Stat of the day: Third down

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Offensively, with their 1-for-11 showing on third down today, the Bengals are 1 of 18 on third down in the past two games. The Patriots and Chiefs (7 for 16) are now a combined 14 for 28 converting third down plays in the past two games against the Cincinnati defense.

After the game, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said, "What I told our football team in there just now, I thought for the first time this football season we played like a football team in the second half of this game. And though we didn't come out and win this football game today, I thought we made some progress and some signs of a football team, not a bunch of individual guys."

Is it me, or does that sound a lot like Dick LeBeau trying to plug emotional holes as his 2002 team spriralized down to a 2-14 record?

In summary:

-- The Bengals have lost four in a row under Lewis for the first time in his 69 regular season games;

-- They have lost seven of their past eight and 12 of their past 18.

He should be fired by 6 PM today for that comment. He shouldn't even be allowed to board the team plane and they should pack up his office ala Huggs for him.

Pathetic excuse for a coach, pathetic excuse for an team, pathetic excuse for an organization. Today I officially no longer a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals.

To be honest if Dick LeBeau had Carson Palmer during his Bengal's tenure I think his record would have surpassed Marvin's. This team has no fire and plays flat. That is the coaches fault.

Is the Chad Johnson HOF Jacket still funny? Seems like the antics are not translating to winning! Go Browns!

Go Muskies. At least the players at Xavier have some pride in themselves and play accordingly. These "losers" quit in the 2nd quarter. It is one thing to get beat. It is another to completely quit. All the coaches should be fired.

Hopefully they get a new coach and staff for next year....the good and the bad of that is the Bengals will probably have the first pick in the draft again after this disaster year....and again we will hear the excuse "there are a lot of needs to address in the draft"....8-8 will look real good after a fews years of this crap again

I agree with the last poster. Think about it! Most of the best players on the Bengals today were NOT drafted by Marvin Lewis!!! And the one good player who was drafted was the very first pick in the draft, which is hard to screw up (although KiJana and Big Fatty come to mind)

If Lebeau had Carson Palmer, he would have achieved more than what Marvin has achieved. Which is to be a mediocre head coach with no playoff wins, soon to be a sub .500 record, and a team in disarray. Meanwhile Lebeau has a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers...

Fire Marvin and all the coaches now. They have no excuse and the players' preparation, play-calling, and personnel decisions leading to 2007 are all their fault.

While you're at it, trade idiot ocho stinko too.

Once again,a tight-end had a great game against the Bungles. Is this large blind-spot because Cincinnati usually ignores a T.E. as a pass catcher in their own scheme? I shouldn't complain as our T.E.'s had more than 1 catch today. Great teams overcome injuries and poor decisions (personnel and game), this team cannot. Unless more changes come soon, it looks like 2005 will be the best showing for this franchise for a long time to come.

Pathetic team, Pathetic coach, Pathetic owner, just all around pathetic.

Played like a football team? That's a good one Marvin! Did you access Joseph's stash or what? What are you smoking? The Bengals looked like crap the entire game today. What game were you watching?

4-12 season looms.

Lewis's "team" will no doubt find a way to make the Jets look like the Patriots next week.

Pathetic team, pathetic coach, super-moron owner.

Am I talking about the Reds or the Bengals?

Answer: BOTH

I love hearing all the fairweather Bengal fans on this blog! This team has the most pathetic fan base. No wonder Mike Brown doesn't seriously invest in this team. Why should he when he knows that he only has a fan base when the team is in the playoff contention, which is impossible to do year in and year out.

This team needs to take a lesson from the team they love to hate up North, the Browns. Those fans are behind their team in thick and thin. And, no matter the record, which by the way is better the Bengals this year, they are loyal.

Welcome to the toilet of the NFL Cincinnati. GO BROWNS!

You people have lost your minds! So, now that we are losing games again, you think that Dick LeBeau of all people would be able to coach this team to a winning record? I am amazed at how many people are making a scapegoat of Marvin Lewis right now. This team is banged up right now. It seems like they have to change the lineup every single week for various reasons, none of which can be attributed to Marvin Lewis, in my opinion. The injuries are his fault, I guess, just like the suspensions, yada, yada, yada. Puhleeze! Think about this, too...with the Brown family running the show, none of us really have any idea on how much mismanagement is going on at the top. How much of that slack does Marvin have to pick up? We all want the team to win, but you've got to think rationally about the situation as well. No way can anyone who remembers the 90's and early '00's Bengals even give LeBeau a second thought and do it with a straight face! Hell, let's see if Bruce Coslet is available. Gimme a break. I'll still keep rooting for the Bengals, even though this season looks bleak. That's what a FAN does. If you don't feel the same, then you probably weren't a real fan to begin with.

at 10/14/2007 6:33 PM Blogger Mr. Gann said...

Uh, did Bruce Coslet just walk into the room? "We played like a team in the second half". If we are back to the "Lost Decade" Bengals, it's time for a new Head Coach.

I don't blame Marvin entirely, his team isn't that good. But, they kept Levi on the field too long today. They seemed unwilling to let Kenny Watson be the lead RB when it seems obvious he's a better threat than Rudi. Those decisions are his fault.

So what have we learned this year? 1.) The players have completely tuned out Marvin. 2.) Injuries are revealing the alarming lack of depth this team has. 3.)The talent level on this team just isn't very high.

Go Bearcats! Beat Pitt!

at 10/14/2007 6:39 PM Blogger AWB said...

So, according to Marvin, it took the team 4 1/2 games to start playing like a football team? That is a joke. That is completely on the coach.

No depth, no discipline, no intelligence, no leadership. Those are all traits that come from above.

This city is in disarray re: professional sports.

How can you stand to be a sportswriter in a town with completely clueless owners for the major teams?

I know I can't take being a fan.

The Reds and Bungles together are horrible. The city forked over all that many to build not one, but two, brand new stadiums, and since those stadiums were erected both teams pretty much stink to high heaven.

"Last place Cincinnati ..." all you have to do is fill in the blank.

Thank God we don't have an NBA team.

Wow they played a decent second half of a game this year!!!!!!
Good job Marvin! Schelgel and Blue Adams are better than your regular starters.

Levi has become a major malcontent as well. He should be cut for his half hearted attempts to block today. That effort was so lame that it has to be deliberate for a supposedly potential pro bowl left tackle. Money well spent, boys!
How long did Mike Brown put up with the crap this franchise was putting out in the nineties? He doesn't care in the least what product this team is putting out.
There is no hope for thie Bengals, and while I'm at it, the Reds hire of Dusty Baker makes them totally irrevelant as well.
Anyone ready for college hoops?

Wow,
I am shocked at how bad this team is. If they keep playing like this, they are in serious danger of winning only 4-6 games. Maybe things will get better if they get Perry, Henry and their linebackers back.

at 10/14/2007 7:48 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Marven said what he was most proud of is that the Bengals are expected to win every week. So much for that. The Bengals are again a laughing stock. I will continue to pull for them, but as long as Brown is in charge, we will continue to have bad drafts, no GM, little scouting, and high taxes.

at 10/14/2007 7:48 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's not just you Mark! I don't expect Marvin Lewis to trash players in the media, but what's wrong with words like unacceptable, stupid penalties have to stop, fix it or I'm going to fix it for you, those types of things. Is Lewis fearful of hurting someone's feelings?

When I watched Chad Johnson try to pull away from Lewis on the sidelines when Lewis was attempting to correct him, it became very obvious to me that Lewis does not have the respect of some of his players. That's Lewis' fault.

Since it appears that this is yet anotehr "lost" year, I would like to echo a comment I heard on the post game call in show. Next July at training camp, they should bring in a retired drill instructor from one of the services to teach teamwork and discipine to these knuckleheads. Why it takes untile the fifth game to start "playing like a team" is abosolutely comical.

at 10/14/2007 8:18 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I was all set for a well played game even though the Bengals never play well after a bye. So much for hope! Stupidity from A to Z. I watched the Patriots-Dallas game to see what good teams look like. THERE IS NO COMPARISON! The Bengals are exactly where their coaches and players should be - at the bottom of the pile. I am finally ready to agree that ML is not a HC and his Coordinators aren't worth two cents either.

I never thought I would say this, but Marvin has lost this team. It is time to clean house of all coaches and start over. That goes for Bratkowski and Zampese, too. This is another lost season, and hopefully a new voice would be able to get the team headed in the right direction again before the main cogs get too old.

at 10/14/2007 8:26 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually, Mike Brown's failures have caused fan apathy (a nice way to describe insufficiently what most Bengals fans are feeling at the moment), not the other way around. How absurd you are in stating that Mike Brown is somehow punishing fans for their lack of support. You sound as dumb as Brown. Was that you, Katie? Troy?

The Bengals are a joke of a franchise. The fans are entitled to receive competent ownership--that's far different from what Brown & Blackburn's Bumbling Circus have delivered recently.

at 10/14/2007 8:26 PM Blogger Kentucky Scot said...

Some moron below said the Bengals fan base is weak, and that is why Mike Brown does not invest in the team. Hello!! OMG!

While the Brown family owns the Bengals, there is no hope. The Enquirer needs to explain why other franchises do better. Mark Curnutte owes that to Carson Palmer -- a great QB about to be crushed by the mediocre Brown family. I love how the Browns are now better than the Bengals.

Someone in Cincy needs to buy the team from that loser. He is all about money, and he has a price.

Good news! If you want to dress up this Halloween as something truly scary, then just wear a Reds cap or Bengals jersey, no need to get a fancier costume. Both these franchises are bad and getting worse, truly frightening how unlimited the stupidity is in Cincinnati pro sports.

What's Sam Wyche doing these days?

You all are missing the big picture, its not Marvin. Vince Lombardi could be coaching this team and they would never win. Its an organizational problem that starts and ends with Mike Brown. This team never has and never will win while him and his pathetic nepotistic organization is running the show. Boycott Now!!! You know he is sitting back in his chair every night laughing and counting all the money us suckers gave him. Yep, I'm a sucker, got 3 season tickets...wish tehy had a refund policy.

You people are morons and clearly did not play football past high school! Its hard enough to win in this league as it is...not to mention winning with so many starters/key players hurt(or suspended). Marvin and the team will be ok...but not until they get healthy. The difference between the good teams and bad teams in this league is SO marginal...they will be better, but unfortunatly not until they get healthy. I suggest all the arm chair QB's relax....

This is more than just injuries and suspensions. This team lacks discipline, direction, motivation and leadership. The can't start a game with a personal foul and then get another one just a few plays later. That is all coaching.

at 10/14/2007 9:04 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Question bgw: were hurt/suspended players the reason why Steinbach didnt play for us today (and if you think its not that big of a deal just ask Cleveland), is it the reason why we didn't sign any defensive free agents in the offseason? It's the same pattern as the '90's, let our best players go because we don't want to pay them and try to replace them with rookies and other teams cast offs. I am sorry, but you don't need have played football in colleg to figure that one out. Every team has injuries, but when the owner is to cheap to allow you get any depth well you have defensive ends playing linebacker and second string guys starting all over the place even when everybody is healthy. Again, tickets anybody??

This may well turn out to be a bad year. But before we throw Marvin under the bus, let's remember that Belichick's first 4 seasons he was 2 games under .500 (with Cleveland) and had only one winning season. It's too early to say that he's a pathetic coach, etc.

Scouting and better luck with keeping guys healthy would do wonders for this team. Marvin has to work harder than most NFL coaches because he is saddled with weak ownership, but he has done some very good things with the franchise. It is too early to be calling for his job and you don't know who would replace him. Could better ownership provide the team with more depth through scouting and veteran player acquisitions, perhaps. Should we boycott the Bengals because they want to run their lively hood as a business? No, not yet. I would really appreciate owners that were more about winning than merely competing. It isn't fair to fans, players, coaches, or the city not to have a really good team development GM in the front office. I am not giving up my 2 season tickets because of it though. I feel we have a chance to win every week, but we just don't get the breaks or play hard enough to start or finish the games. Let's look forward to a home win against a weak Jets team. 2-4

at 10/14/2007 9:50 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

What happened to Ed Hartwell? We are short linebackers and he is available. The Chiefs converted three third downs of great than 10 yards. What about Tory James? Why did we cut Sam Adams? Kevin Kaesviharn? Brian Simmons?

Our defense needs leadership not to be younger. Chuck needs to go and Marvin needs to run the defense...kind of like Baltimore last year.

at 10/14/2007 9:53 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Whether fans like it or not, professional sports franchises are a business first. They "owe" fans nothing in the way of on the field success. You pay for a ticket, they field a team that plays a GAME. That's as far as the extent of the business transaction between team and fan goes. Aside from a handful of years, the Bengals have never been more than a mediocre team in their entire 40 year history. Aside from a handful of teams this year in the entire NFL, there is nothing more than mediocrity in the entire league, and that's just how the powers that be in the NFL want it. The only thing fans are accomplishing with their emotionally charged childlike rants is getting their blood pressure too high.

Is it just me or does it seem like the Bengals keep getting rooked by the nfl referees, I know they didnt deserve to win today but this refereeing is a bunch of crap ,we all know what happened with the nba refs so maybe its possible in the nfl also. Thats just my opinion.

Some former Division II Football player named "BGW" or whatever, just told the armchair QB's to relax, and then opined on how hard it is to win. Like he knows?

Point being, only an idiot, could observe nearly 20 years of mediocrity and not blame the Brown family. Trust me, BGW - Big Goofy Whoosit - only a former football player could be so mentally slow as to defend the status quo. Do you know what "status quo" means?

I hate to say it, but part of the problem is Carson. Hey, Mark. Want an interesting stat? Look up fumbles before and after the knee injury. He lost 2 in 2005 and & a whopping 7 last year. Lost a few in pre-season.

He may have the most of any QB since the start of last year. Certainly the most of the leagues "elite" QBs.

As a lifetime Bengal fan through the best, and more recent worst of times, I can understand the frustrations with the lack of performance the last 4 games.

Still, I will remain a Bengal fan. Same with the Reds. Give them a chance.

If the Bengals do turn it around; though unlikely this year, I would hope that all the hateful bloggers out there will stick to their statements, and just stay away. Find another team, and move on.

I've seen how the Browns fan base has stayed loyal through the worst of it. I wish we had that same loyalty. The "pathetic losers" are NOT the players, but maybe the fans that talk trash, when they really know nothing about professional football.

It looks like it will be a long year, but I hope the Bengals do get healthy, and perform better. In the meantime, I will watch and cheer for them every week.

A True Bengals Fan....

It is blatantly obvious that Marvin needs to go. Yes, we have injuries and suspensions, etc. You know what, so does every team. And quit complaining about Mike Brown. He gave Marvin money to sign big guys (they just happened to be resigning our own...Willie, Levi, Rudi, etc.) and he also gave Marvin control over player personel.

Personel- Well Marvin let our best yound lineman go (Steinbach) only to give that money to an aging Willie and a farse in Levi. I know Willie is a great guy, but what a bad move...looks like Cleveland and Derek Anderson don't mind.

Before this season our offense was great, and like usual, our defense was horrendous. So what does Marvin do...draft a RB and a QB (Irons and Rowe). Forget LB's, DT's or DE's...let's get more offense to pair up with Chris Perry...another horrible draft pick! What a moron!

He also drafted and did not discipline a bunch of thugs and we are feeling the effects. You can see how frustrated Carson is with this crap. There is no discipline. Every week we have missed assignments, stupid penalties and guys doing their own thing out there. That's all on Marvin. You think Cowher would let that happen? Marvin won't yell at his homeboys...no way.

Don't blame injuries. Marvin had a good run off the success of an offense he didn't put together and he's now getting called out for the farse he is. Take your homeboys back to the ghetto and give us our team back Marvin. In the 90's we may have sucked (like we do now) but at least we had class and accountability.

(and for the idiot who said that wins and losses in the NFL are so marginal...yeah, agreed...but what about getting your a** kicked by the Cheifs (possibly one of the worst teams in the NFL) is marginal...it wasn't even close.

Obviously many problems and a very disappointing team to watch. But, one thing I have noted since game 1 of this season is Carson Palmer's lack of mobility. IN 2005, although never a scrambler, he could move (usually to his right) to avoid the pressure and get off a decent pass or even run for a few yards. Last year, no one wanted him to move or get hit at all.

But this year, you almost have the impression that he doesn't want to move and is willing to hurry the pass to avoid the rush rather than move to gain time. He is only taking short drops on his passes and On eight of the 10 third down tries against KC (one successful), he dropped back to the exact same spot to throw. Other teams are just teeing off on this Bengal consistency.

With the poor line play, the Bengals had better start moving Palmer around if they don't want to get him sliced and diced again this year.

Let's face it: The Bengals are stinking up the place just like the Reds stunk up the place.

If I want to watch quality professional football & baseball in Ohio, I've gotta head on over to Cleveland.

Cincinnati hasn't had any winners in professional sports since the Big Red Machine and that whiny-wicky-wacky, wishy-washy, wimp of a Whyche.

Whether sports franchises like it or not, fans demand entertainment and competency. The incompetency of Mike Brown, decades worth, and the lack of entertainment a bunch of spoiled, arrogant, over-confident, bumbling coaches provide each week, are enough to motivate some fans to find better things to do on Sundays, and rightfully so!

at 10/15/2007 8:28 AM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Apologists for losers (Reds and Bengals) miss a key point: Pro Sports is Entertainment first and foremost. Every year, some team has to finish at the bottom. Give Mike Brown some credit, he has some of the biggest and most entertaining clowns in the entire NFL here. Marvin "moral victory" Lewis is a fascinating ringmaster to watch too. Oucho Stinko runs routs like Harpo Marx and puts on a fine show, win or lose. So can't we all just embrace losing, and not trying our best, and not preparing our best? After all, the difference between that and being successful is just a few injuries, right? Come on Cincinnati! Make excuses for losing! Fall in love all over again with clock mismanagement, kicking field goals on 3rd down, going for 4th and 1 backed up deep in our own territory, using the best vertical offense horizontally, drafting anyone but the best offensive and defensive linemen each draft, running up the middle when your OL can't block, and overthrowing receivers by 10 yards. What better comedy can you find on TV?

Oh my, how is this year Mike Brown's fault? He has compensated these players very well.

How has Marvin gone from king of bengldom to joker?

How can anyone say that the team lacks depth when the team has been playing with its #4 running back in Watson, who is doing well. It's #6 or 7 linbacker in Schlegle who is playing well and with people who were not on the depth chart at all and who are playing because of injury.

Lets see, Chris Perry out, Irons, out, Jeanty out, Brooks out, Miller out, Rucker hurt, will hurt, Levi hurt, Guichek (sp) hurt,
Tad Perry out, Henry out and Joseph out, and I left out others.

One can only expect so much from players third, fourth on the depth chart and others that had to be picked up because of so many injury's.

The team has played the past four games with 4 end 5 offensive starters along with four and 5 defensive starters out or hurt. Meaning 10 second plaers on the depth chart are starting am being substitued by people 3rd on the depth chart. For all of you who don't think the Bengal's have depth, it shows the depth of your knowledge of football.

Some of you need to get your heads out of your butts.

Talk about fair weather fans.

Wow. Marvin Lewis told his "team" that they played like a "team" in the second half! Sweet!

Please.

Firstly, to say that they are playing as a team is arguable.

Secondly, FIRE MARVIN LEWIS. My goodness, after 6 weeks of the regular season, four weeks of preseason, plus training camp, they are just now, allegedly, playing like a "team". I don't care what kind of "personalities" you have on your team, but if you cannot get a bunch of million dollar salaried professionals to play like a "team", you should be coaching elsewhere, or flipping burgers.

I can see it now, after the Bungles get beat by the Jets next week:
Reporter: "Marvin, what's your take on the game today?"
Coach Lewis: "We all put our shoes on the right feet today" Yayyyyyyyy!"
Mike Brown: "Great job, Marv! Here's a contract extension!"

BGW - Give me a break! Good teams overcome injuries, and DON'T have suspensions!
Case in point - New England - they are starting their 3rd string running back.
Quit making excuses. The only thing that will eventually save the Bengals is for Mikey Brown to do the right thing - sell the team to an owner that wants a winning franchise.

The Bengals are a money-making enterprise, and I'm happy for the Brown family. They've gotten and stayed mighty rich.

But it's time to throw away the idea that this is in any way a "professional" football team.

They'll win an occasional game, and we can enjoy that.

Otherwise, it's time to move on and stop expecting excellence. These guys are about money, not wins.

Why did we cut Sam Adams? What about Tory James? Did you watch any Bengal's games last year? It's pretty apparent reading these comments that 80% of you were never Bengals fans in the first place. Everyone's got all the answers to fixing this team. No, Marvin Lewis is not going to fired and he shouldn't. We let Steinbach go because it would've been stupid to pay the 3rd (4th?) best o-lineman on the team that kind of money. I'll take Whitworth or Andrews over him anyday. We did sign defensive free agents in the offseason. Hello, Justin Smith, Geathers, Hartwell, Myers, Kenderick Allen, etc. Some of these players panned out and some didn't. That's life in the NFL. Geathers is a star in the making and his versatilitry is really starting to show. Smith has been on of the most productive and consistent DEs in the league the past few years. Michael Myers has really helped in the DT rotation. Wake up people. Yes, the team has some serious issues. Yes, they do have the potential to be one of the best teams in the league. Why they aren't playing up to this potential? I have no idea and guess what.....you don't either. Speculate all you want about what the problems are, but before you go posting info that either doesn't make sense or is completely false, do some research. While you're at jump off the bandwagon, please. Because a "bandwagon fan" was all most of you were in the first place.

We want Bengals ownership to, go that extra mile, spend that extra money on a marquis free agent to considerably bolster the chances that the Bengals would advance into the playoffs. NFL teams can not rely on the draft alone. Free agency mitigates the risk inherent in the draft.

The Bengals only need 3 things to restore a tradition of winning:

1-Good players with heart
2-A coaching staff with the drive to win
3-Character in both

Today I packed up my Bengals stuff and mailed it to Marvin. I hope they get the message.

I believe Bengals fans & players have been patient with Mr. Lewis. His style has not produced wins - nor is there measurable progress. In a league that covets parity, change can come quickly, but it has to be done through smart player transactions, i.e. draft & trades and free agent acquisitions. Moroever, preparation must be sound in terms of practices & game plans. During the game, coaches must have the savy to make course corrections. I tell you without a doubt Lewis does not have a PASSING score in one of these areas. Bring in a new coach who is more than a figurehead for the NFL's minority hiring policies. He is clearly in over his head. Perhaps he MIGHT be a decent defensive coordinator elsewhere but given the performance of the defense here...even that is debatable.

Lights out on the Lewis era.

The simple fact that Marvin Lewis felt the need to bring in a motivational speaker instead of doing the motivating himself says alot about his ability to prepare his team for a game. That performance after a bye week, with the talent this team has clearly shows that he cannot manage and utilize his players abilities. The fact that Carolina can bring in a 43 year old retread and win an NFL game while we lose with a pro bowl quaterback and receivers is just embarrasing. Its time for Lewis to GO! Mike in Montgomery

will no longer be pileing on chris perry, hey at least he brk's legs, tears knee/ankle to miss all this time. Ahmad Brooks is supposed to play ILB....lol you need heart and balls for that he has neither. Tab Perry plz take your gimpy leg and hip and retire. Levi...we'll see you in another jersey next year "ofcourse instead of trading this unhappy overpaid baby we'll prob give him away to someone for another practice squad kicker!
Celeb Miller, go to Canada and play with other 175LB linebackers, Leon Hall..well if your a Buckeye fan insert insult here. JJ bong hits don't heal foot fractures and no you can't use that as medical marijuana!
John Thorton is no captain but I can think of another 4 letter would starting with C!
Rudi Johnson, plz gain back the 20lbs you lost cause your not any faster but a **** of a lot softer.
The great CP! Carson if your to scared to step into your throws and plant your left foot plz take more time off and get some hair on your berries, Delta O'neal have some damn pride for god's sake, yeah you made a play but only after your teamates got run over for 40+ yrds!
The coaching staff....ahh what coaching staff, the coaching staff were the best years of a player is the year he is drafted and this pathetic bunch of morons can't ruin them. We don't develop talent, we drain it!
It's all good though, we prob will have a chance to pick up some more over the hill street FA's and then draft a QB to convert to SS cause we like our safties to be interchangable, in code that means they both stink equaly well.

Fair weather fans???

The weather related to the Bengals has been like a hurricane, tornado, snow storm, flooding, drought, you name it - for many years now except for the lone playoff year when Palmer got hurt.

Right now I'd settle for a 50 degree day with a little rain.

The Bengals are a terible football team right now guided by a terrible manger - Mike Brown.

His father would be very saddened to see what has happened here under his son's watch.

According to various team websites...

Colts have nine scouts.
Steelers have six scouts.
Browns have eleven scouts.
Packers ahve seven scouts.

Bengals have one scout.

Maybe if Mike Brown opened up the purse strings Marvin and the staff would have better information about questionable players.

Would any of us here, after five years, still be employed if we had not delivered on anything our bosses asked us to do?

Marvin Lewis is fast moving from "incapable NFL head coach" to "complete moron". He should resign before he loses all of his dignity.

And spare all of us the "fair weather fan" crap. You are a complete fool to pay real allegiance to anything having to do with the NFL; an organization finely tuned to do one thing - empty your wallet. I pay many thousands of dollars every year for a product which is being sold by the NFL and Mike Brown. Mike Brown's product happens tototally stink, and I am pissed.

Hey 9:22 am...you're crazy if you think Steinbach was the 3rd or 4th best o-lineman from last year. Willie may have been better, but Levi is just awful (maybe that's why Marvin hasn't played him much this season). Besides, Steinbach is young...you don't pay big money and big extensions to guys as old as Willie...even Willie knew it and was surprised we gave it to him.
Also, Justin Smith one of the best DE's in the league??? What league are you watching? His first sack of the season was yesterday!!! He gets most of his sacks at the end of the half or game when the QB is in a free for all scramble!!! He'd rather bash into the tackle instead of pressure the QB or contain the outside.
I agree with you on Geathers and our free agents. But we're losing because of the mental preparation, the attitude and the horrible personnel decisions. It's not like we're getting beat on close plays...we're getting man-handled on stupidity...blown coverages, missed assignments, running the wrong routes...all that stuff falls on Marvin.
