Bengals Mark Curnutte offers the latest on the Cincinnati Bengals
Mark Curnutte started covering the Bengals and the NFL for The Enquirer in 2000. He previously wrote about urban affairs and other social issues for the Enquirer. He won the prestigious 1994 Unity Award from Lincoln University (Missouri) for "A Polite Silence," a seven-day series about race relations in Greater Cincinnati. He also has worked as an assistant features editor and features writer at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. Curnutte is second vice president and a three-year board member of the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA). He is a 1984 Miami University graduate.
The club waived third-year pro Nick Turnbull this morning, a day after using one of its two sixth-round draft picks on Appalachian State safety Corey Lynch.
An observation: After seeing the Bengals get scorched by the national media who are trying to "grade" each team's draft, I wonder if the Bengals took the very same players, but they took Caldwell in the 2nd round and Simpson with the second pick of the 3rd round — would the "grade" be higher?
I have to believe that the Bengals are simply the punching bag of national media, noting that you can't possibly grade a draft class the day after it's picked.
Mark, I know the draft is overhyped, overexposed, and waaaay overdone...but this is the only news from Bengals' land? It's a blog, so topics people wanna talk about tend to do better. That said, I hope the guy finds a job in football somewhere else.
if you dont think the bengals are better off with rivers and sims opposed to just ellis, do more research supposed experts. last time i checked the bengals need depth. thats what they have now. at least at wr, lb, and dt. show me a team with this much talent at wr (chad or no chad). they are damned if they do damned if they dont. this draft didnt have that picked that made you ask why ( a la jeff rowe)? better job this year. cant wait 130 days
