Playoff longshots

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Bengals are 1-4 and have a slim chance to make the playoffs.

Of the 83 teams to start 1-4 between 1990 and 2006, only five have qualified for the postseason.

They are the 1992 Chargers, 1993 Houston Oilers, 2002 Jets and Tennessee Titans and 2004 Packers.

Please do all of Bengaldom a favor and pass a message on to Chad for us. We should all be officially done with Ocho Cry Baby'O. After embarrassing himself and his teammates with his act against the Patriots, he again pulls the same "I'm a 7 year old" garbage this Sunday in KC. Yet again, at one of the more critical points in the game, Ocho Cry Baby'O cuts off his route leading to an interception. For those that wonder, yes it was Chad's fault. Carson does not make a habit of yelling someone's name as he angrily rips off his chin strap. At another point in the game he could be found sitting on the side of the bench with his back turned to the team as he sulked in his ME ME ME milk. Yes, it is cliche, but you CAN NOT go into battle with guys you can't trust. More importantly, guys you can't trust when it's crunch time. Anyone that thinks Carson is not questioning Ocho's grit when the chips are down is fooling themselves. Chad's career has been chock full of highlights, yardage and TD celebrations. One can not argue that he is an inept receiver. You do not accomplish what Rice could not without being very good at what you do. But that's where the comparison stops. Chad likes to reference Rice's name when talking about wanting to be the best. He went so far as to run him down at half time when Rice still played for the Raiders. Unlike Rice, however, Ocho has been nowhere to be found when it's crunch time. Instead of keeping his head in the game, continuing to focus and being there when his team needs him he is busy sulking, complaining or just standing there with this empty look on his face because the offense is struggling. On the other side of the field stands TJ. Angry, fighting and full of piss and vinegar. When the game is on the line or we need someone to convert a big third down, where is he? It's not hard to find him running his route, being where he's supposed to be and making the play. Most of us probably chuckled when we've heard the sound bites of TJ making the claim that he's better than 85. Thinking to ourselves "TJ, come on. You're good, but you're no Ocho." I, for one, am chuckling no more. TJ's truth is in his play. Ocho's is in his latest sound bite. I choose to stop listening!

I think we now have two cancers on this team. First -- based on the way Carson is reacting to Chad...I think Johnson is a cancer and hurting this team behind the scenes...also it looks like Levi is a cancer too. We spent 40-million on Him :( WHAT IS GOING ON....I CAN'T TAKE THIS LOSING STUFF ANYMORE --- PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP US

If Rudi was only going to rush the ball 4x, why even activate him in the first place. He didn't practice all week and that was apparent yesterday along with the fact that he's apparently still not even close to 100%. What're his odds of playing in week 7 and wouldn't Kenny Watson be the better player to go with until Rudi gets back up to 100%?

Uh, Marc, there is another reason (aside from the 1-4 record) that the Bengals are "Playoff Longshots"--they are a CRAPPY TEAM!

Playoffs! Are we talking about Playoffs! Mark this is a really bad team and they will lose many more games this year. The Jets are a joke, but luckily for them they get the Bungles next week. Blue Adams is a better player than Hall, and Andre Frazier / Schlegel are better than advertised. Why Caleb Miller is still on this team is beyond me.

Clark Judge's worst five teams:

32. Miami
31. St. Louis
30. N.Y. Jets
29. Atlanta
28. Cincinnati

yep, we're back!

Playoffs are held to determine a champion not an end in themselves. This team should play to draft some starting lineman on both sides of the ball that fit the syatem.

Injuries are impossible to avoid when looking to unload responsibility and what is mind blowing is that the injuries this teams lineman suffer from are left over from 10-12 months ago. The absence of healing is the absence of a body able to produce in the NFL.

PLAYOFFS? It's longterm thinking time again...sadly the coach will try to save his career and kill the franchise by not thinking longterm.

Mark - Forget the playoffs, this team will be lucky to win 7 games the way they are going. They need to overhaul the D, and I think Chad and Levi should both be traded for top notch defenders, or high draft picks. Think about it, when we get Henry back, he could be just as dominant as Chad opposite TJ. Also, Watson should be the starter from now on. Rudi can't do anything but go up the middle at 2 YPC.

8-8 is impossible this season

enjoy 4-12 or 5-11 or maybe even 6-10 or 7-9. But if the Bengals play the rest of the season like they did vs. KC, we might even see 1-15.

Lewis is delusional if he's pleased at the Bengals' second half play against the Chiefs.

Can't wait to hear what he thinks if the Jets beat the Bengals.

Miami, Rams, Arizona, and the Jets should be wins for the Bengals. So 5-11 should be possible, 6-10 if one upset happens...

The very best likely is 7-9.

Chad is a jerk. Marvin is a loser.

I've been a Bengals fan since the magical 1988 season and this is, by far, one of the most frustrating years I can recall. Year after year the Bengals struggle on defense and yet fail to address it in the off-season. I understand they like to groom their own draftees and give them a chance to grow into the system. But ask yourself this question: when was the last time a defensive player drafted by the Bengals went to the Pro Bowl? Exactly. To exacerbate the situation, the Bengals appear intent on signing once-great players who are on the downside of their careers. See Ray Bentley, Louis Oliver, Sam Adams, Ed Hartwell, et al. Its time the Bengals gave serious consideration to acquiring marquee defensive players in free agency. I fail to believe that someone like A. Thomas would not have considered the Bengals if they had dangled some of the money thrown away on the marginal Justin Smith or the aging Willie Anderson. Until then, the Bengals will continue wasting away the years of players like Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, Levi Jones, etc.

Isn't that nice. The Bengals played like a team for the 2nd half.
After 4 preseason and 5 games we finally played like a team. That should give us some comfort when were watching the other teams play in the playoffs and going to the Superbowl.

Here's the great fear if you're a Bangals fan. They go 1-7 or 2-6 at the halfway mark and then rally once the season is totally over and Henry coems back. With an easy schedule, Henry and healthier linebackers they might be able to go 5-3 or 6-2 in the second half. But that's what the old Bengals did, tanked and then won a few games at the end to make you think they were better than they actually were. I'm rooting for a collapse at this point so the organization will actually consider adressing the problems on the team.

As long as I'm at it, Marvin has lost this team. If you have to yell at guys to get their attention, they've stopped listening. Marvin has been enabling Chad by putting up with his gold teeth on Gameday and post-TD antics. Chad is very talented but this puts the focus on Chad and not the team. Coaches can't be friends with players, the only relationship that can exist in the NFL is a compensatory one, i.e. you get paid to produce. If Marvin is serious about the future he will get Chad to re-focus on the field and on winning. That might trickle down to the rest of the team.

Or they can continue to play hard for one half of one game.

Yeah, I agree. Marvin has lost the team. At a 1-7 or 2-6 halfway mark, we get one of the NFL's best (and most immature) receivers back, and that should help the offense. But nothing will help the defense during the second half. We're in for a very long last two-thirds of a season that went to hell largely because the head coach has lost his mind.

Your comments are idiotic. I'm just as upset as you guys are, but we are definetly not seeing the same games. I saw Carson try and whip a ball to Chad with Red jerseys all around. Carson is not reading the defenses. Who does he think he is? Peyton? Peyton wouldn't have made a throw like that. I can see why Ocho is pissed and another thing. You would have to be damn near 7'5" to catch some of Carson's passes.

Cinncinati Bengals Playoff Chances according to www.playoff07.com

If the Bengals win the remaining games they will make the playoffs and be a 1, 2 or 3 seed:

1st seed in AFC: probability: 65%
2nd seed in AFC: probability: 30%
3rd seed in AFC: probability: 4%

They currently have a 1/10 chance of making the playoffs.

Probability to win superbowl is less than 100 to 1.

Chris Collinsworth, all 180 pounds of him, was never afraid of taking a hit across the middle when going for, and usually making, the catch.

One player on the current Bengals team exemplifies this type of courage.

His name is T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
