games.

The Bengals' punter, Kyle Larson, is eligible for unrestricted free agency beginning Feb. 29.

We need 2 punters, all the work they'll be getting this coming season (ton of 3 and outs)

This single move will surely put them over the top now! This, my friends, is the big off-season move we've been waiting for!

Mark,
I am sorry for all of the grief you get when some one feels that you shouldnt post a story. Having said that. Honestly, why did you post this? A Punter! A Punter! Never the less one who hasn't been in the NFL... EVER! OOOOOO a couple of months in training camp and practice squads! Holy Wow!

I know it is bengals news and that is what you do. This is the kind of thing that I shouldn't know.

IF WE GET PUNTER UPDATES THEN MCDONALDS SHOULD GIVE US FRY-BOY UPDATES. ( ex: today the large burger chain released the statement that they hired a new Director of Marketing and a new Fry-Boy. Billy from Des Moines is on the phone with us right now, Hi Billy)

Don't ever do that again.

People complain he misses things, then he posts news and people complain about it!!! Seriously, people, if you dislike the blog, don't read it! It's really not that hard.

Thanks, Mark, for updating us.

THANK YOU LAURA!!! Well said. Seriously, these people should start their own blog so they don't infest the rest of us with their stupidity with comments such as,

"IF WE GET PUNTER UPDATES THEN MCDONALDS SHOULD GIVE US FRY-BOY UPDATES"

Mike from Turtleburt,

True team fans want to know about ALL roster transactions.

Furthermore, punters are highly underrated. If your punter has a net average of 5 yards above the league average, that means every time you trade punts you gain 10 yards in field position. Each team punts about 4 - 5 times per game. That's 40 - 50 yards! That would be a reasonable number of yards for a third down back or possession receiver and we certainly pay attention to those!

Oh rapture...

This team is going 11-5 this year for sure....

Mike Brown for GM of the year!

Mark, way to bust this story. Nice hustle.

(Better spell check, the gramm(e)r police are tracking me, well, your single person fan club is, anyway)

You Da MAN!

Well thanks Russ,
You straighten these kind of things out and thats why i like you. I now understand the importance of punters and that they are truly rare commodities. All of those balls dropping with in the 20 yard line is a very underated luxury. Now that I have this clear understanding i now realize the importance of this underated position that the true diehards understand as the "punter". With these punters we can now watch the other team get in to the end zone from longer distances. Please, punters come and go, similar to a fry-boy and/or burger flipper. When they come its kind of like, "hey, new guy!" and when they leave its kind of like "he has been gone for a month?" IT IS A PUNTER FOR PETE ROSE SAKE!!!

I am not quite saying that a punter isn't important. No, no, no my friends... It just isnt note worthy. Unless you are like Russ and talkin about how Kyle Larson was the key factor in many of our wins!?!?!? (we could gain an extra 40-50 with an average 5 yard above legue a........ I couldn't finish that)

Mike from 12:52

I think we found our new GM/bengals beat writer (sorry mark - russ just understands so much)

Oh Haystacks, you hate Mark, yet you check his blog every day. That says a lot about you. The Bengals signing a punter has more of an effect on the Bengals than the Ravens signing a QB coach.

At least you spelled everything correctly, I'm so proud

Any chance they use the franchise tag on Kyle Larson? I can't imagine the cap number of average of the top 5 punters will effect what the Bengals can and can't do in the offseason.

Again - don't like what's on the blog, don't read it.

Seriously, you people need to grow up. The lack of intelligent commenting on here is pathetic.

I think that your fan club member has a man crush on me....I'm frightened. I have a cyber-stalker. Oooof.

For the record, Mark is a nice guy, and a very talented writer.

He's just not a very good NFL beat writer is all. His style would work much better served writing anti-Bush pieces in Rolling Stone or CityBeat.

Hey Laura,
I came to this blog for intelligent commentary! Infact, isn't that what blogs are made for? Screw the whole expression of opinions. Yeah, this is a place us all to become commentators that are respected for their intelligence and knowledge of the game.

Yes, Laura! Yes! In the Bengals blog our knowledge will flourish and our Opinions will be acknowledged by our Superiors!

Thank you Laura we couldn't agree with you more.

Having said that I will make sure not to read the artical because it is the commentary that we all appreciate. (notice I responded to yours)

As far as i'm concerned the Bengals need a punter. They could nver kick the ball into the endzone duirng kickoffs.. Thanks for the update Mark.

BTW, FryBoy went home sick because he burned his knuckle with grease. Second shift FryBoy called in sick so order the apple turnover side when at the druve thru.

Did I ever say I was the pinnacle of intelligence, Mike? No.

Did I say people had to be geniuses to post on here? No.

Still, intelligent comments are appreciated. Saying that you feel sorry for Mark getting grief for posting things that others don't care about and then proceeding to do that exact thing is childish.

And when trying to defend yourself, at least spell "artical" right.
