Landon Johnson visits Panthers

Bengals linebacker Landon Johnson, an unrestricted free agent, has completed a visit to the Carolina Panthers, two sources have confirmed for The Enquirer. The Bengals remain interested in trying to re-sign Johnson, who has led the defense in tackles three of his four seasons with the team.

Why are they not resigning this GUY!!!! He is the most solid thing we got on defense and its not like we can go about giving it away.

This is a player we really need to re-sign. A high character player who plays hard every down and plays hurt. If we could ever get a good D-line in front of him and permanently keep him at WILL(weakside linebacker) I think Landon would flourish. I cannot understand why this is taking so long to do.

Mark...please when you post that Landon Johnson led the team in tackles, take note that it is 5.2 yards past the line of scrimmage which rates LAST of all LB's in the league...

Why didn't Carolina sign him right away if he is that good...because they know he is a special teams player at best and should not be playing in a base defense.

How about a story on what Shuan Smith said to browns fans about Chad Johnson punching Marvin Lewis at halftime of the Steelers playoff game?? It's on lance mcallisters blog.
Unbelievable. He should not be on this team. no wonder marvin doesn't have the respect of the team

Landon Johnson: A pro's pro. Steady. Consistant. Reliable. A Dying Breed (quiet & lets his play do the talking). A Warrior!! Leader (special teams)!! Dude, you've had a number of shoulder problems! Let's see,,,,,, You play linebacker too and you play with shoulder injuries!! WOW!! How many tackles do you average a year? Landen, YOU are the man!! Always the underdog! After what the 49er's paid Justin Smith, you also be greatly underpaid!! Get what you can, Bro!! It's a shame the rest of the NFL can't take your lead and "Just Play the #&%@! Game!! I will always root for you where ever you go?

Obviously the Bengals need defensive help, and lots of it. But are we going to start seeing any talk of "change", or at least tweaking, on the offensive side? Last I checked, the Bengals offense lost them at least two, if not three games last year. We have a stale offensive coordinator, who of course was retained, a slow and banged up RB, with two backups coming back from season-long injuries, a malcontent at WR whose stats contain zero substance, and no productivity at TE. Not to mention a C who has yet to prove he can make all the right line calls. Yet here we are, month 2 of the offseason, and not a thing has been done about this offense, an offense that, again, cost this team 2 to 3 games. Hello??? Is anyone awake at Paul Brown Stadium? This organization drives me nuts. Love Carson, love TJ, (please Chad, take your hollow stats and go away!!), but this offense is stale and needs an infusion of speed, youth and desire. Not to mention a new OC!!

The Shaun Smith video is on sportingnews.com. Smith says he was there when it happened and that he saw it happen. Smith says, "he swung on Marvin. He swung on Marvin. You can see in Marvin's press coference after the game where he got hit by his left eye. Then he tryed to go after the receiver coach, Jackson."

Where is the follow up on Shaun Smith's comments?

Mark, any known interest in Takeo Spikes now that he has been released? He'd be a perfect fit for a one or two year deal if we lose Landon. Probably just as good as Landon, and serves as a bridge to a better long term player, which I don't think Landon is ever going to be.

Where have you guys been? We heard about Chad's antics a few days after the playoff loss to Pittsburgh.

Why is Smith bringing it up again? Is he pissed that Cleveland just bought themselves two very expensive defensive linemen? Looks like they're really happy with the money they shelld out for Shaun last year.

I agree with Mike, so what if Landon led this defense in tackles over the course of that past few years . . . they are a terrible defense! Jettison some of the non-producers (Williams, Justin Smith, London, Caleb Miller, John Thornton, Dexter, and O'Neal) and load up on young, hungry talent in the draft. It can't get any worse on defense anyway.

As far as rebuilding on offense, I agree. I think they're positioning themselves to either move up for a DT (although after decades of being a Bengals fan, I find that hard to believe) or taking a RB. If we could get a back that could stay healthy and pop a 50 yard run here and there, this offense would instantly be much, much better.

Landon is only 27, so we don't need to start searching for a replacement in the draft anytime soon. I'm glad to see a thread where the majority are defending Landon, finally.

As I, and others, have said, if we finally got a decent dline in front of Landon, and he didn't have to keep sliding over to other LB spots, let's see what he can do now. Yes, many tackles are five yards downfield, what do you expect when your dline can't occupy blockers and couldn't clog a darn drain?

I hope they make a day of signings and get Landon and Ben Utecht in the fold. Maybe the snow will force the Browns into working the phones all day...
