Bengals sign Dhani Jones

The Bengals' furious makeover of their linebacker corps continues this week.

After a visit with the Bengals, linebacker Dhani Jones has signed a one-year contract with the team and is currently practicing. The Bengals waived third-year linebacker Andre Frazier on Tuesday.

Of the seven linebackers on the active roster, three have joined since Aug. 23, the day the Bengals signed former Redskins starter Lemar Marshall. On Sept. 2, the Bengals signed former Jets linebacker Anthony Schlegel.

Now Jones.

He is an eighth-year NFL player, with 95 games and 74 starts during four seasons with the Giants and three with Philadelphia. In the previous five seasons, he played in all but one of his teams’ games and started all but six. He has six career playoff appearances with four starts, including a start in Super Bowl XXIX (2004 season) with Philadelphia.

Jones played 16 games with 13 starts last season for NFC East champion Philadelphia, logging 93 tackles, and he had 10 more tackles while seeing action in both Eagles playoff games (one start). Jones was released to free agency by the Eagles on April 30 of this year, and signed July 10 with New Orleans. He played in all five Saints preseason games, with two starts, and was released Aug. 31.

It's not expected that Jones would start defensively any time soon. But, like all backup linebackers, he will be plugged immediately into special teams duty.

Of the seven linebackers, one, Rashad Jeanty, remains unavailable after undergoing surgery on his lower leg at the end of the preseason. He is expected back later this month or early in October. The other three holdover linebackers on the roster are Landon Johnson, Caleb Miller and Ahmad Brooks.

This morning at practice, Brooks (groin) and Marshall (unknown) are on the sideline watching.

Also not practicing currently are safeties Chinedum Ndukwe (hamstring) and Dexter Jackson (not known), center Eric Ghiaciuc (thumb) and wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (knee).

Free Odell!

What is up with Odell? Last I heard his lawyers were going to a higher court to appeal the suspension and we haven't heard anything since? The NFLPA hasn't even said anything about this.
He was our best defensive players and we really do miss him game play!

Jeanty's absence is big. Brooks, Ndukwe, and Jackson's injuries are also very troublesome. If they're out on Sunday, the Bengals D may give up 100 on Sunday.

What about getting Earl Everett back, sounded like he had some potential?

If Odell wore a hoodie he would have just been fined money. His problem didn't bring a cloud of cheeting to the game but was a personal demon.

I agreed with the suspensions but in the wake of the "LIGHT" handlings of CHEATING FROM NEW ENGLAND I believe that the suspensions of the players should be lifted.

The Bengals need to just go ahead and forfeit this season along with the Fighting Irish and Wolverines. They have no chance whatsoever of even coming close to a playoff appearance. I wouldn't be surprised if they finished 4th in the AFC North behind the Browns. Wake up Cincinnati, this team is horrible. If it weren't for a decent offense they would be the same team that we all watched lose game after game in the mid 90's. Get ready for a huge wake up call the next two weeks. I predict Seattle rings up 63 on this pourous "D" and I'll go with New England for 84. Those of you I've heard claiming these guys are going 12-4 this year are obviously getting some bad crack down in Over the Rhine.

HA! The Bungles defense is going to benefit from signing a no talent loser who can't even catch on with the Saints. That's laughable. Good luck with that. He might help out if your looking for some crappy acting! Go Bungles! You guys really suck!

Awesome. Another washed up LB to add to the mix. Maybe we can add another big name LB that was great years ago. Greg Lloyd? Kevin Greene? Chris Spielman? Mike Singletary? Heck, I'm sure Lawrence Taylor would suit up for peanuts. Give him a call!!! I'd bet anything he still can tackle better than Caleb Miller.

Odell filed an EEOC charge. The EEOC is a Federal Agency that investigates employment discrimination claims. Should the EEOC find in Odell's favor they could order his reinstatement among other forms of remedy. However, from what I read, Odell's claims sound weak at best. This process takes on average about 6 months for them to issue their decision. His probation violation charge was dropped.

Did he ever appeal his suspension to the NFL?

Big difference between breaking an NFL rule and breaking a state and federal law. Get off your soapbox about New England and start to realize you don't draft thugs with questionable reps and expect them to change. Odell wasted a 2nd rounder and to think he can come back is wishful thinking, wise up!

Unbelievable. Dhani Jones. This move will make no difference whatsoever. One mediocre LB playing on special teams is no different from most others. Bengals fans need to start protesting outside PBS so that Mike Brown really starts to get the message. What others have said on here is true: as long as the stadium is packed and people keep buying Carson, Chad, and Rudi jerseys, Mike will not feel compelled to change.

Maybe Marvin is right. We really all must be complete idiots. If this is noteworthy news and anyone thinks this guy will help the D and/or special teams they're an idiot! Dhani Jones needs to go back to the NFL Network and talk about a game he is no longer capable of playing at a high level.

It's still too early in the season to give up. So the Bengals defense is not exactly the most talented. I agree to a certain point with what most people are saying. But, to give up on the team already? You sound like fair weather fans. Fans who didnt even start caring about the team until Marvin came to town. You forget the days of Jeff Blake, David Klinger, Akili Smith? Those were hard times. You cant be jumping off and then back on the band wagon. If you have tickets; give them to someone who will enjoy them and supports the team no matter what.WHO DEY!

Is this a revelation to you about the fairweather fans? Did you never go to a game at Cinergy/Riverfront in the 90's or PBS when it first opened? The places where half filled at best, and most of those in the stadium were the opposing team's fans except for a Steelers game here where the stadium was sold out and 95% were Steeler fans. The people you are down at Paul Brown stadium with in the last few years in their fake Wal-Mart and pink bengals jerseys, yeah, all those people. I would say that easily 90% are fairweather fans who jumped on the bandwagon a year after Marvin came along. We are already seeing the fallout! Just listen to a sports talk radio station in Cincinnati (if you can stand it for more than 5 minutes), these people are already throwing their so called team under the bus after one awful game. Just wait for another losing season to come along and watch all these people run for the hills. Soooo Long Posers!!!!!!!! This team will be fine, they may not win the super bowl but they still have a shot at the playoff just like anyone ekse. IT'S ONE GAME PEOPLE, GET OVER IT!!

Maybe Marvin should suit up and play! Oh yeah he never did in the NFL. You waive Frazier for this?
In defense of Marvin ...how come the really bad linebackers never get hurt?

Get your Bearcat tickets soon and get ready for a wild ride to a BCS Bowl Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!
