Chris Perry works out; no move yet

UPDATED, 2 p.m.:

Tailback Chris Perry, on the physically unable to perform list since the start of the season, wore shoulder pads and a helmet this morning at practice. He appeared to be practicing but officially did not. Today is the second day he is eligible to practice, under NFL rules governing the PUP list. He remains on the PUP list, coach Marvin Lewis said afterwards.

The three-week window in which Perry can practice without forcing a roster move has not yet begun.

Also this morning, starting tailback Rudi Johnson (hamstring) was on the sideline working out with a strength and conditioning coach. Linebacker Ahmad Brooks (groin) sprinted on the sideline under supervision of another trainer. Linebacker Caleb Miller (back) and wide receiver Chad Johnson (ankle) did not practice. Lewis said Johnson had a sore ankle and was given the day off from practice.

Right tackle Willie Anderson practiced and worked with the starting offensive line: left tackle Levi Jones, left guard Andrew Whitworth, center Eric Ghiaciuc and right guard Bobbie Williams.

Anderson and Jones both said today they would start Sunday against the Jets. Jones said he appreciated the opportunity to keep his job after playing poorly Sunday at Kansas City.

Safety Madieu Williams (back) and tight end Reggie Kelly (ankle) both practiced. Wide receiver Antonio Chatman (hamstring) and linebacker Corey Mays (hamstring) did not.

Official injury report for Thursday:

Did not practice
LB Ahmad Brooks, groin
WR Antonio Chatman, hamstring
WR Chad Johnson, ankle
HB Rudi Johnson, hamstring
LB Corey Mays, hamstring
LB Caleb Miller, back

Limited participation
OT Willie Anderson, knee
S Dexter Jackson, knee
TE Reggie Kelly, ankle
CB Deltha O'Neal, back

Full participation

DE Jonathan Fanene, knee
S Madieu Williams, back

So What? C Perry will play 1-2 games and get hurt again. whooopii !!

Perry will be back? So what? Please tell me what he has done since he became a Bengal. Based on his current stats, when all is said and done he'll make Archie Griffin's career in the Bungal's backfield look like a Hall of Fame effort.

If he were worth anyhting, they should trade him for a linebacker or two.

At this point does it really matter?

Were definitely going to the Super Bowl now that Chris Perry can play.

I can tell who all the brilliant Buck fans are by their Perry rips. When Perry has been healthy he has been great. If not for a poor assessment of his injuries by the staff, he would have been healthy in time for this season

The Bengals 3rd down conversion stats are huge with Perry in the backfield. He will help.........

Getting perry back is absolutely good news. in 2005 he played 14 games and finished second in franchise history for receptions by a rb. Everyone gets excited over kenny watson, a guy who at no point in his college or pro career has effectively run the ball, but chris perry gets no credit because he is from Michigan? WHO DEY

at 10/18/2007 12:29 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is he worth anything? Do you even watch football? Moron. I'm surprised you even knew how to spell Griffen's name. If it weren't for the Bengal's idiot medical staff letting a minor groin pull turn into such a big problem problem you'd know what he's worth.

at 10/18/2007 12:29 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Two years ago he had a spectacular 80-yard run against the Vikings that was called back. Rudi is probably gone after this season.

at 10/18/2007 12:36 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I bet any amount of money that when he was in last year the offense was significantly better. You guys look at it all wrong the defense has to account for a guy like Perry when he is in meaning they can't stuff 8 in the box and double cover chad and TJ. It doesn't matter weaher he catches a pass or runs for 100 yds.

I'm serious, lock this tread. PD claims victory.

Chris Perry, Tab Perry, same story, different position. Both probably worthless at this point. Hopefully I'm wrong. But I doubt it.

How sad it must be to go through life with such a horrible attitude. I know he's hurt all the time but jeez. You must be the life of the party, you remind me of that Saturday Night Live skit Debbie Downer

Great news on Perry. He'll make a welcome addition to an offense needing a 'jolt.' Big win over the Jest (not a typo) this weekend.

Who cares? The bengals suck

He hasn't played in quite a while, so I don't expect much. Anything the Bengals get from him is a bonus. The jury is still out in my mind as to whether CP can take the beating of an NFL game without going on the DL. I would be excited if he played linebacker

I am a big fan of Marvin Lewis and recognize that injuries have played a significant part in the poor start to the Begals' season. However, every time I have watched them, they have seemed rather unprepared, disorganized and unmotivated. Hence, I wonder if Marvin Lewis has taken them as far as it is possible for Marvin Lewis to take them on the road to respectability. Is it time to turn the reigns to someone else now?

Isn't Curnutte the guy who said Brooks would be playing a few weeks ago? This guy's injury report is about as reliable as Marvin's.

What is wrong with Chad and why didn't he practice??? Not practicing on Thursday is never a good sign.

you people are unreal. babbbling about a player that doesn't matter
OCHO CINCO DIDN'T PRACTICE and you want to discuss a practice squad player. STOOOOOPID.

To answer some of the jabs at me and others:

I don't hold something as ridiculous as a player's alma mater against him. For all I care he could have graduated from Taliban U. Being hurt all the time is unfortunate, but this trend does not bode well for him. Did Kijana Carter have Talent? At PSU, yes. In the pros he was a wash out, no matter the reason. Perry has done nothing. He's over-rated and/or mad eof glass. He's wasted roster/cap space.

True, though, that no franchise has every wasted/ruined more talent that the Bengals, hence my Archie Griffin reference. As well, I'm sure no franchise has ever over-estimated and wrongly evaluated talent like the Benglas do decade after decade.

Go Blue!!!!!

Chris Perry is one of the most talented backs in the NFL, right next to Westbrook.

Injuries don't mean a damn thing. Just look at the Vikings Adrian Peterson, he was injured every season at some point at Oklahoma, but now he's running over guys in the NFL.

Perry is going to have the same success this season, MARK THIS STATEMENT DOWN !!!

Anyone need your local lottery numbers while I'm providing the future???

Can anyone guess where this guy is from? Hence the poor attitude.

Is chris perry going to instill discipline within the Bengals football team? I did not realize that perry was a team leader.

Marvin Lewis needs to go. He has lost control of the team. He brought the bengals from below 500 to 500. A better coach is needed to reach the next level above 500.

It's back to the 1990's for me. Thanks to Lewis and the bengals I have Sunday afternoons free again to be with my family. Thanks Marvin Lewis for being a family man.

Yeah, your weekends are free because you're done with the Bengals, but your weekday afternoons are taken up reading blogs about them. Get a life.

Chad will play, no doubt. It's football - he's dinged up.

Hopefully Perry can come back sometime soon, but there's no point brining him back prematurely.

You're a great fan! I'm sure you were a huge fan in 05 but now that they aren't doing good again you bail. I'm sure if they get good again you will come back, you just live by the philosophy, when the going gets tough, quit. I bet with that golden attitude you moved right up the corporate ladder all the way to middle management. Loser. Just do me a favor, if the Bengals ever get good again and the bandwagon comes around, just stay off.

The healthier the Bengals are this Sunday, the better. Because when the Jets dismantle them, then there won't be any Lewis apologists left. This head coach and his staff have been given plenty of chances to show that they're better than average, and they're plainly average, at best.

How many time outs and seconds will be mismanaged this Sunday? Marvin Lewis is an awful game-time coach.

Jets 38 Bengals 35

Rudi Johnson on the sidelines? Hmmm...You guys think the RB tandem will be like last week again, where Watson will get the majority of the touches?

I certainly hope so, considering Watson's 5.2 vs Johnson's 2.0 yards per rush avg.

Did I read correctly in an article
on the Enquirer that Chad Johnson
calls Carson Palmer by the racial
slur "snowflake"??
You have got to be kidding me.
Time for a major flushing out on
this team. Johnson has become a
major problem.
Snowflake is a racial slur. period.

Any coach with common sense should start and stick with Kenny(k-watt) Watson. He is healthy, he has practiced and he has produced solid numbers. Start Watson and feed him the ball 20-30 reps...

Tank Johnson is allowed to practice...no word on Chris Henry?

How long is Go-to-dell's unchecked power (and perhaps anti-Bengals bias) going to go unscrutinized by the Cincy media.

Here is a guy who had his bodyguard KILL some one. No reduction of the suspension, but he gets to prepare. Other guys have got their suspensions reduced by a few games.

Where is Odell with his legal case? C'mon, Mark...dig a little!!!

I can stand on the bridge and see who is practicing. What is the story with the Commish and the Bengals?

Perry has had a very unlucky run since being drafted, even he will admit it. Never hurt in high school, never hurt in college, comes to the pros. nothing but hurt. He is a great talent and causes MANY mismatches for defenses, which opens other people up. Even he said at some point his luck just has to turn, hes been making up for all the injuries that he never had i guess. Like another poster said look what Petereson is doing and look how much he has been injured. Perry is a tough SOB and he WILL bounce back and help this team, mark my words. He helps this team more than poeple realize read the article form a couple years ago called "the Chris Perry effect" and you will understand a little more. Call me a homer or whatever but i know the guy... went to highschool with him... he will make his mark hes too stubborn not to. AND TO ALL YOU HATERS... he is a BENGAL now not a Wolverine for all you loser Buckeye fans, dont hate him now for how he spanked your asses a few years ago GET OVER IT!!!

GO BLUE!!! GO BENGALS!!!

What the hell do you mean Word on Henry? He's suspended for the first 8 games of the season. This week we play game #6. Too bad you slept through the "addition" portion of your Cincy public school education!

Jets 40, Bengals 27

Pennington will look like Tom Brady here on Sunday.
