From Bengals PR:

The Bengals’ 2008 schedule, released today by the National Football League, features a rigorous first half. Four of the first six games are on the road, and four of the first seven are against 2007 playoff qualifiers.

The home opener will be on Sun., Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. against Tennessee, an ’07 playoff team. The Bengals posted their most lopsided win of ’07 in a home game against the Titans, prevailing 35-6. Cincinnati starts the season on the road for the fourth time in the last five years, facing Baltimore at 1 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 7. It marks the second straight Bengals season opener against the Ravens, following a wild 27-20 Bengals win at Paul Brown Stadium in last year’s lid-lifter.

Road games at the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys stand out during the opening six-game stretch.

The Giants game, on Sun., Sept. 21, will be only the second Cincinnati match in the last 10 years against a defending Super Bowl champion from outside the Bengals’ division. The Bengals have held their own in their last 15 games overall against defending Super Bowl champs, showing a 7-8 record.

The Dallas game on Oct. 5 will be the featured doubleheader game on CBS, with a Cincinnati kickoff time of 4:15 p.m. The Cowboys tied for the NFC’s best record last season at 13-3.

"As always, it’s exciting to receive our schedule, and we know the challenges right from the start,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “We have a division opponent on the road, the home opener against a young playoff team in Tennessee, and then the defending world champions."

Barring possible changes due to flex scheduling, Cincinnati’s only night game will be at Pittsburgh on Thursday, Nov. 20 -- a week before Thanksgiving -- at 8:15 p.m. The game will be aired on the NFL Network, and will also be simulcast by a local Cincinnati station yet to be determined.

"Battle of Ohio" games against Cleveland are scheduled Sept. 28 at Paul Brown Stadium and Dec. 21 at Cleveland. The Bengals lead Cleveland 35-34 in the all-time series.

The Bengals will close the season at home for only the second time in the last five years, hosting Kansas City on Dec. 28. Though they are not in the same division, the Bengals and Chiefs will be playing for the fourth consecutive year.

good, we don't deserve to be on Sunday or Monday. Maybe we will play like we do for once.....

I like the fact that nearly all their games are Sunday 1PM games, and the fact that they almost hold to a pattern of away, home, away, home. Might be good to have that much consistency.

I say 7-9. That may even be a little optimistic depending on how the Chad Johnson situtation shakes out.

That schedule is terrible. After the "bye" every game is home, away, home, away, home, away, home, away. Every team deserves at least a 2-game home stretch.

Mark the schedule gives an asterick to the 2nd Battle of Ohio as a potential flex game. As the Clowns already have 5 prime time games aren't they maxed out for the season for prime time?

Again, there are so many factors up in the air that predicting a record is difficult.

-Chad Johnson...who knows?
-Who replaces C. Henry?
-Does Rudi return to form?
-Do we get any help from C. Perry or K. Irons?
-Will we get a meaningful D tackle?
-Will Odell finally contribute?
-Will Ahmad finally contribute?
-Can our young safeties keep it up?

Depending on how these factors turn out and how we draft, we could range from 6-10 to 11-5?

My guess...which is usually safe for who dey...another disappointing 8-8...you know the kind where we are 6-8 and then get to 8-8.

whodeynyc,

I couldn't agree more,,, with one exception. Rudi. The O-line HAS to do some "road graving" for Rudi or anyone else in the backfield to be effective. How important was the losses of Braham and Steinbach? You can't blame Mike Brown for not attempting to sign Steinbach at $35 million. I haven't read or heard any kind of update on Irons. One other thing, who is going to be the nickle corner? I don't have much faith in Deltha anymore.

I think the Bengals deserved at least 1 home primetime game. The NFL is really banking on the Browns to be good by giving them 5 primetime games (4 at home, I think).

I guess the NFL assumes Derek Anderson was not a fluke and Jamal Lewis is not old.

Sorry, I had a "mental" moment. As far as the schedule, we all knew who our beloved Bengals were going to play. I hate to say it; 9-7 or 8-8. My determination is based on so many factors. Actually, whodeynyc stated just about all of the factors. CJ is the "X" factor.

lets just hope this season is better than last season.

The offseason moves don't have me to excited,I would like to be proven wrong, but when you have a defense that is ranked worst among NFL year in & year out & you don't address it.Guess what is doesn't fix itself.2 new coaches in Zimmer & the guy from ravens, whoppedoda.Without talent it does not matter who's coaching.I though ML was a defensive Guru,I haven't seen anything in his tenure here at cincy that proved that.

look everyone,I Know nobody wants to hear this but a DE thats good but has not proved he's great, a backup TE that has potential,& two LB scrubs from AZ is not enough to patch the holes.there are some big holes that need to be fixed, yet all I see a team that is to cheap, inept, & clueless in how to fix it.

If the two LB's were such great pickups why didn't Wissenhunt resign them.I'm sure as a ex- Coach from Pittsburgh,he would know what to look for in stud LBs'.

5-11 is was I predict.Love to be wrong though.

Wow... I actually agree with what you just said. Although i will have to say that Wissenhunt was an offensive coach so i dont think he would be one to completely judge the linebackers. Never the less, if these linebackers where any good and after already losing Pace wouldnt you think that they would want some cheap talent if they were really a steal. Then again if you think about the only organization more inept than the bengals... its the cardinals. I think that having good coaches really does help though. they may be able to scheme better to the certain players capabilities.

Anyways, i do like the schedule. For some reason i like the 1:00 games the best. I dont like sunday or monday night football. I also kind of like the idea of the home, away, home, away part. (dont know why. i guess its cause i wont have to think as hard.) Anyways, bengals are going 9-7.

Carson Palmer will be 15-1 though (he will still play for the bengals but he is just that good. Dont ask me how it is possible)

I think we will have to wait untill after draft day to see if they shore up the defense. I would rather get a stud that way than to overpay for a run down free agent past his prime.
I think Reddlegg is wrong about Utecht. He is a starting TE on almost any team in this league. He is kinda like TJ where if there wasn't a top 5 guy in front of him he'd be the starter.
I think the bengals will be 10-6 and will benefit from the lack of spotlight on them.
I for one think Cleveland is overated.

Well, could go either way. I'm pretty much like "whodeynyc", could be 6-10 or 11-5. Much depends on the draft, who they get and when.

Somebody help me here, why is it better to have many picks, which might not be as good, instead of trading up to get a serious stud, like say, oh, I don't know... Glen Dorsey? He looks like a guy that could help us big time for a long time. But, we'll never know because we'll keep our 5000 picks and draft a bunch of players that won't play much or will get cut (or should get cut). My mini rant here is over. However, if someone can help me I'd appreciate it.

Mike from whereever(twice)-

My point about KW from AZ , was sure he was a OC. But when the team practices(Pitts) he had to see all the talent against his Offense.Being a judge a talent is one thing.but seeing it 4-5 days a week in practice teaches you about what to look for.

That's like ML was DC,but he has to know what to look for in Offense.

It's called being a Head coach. They have to know talent regardless of their coaching roots, weather it's Defense or Offense. That's the whole point of coaching.

Marc,

If you are a perennial playoff team, with no glaring weaknesses, then it might make sense to trade up to get a "serious stud."

If you are a team with needs at multiple positions, then you want to get as many draft picks as possible.

Why? Because high draft picks are not foolproof. If you have been following the Bengals for a while, you will recall some "serious studs" that the Bengals drafted that turned out to be average players or worse (David Klingler, Dan Wilkinson, Ki-Jana Carter, Akili Smith, etc.). It's not just the Bengals, either - many high draft picks just don't become great NFL players (David Carr, Courtney Brown, Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf, Robert Gallery, Charles Rogers, etc.).

Now, look at some of the players the Bengals have picked up in the late rounds:

T.J. Houshmandzadeh (7th round)
Doug Pelfrey (8th round)
Tim Krumrie (10th round)
Bob Trumpy (12th round)

The bottom line is, right now the Bengals need starters and/or depth at multiple positions, so it makes sense to keep all or most of their picks.
