Lewis: No Chad trade offers

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, in a pre-draft news conference this morning, said the Bengals have not received any trade offers, including one from the Redskins for their first-round pick this year and third-round pick next year, for disgruntled wide receiver Chad Johnson.
The 2009 pick could elevate to a first if Johnson were to hit performance incentives, according to ESPN.com.
"Errant," is how Lewis described the report of the trade offer. "I don't think Mike Brown received a call."
"No," Lewis said again when asked if Brown had received any trade offers.
"In don't think anything has changed. We're going to go through and not be concerned," Lewis said when asked if Johnson's threat to not to play would affect the team's draft plans. "I think he has made it clear he's not going to play, and that's what I've been aware of since the end of last season. I think it's time to do what you say you're going to do, and we'll move forward.
"He has a contract through 2011. He stated, without an opportunity to go to another team with a new contract he wasn't going to play. I think he's a man of his word, and says he's not going to play, so don't play."

What is not being said, which is concerning:
I was wondering (this morning) why there has been no response from Carson, after basically being called a "liar" by Chad Johnson. Then I began to speculate that this is all orchestrated and so no harm to Carson, by refuting his quotes b/c Carson is in on what the response is going to be. Then we get this soft response via Bengals.com, " Quarterback Carson Palmer, who unintentionally got in the middle of L'Affaire Chad last week when Johnson ripped Palmer for saying he would be here when he had to be, avoided saying much Tuesday.
'I take it with a grain of salt,' Palmer said. 'I've always been a forgiving guy,' and he still would like Johnson to come back because he's been such a good player."
This not what I want to hear from the needed leader of the "team"...that is, "any" football team. Which leads me to just another confimation of the word that I have heard...."Carson wants out just as bad as Chad" he just doesn't voice it. The quote above shows that he is leaving himself an out in the event he turns his back on the Bengals.
As far as the possible trade that is repeatedly denied discussion, I find it hard to believe the Bengals can value the continued circus vs. needed fresh players. But then again(in regards to both Carson and the trade we all wish for), history reminds all of us Bengals fans of the dreaded "BOHICA" = Mike Brown's continued ineptness. More simply stated, "Bend Over Here It Comes Again".
Are Marvin and Mike Brown nuts? You have Chad screaming like a little child, obviously a locker room cancer, and still the Redskins are offering good value in trade for the disgruntled receiver. With the 21st pick, you can still get Malcolm Kelly, or any other highly rated receiver and not have to worry about spending the #9 pick on anything other than a defensive player. Sure, the Bengals take a hit in the salary cap, but Brown is already the king of cheap. That money is already gone. Why would he care if the money would count against the cap? It saves him money this season.
Plus, the Bengals would get a good 3rd rounder next season when we should also get another 2-4 compensatory picks for losing Justin Smith and M. Williams.
The more I think about this trade, which every other news agency is reporting as fact, the more I like it. Get rid of Ocho Cinco, and move on.
Mark, you are close to the organization. Off the record ofcourse, is Mike Brown negotiating with Washington and Dallas for 1st and 2nd round picks this year and another pick next year?
I have a friend with a source inside that says the Redskins are close, but don't want to give up multiple picks this year! And, MB is holding firm, that if he does trade Chad (even though denied in the media) he would only do it for 1st and 2nd this year!
My friend thinks it might happen, because Jerry Jones doesn't want the Skins to get him, and with Dallas having 2 1st rounders, they might slip in there with their 1st (#22) and a 2nd this year.
Are Marvin and Mike Brown nuts? Take the trade. Get rid of the cancer that has become of Ocho Cinco. Use the 21st pick on a highly rated receiver. Keep the #9 pick for a defensive player. Use the 3rd/1st rounder next season along with the compensatory picks we will get for M. Williams and J. Smith and completely rehaul this team. And this trade is being confirmed through multiple news agencies. Snyder wants it done so badly he is willing to give good value for a player who whines like a 3 year old child.
The Bengals are undisciplined and uninventive. These picks this year and next will allow the team to reload on the run, and even help them reach the playoffs by next season at the least.
Hello, the "source" cited for this report is clearly Drew Roesenhaus. This is a typical ploy to try and fool the fans into putting presure on the team to move Chad. This is not a realistic offer that only a fool would believe. T.O. was had for a number 2nd rounder, Randy Moss for a 4th, and we are supposed to believe that someone really feels Chad is worth 2 1st rounders. If you buy that I have some lovely swampside property I'd love to sell you.
I, for one, am enjoying how Marvin Lewis is handling this Chad thing. 85 and his agent for whatever reasons decided they were going to exert their will on the Bengals. 85 isn't being rewarded for kicking and screaming in his high chair, which these days is rare.
The only thing worse than playing for the Bengals as far as 85 is concerned is getting zero attention while the '09 season marches on.
For Coach Lewis the positives outweigh the negative as he will likely gain more respect in that locker room. The Bengals really do hold all the chips here and they are letting that vampire agent and infant 85 know it. Nice.
James, Scott, I agree completely. I like the way the Bengals are handling this. And I like Carson's response. It makes no sense for Carson to berate Johnson in the media, because everyone who is following the story already knows that Johnson contradicted himself. Good leaders have to rise above the stupid stuff.
I would be surprised to see the Bengals draft or trade for ANYONE who is represented by Rosenhaus in the future. It is sad how many of his clients make themselves look like fools. Now Jeremy Shockey wants to be traded: "Shockey, 27, threatened to sit out the upcoming season ... and feels his career is being cut short by all the blocking he has been asked to do ..." THE NERVE OF SOME COACHES - ASKING A TIGHT END TO BLOCK!
I say kudos to Marvin Lewis over how he is handling this. It is just plain ridiculous to let a player extort his team like this, and this is a plain and clear pattern by Chad's worthless agent. The bottomline is that Chad is under contract, one he signed just two years ago, that makes him one of the highest paid receievers in the league, so Marvin rightfully expects that he will either honor that contract or Chad will not play for anyone and not get paid.
Cincy fans, it sucks that it is the Bengals that are forced to FINALLY stand up to Drew Rosenhaus, but that is the lot that the Bengals have been cast in, so lets support the Bengals for FINALLY saying enough is enough Drew, your players need to honor their contracts, and no matter how much you want ANOTHER 10% out of your players BEFORE their contracts are up, you just have to wait until the ORIGINAL contract you let your player sign, is up for renegotiation.
This is just TO all over again, and folks it is no conincidence that this is the exact same senario as before. Drew wants more money, so he poisons his player to the team that gave him a HUGE deal, in an effort to get a new even bigger deal SOONER than he is entitled to a new deal. Then Drew floats rumors that there is actually interest in the player, which then ratchets up the pressure from the FANS to let their outcry force the team to renogotiate years sooner than they are contractually obligated to renegotiate, or the team is forced to trade the player to a team willing to give said player a new huge deal before that player has contractually earned that new deal.
So Bengals fans I plead with you, see through your hate for the Bengals, see through your hate for Mike Brown, and see through your hate for Marvin Lewis, and STAND UP TO DREW ROSENHAUS. Please actually SUPPORT the Bengals in this endeavour, because like it or not the Bengals are the GOOD guys in this situation, and the Bengals for a change are doing the RIGHT thing.
BENGALS FANS DON'T BE DUPED INTO BECOMING AN ACCOMPLICE TO CONTRACT EXTORTION BY A CROOKED SPORTS AGENT!!!!!!
FANS DO STAND UP AND SUPPORT THE BENGALS IN THEIR RESISTING THE EXTORTION!!!!!!
This is bigger than the Bengals people, this is a fight to prevent this from happening to the next NFL team that has the next Drew Rosenhaus client, that doesn't deserve to have a new contract, where Drew tries to extort that new contract.
I agree with D-Rod, as much as there are plenty of folks who keep saying "if we can get a ___ draft pick(s), trade him, for the good of the team", I believe by Marvin keeping his foot firmly on the spoon banger's throat he is doing something even better for the good of the team, he is regaining control and respect in his locker room, which he had unfortunatley allowed to be usurped by Mucho Stinko for too long.
Can't agree with concept of Marvin taking control, now. He had too many chances and passed. It's easy when Chad _hits on the team but he needed to do it when Chad merely "got out of line". Marvin's firmly established himself as a wimp.
