TE Sherry at No. 207
With the 207th overall selection, their second pick of the second round, the Bengals selected Villanova tight end Matt Sherry. He is almost 6 feet, 4 inches and 250 pounds. He had 37 receptions for 461 yards and five touchdowns last season.
He was team captain at Villanova last season. So were Bengals first-round linebacker Keith Rivers at Southern Cal, second-round wide receiver Jerome Simpson at Coastal Carolina and fourth-round wide receiver Andre Caldwell.

I don't understand this pick nor the R5 (Shirley). We just don't need a TE. What about Washington a RB, which we need or a return specialist. This seems like a wasted pick to me. And Shirley??????? Otherwise, I think we've done well. I'd rather have Rivers & Sims than just Ellis.
Caldwell can return kicks, and we do need another tight end.
I don't have any real problems with the draft so far. Sherry will push Coats for the 3rd TE spot. They have filled most of their pressing needs coming into the draft. I wish they would have drafted a return guy and maybe a center but you're not going to get everything you want. Before everyone buries Jerome Simpson I suggest you look at the tape on the guy. He has a lot of skills and good measurables. Also, TJ is a free agent after this season so really drafting two wideouts makes sense. I know people say they need a RB but why? We all agree that Dorsey and Watson will make the roster. The only question right now is whether the other guy will be Johnson or Perry. And maybe Kenny Irons will be avaialble sometime this season. The Bengals already have plenty of running backs. The problem last year was continuing to play Rudi when he was injured and averaging 2.9 yards per carry.
The Bad News Bengals are at it once again...I am fine with not giving up the farm for Ellis, but how could they not trade up to get James Hardy at WR in the second round
My guess is they saw the same tape I did where Hardy liked to watch balls go past him if they were not thrown right to him. There were games on the line where he just let balls drop right in front of him without making an effort.
No wide receiver in this entire draft was worth trading up to get.
Only time will tell if they are any good.
For the second year in a row though I can't believe Bratkowski has a job here, so who knows.
Running Back, Offensive Lineman and Defensive Lineman have to be on the agenda in the mean time either by waiver wire or draft. I would say count yourself lucky if Rudi Johnson gives you anything because he's been done for at least a year, and it takes at least 2 to finish an NFL season.
