Belichick:Focus is on Bengals

New England coach Bill Belichick, in a conference call with reporters who cover the Bengals this morning, was asked about the effect personally on him of the fine and punishment from the NFL for the Patriots' illegal use of video during the opener against the Jets.

"Right now we're thinking about Cincinnati, that's it," he said. "That more than fills out plate up."

In the conversation, Belichick, winner of three of the past six Super Bowls, said wide receiver Randy Moss has been everything the Patriots had hoped for when they traded for him: "Works hard, smart, good skill set, very instinctive receiver. ... Other players and coaches we talked to recommended him very highly."

Belichick also said quarterback Tom Brady's greatness isn't defined by his gaudy pass stats after three games. Brady has 10 touchdown, one interception and a 79.5 completion percentage.

"Stats are not the important thing," Belichick said of Brady. "It's a short body of work. The most important thing for Tom and our football team is to move the football and score points."

Belichick said his offense has not faced a defense like the Bengals that is designed to take the ball away.

"You can gain some yards, and all that gets negated," he said.

Give me a break you know the patriots are licking they're chops
to play this poor excuse of a defense. Carson will have to throw
5 td's to even have a chance to win. So sad

Our defense is designed to take the ball away? I thought it was designed to give up 30+ points a game..

Bill Belichick is worried about our team? What a joke! If the Bengals play like they have played the last couple of weeks they are going to get their butt kicked by a real NFL team like the Patriots.

The Bengals will probably lose this one by 30+ points again this year as well..

Fair weather fans,
That't all this town is good for. You guys could take a lesson learned from Boston (with their Red Sox).

I'm sure if they were 3-0, you three would be the first ones down there with your orange afro wigs, telling your friends about how you've always been a fan and you knew they would start off like this.

How about some support here,
They just might suprise you.

What does it matter if our defense does somehow play well. Our special teams will give it away anyways.

Who cares if our defense somehow plays well. We'll either turn the ball over 4 times again or our special teams will blow it.

You know you're in trouble when your head coach offers this explanation for why he went for a 2-point conversion late in the Seattle game in an obvious kick the extra point situation: "By going for two, it gives us an opportunity late in the game to put some different things on the table," Lewis said. "Some different things on the table?" The only different thing on the table is going to be the name plate of the head coach if Lewis keeps making calls like that one.

Save your money and don't even bother to show up. Moss will have a career day against the Bumgals defense.

Hey Bill -- Can it. You know you have tape of the Bengals so you will know what they plan to do. You should have been suspended-- not fined 500,000 dollars. When you make ten times that a year...you probably paid the fine with the change in your pocket. The bengals don't have a "take away" defense -- you are blowing smoke. One quick thought...you did not do so well when you were in cleveland...i guess you were not taping games back them.

It's obvious that Belichick was simply not trying to say anything that would make the Bengals mad (such as "your defense really needs improvement"). Maybe we could pay him to say something like this...

Mark, it seems to me that on top of everything else, the Bengals have a rather difficult schedule this year. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Pat

Corner cutting has always hurt us. This year it is quality Special Teams players that went to other teams to start. A few injuries later, and the wholes are obvious.

You can't just plug one hole and not expect another to open up.

Mark, what is your take on the whole Levi Jones thing? I can't fathom why you give a Pro-Bowl player $40 million to play second string. Are Marvin and Levi speaking to each other? Because Levi talks to the media as if he has no idea what the issue is. Can you shed any light on this? Weird...

take the ball away?...first you need to know where the ball is, then you need to get to the guy with it, then you TRY to take the ball away, step one and two are critical to a defence designed to WIN...problem solved!

How about a defense designed to win the line of scrimmage and stop the run and put pressure on the QB? How about a healthy mix of veterans and younger draft choices to cover kicks/punts and minimize the chance of a big play? How about a coach who knows how to manage the clock and know when it is appropriate to go for two? How about an owner/front office that actually gave a s#$!?

I weep for the future . . .

Leading up to the Pats-Bengals game feels like the Monday night game a few years ago between Bengals-Broncos. Broncos looked unstoppable Bengals looked hopeless. It wasn't pretty, but when the game was done, the Bengals came out on top. Looks to me like "deja vu" all over again. Our guys have pride and they'll be hungry to regain some respect. Go Bengals!!!!!

Bengals need to start fresh with a new Kick Off Specialist and new Special Teams Coordinator. Everything else is just patch work.

Just get used to hearing this: Touchdown - Randy Moss!!!!
You'll probably hear it a few times on Monday night

So many people in this city know nothing about football, but they have all the answers. For what Marvin has to work with he is doing a great job. He should get a lifetime contract. The Bengals will win Monday night.

I think I'm going to have an adult beverage this evening which will prompt me to drain my Steely McBeam all over the Partiots... At least the Bengals mascot doesn't resemble Bill Cowturd.

New England's biggest decision is rather or not to have the punter active this week. Why waste the air fare. Leave the punter in New England they won't use him.

Notice how Belichick is asked questions directly about the cheating thing and he just never answers them. Pretty soon people will stop asking him cause they know his answer. That is pure stonewalling genius.

You know what....After that VERY difficult loss to Seattle, I was very down on OUR TEAM! However, after reading ALL THESE negative comments, makes me feel really bad for doubting OUR TEAM! For those of you with ANY MEMORY LEFT, think back to the days when the norm was a 3 - 13 season, and THANK MARVIN AND COMPANY for the success!!! BE A TRUE SUPPORTING FAN OR MOVE TO PITTSBURGH!!!

Ive watched all 3 Patriot games this year on my dish and I don't believe I have missed one play. This team is so scary, so flawless. I have never seen a team like this in my 25 years of the NFL. San Fran in the 80s or the Cowboys in the 90s would be crushed by this Patriots team. The only way the Patriots will lose a game this year is in game 15 or 16 when everything is clinc, becausehed Nrady and company will have very limited playing time or everyone on this team gets sick from a flu bug. Spygate? Cameragate? So what! Poor Bengals it's our turn. Pats will score close to 50 points or so against our sorry defense. Pats 48 - Bengals 10.

Cheaters? Give me a break. Every team in the NFL does (or did) the same stuff, to one degree or another, just not as brazenly as the pats. That doesnt begin to explain how good this team is. So stop whining about it and lets worry about Monday night.
