Rudi iffy; Bengals sign DeDe Dorsey

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said this afternoon that tailback Rudi Johnson (hamstring) might not be available Monday night for the Patriots.

Johnson has played in 64 consecutive games, dating back to Game 4 of 2003. Johnson has made 53 starts in that stretch. He is one of the most dependable running backs in the NFL. He led the league with 1,039 rushing attempts in the three seasons 2004 through 2006.

The Bengals just announced they have signed a former 2006 college free agent running back, DeDe Dorsey, who spent the 2006 season as a special teams player with the Indianapolis Colts. Dorsey was waived on Sept. 1, the day after he played in the final preseason game at Paul Brown Stadium with the Colts.

Dorsey suffered a turf toe injury in that game but has been cleared to run and practice.

"I'm experienced," Dorsey said a few minutes ago. "Nothing can take the place of experience. ... I feel more confident than when I was here."

To make room for Dorsey, the Bengals waived Clifton Dawson, a rookie running back from Harvard.

Lewis also said he expects middle linebacker Ahmad Brooks (groin) and center Eric Ghiaciuc (thumb) to be back for Monday night. Left guard Stacy Andrews has a shoulder injury and "has an opportunity to play," Lewis said.

Like Johnson, linebacker Caleb Miller might not be available against New England.

Dorsey, who played college ball at Lindenwood, signed a two-year contract. Dorsey played for the Colts last season in 13 regular season games and four playoff games, including Super Bowl XLI. He saw action on special teams and had no rushing statistics.

Dorsey entered the NFL in May 2006 as a college free agent with the Bengals and was acquired by the Colts on waivers after rushing for 149 yards with a 7.5-yard average for the Bengals in preseason.

Whew! That's a relief! For a moment I thought we were in trouble!

Just what we need another player who can't catch a ride with any other NFL team. I didn't see anything great about him in the preseason game. Somethings got to give before long or we will be at the bottom of the conference at the end of the season, again as we were through the '90s.

We have been losing the close ones. An average of less than a TD the last 10 loses. Less than 4 points if you eliminate the 18 point loss to the Colts last year. We can still turn this season around. Consistency and preparation are key! Whatever happened to the "Do Your Job" mantra the Bengals lived by in '05. It worked then!

Was it just me or did it seem like they finally started running the ball when Levi was in the game. He has to play they paying him to much to set on the bench.

There should be surprise as the state of our defense and special teams given the players we let go during the off-season with no replacements . . . I believe the strategy was for the "younger" folks to step up? (and for Mike Brown to save more pennies!)

If DeDe is the one who will bring us the experience we are clearly lacking, then God help us!

For past and present day models for success please see Patriots and Steelers (defense/special teams FOCUS) and watch them kick our butts this year.

The Bengals didn't start running the ball when Jones started getting reps, they started running the ball when Watson started getting reps. The guy looked so good in the fourth quarter, I couldn't believe it. None of those runs were slow-developing sweeps, which make the 2-point call, not that it really mattered, all the more difficult to understand. If Rudi can't go, I say the Bengals are better off.

It's beginning to look like a 3-12 year in Bengal-land. Bad coaches and bad luck with injuries to the running game and of course our lovely suspended assortment of criminals adds up to another season LOST OUT OF THE STARTING GATE.

It's looking like an acutely cursed year for a team chronically cursed with really stupid coaches who can draft for talent but not for character and who can build a great offense and an adequate defense but then call really pathetic plays, design lousy game plans, and bungle time-outs, challenges, and the clock over and over and over and over and over again.

Maybe next season the Bengals will find a few new coaches who can actually coach DURING a game, and get the criminals traded for some quality players who aren't immature babies who think that the world revolves around them?

Hah! Don't bet on it.

Hey all you nay-sayers. Its early in the season so how about a little positivity or move to Pittsburgh. We get both Perrys, Jeanty, Brooks and HENRY back in a few games to play our weak 2nd half of the schedule. There is plenty of time. Not to mention as long as we have #9 at QB we have a chance to win every game. WHO DEY!!!
