Report: Rucker suspended for opener
Bengals defensive end Frostee Rucker, out currently with a hamstring injury, will be suspended by the NFL from the regular-season opener, according to an Internet report.
Rucker will be suspended for the team's Sept. 10 game against Baltimore, FOXSports.com reports.
"We're aware of the report," Bengals public relations direction Jack Brennan said this afternoon. "But we don't have anything definitive from the league. Until then, we won't have any further comment on it."
Rucker pleaded guilty in May to one count of false imprisonment and one count of vandalism. His plea related to an incident in August 2005 in Los Angeles involving an ex-girlfriend. Rucker was charged with one count of spousal battery, which was dropped as part of the deal. He was sentenced 36 months probation.
Rucker is believed to be appealing the suspension.

The incident occurred in 2005, not 2006, despite what FoxSports.com says.
I would like to hear an explanation from Goodell as to how Frostee gets suspended for something which the NFL was aware of before he was drafted and Odell gets an additonal year for not attending AA meetings yet Joey Porter only gets a fine for having his posse hold down a fellow NFL player so he can whoop up on him.
And where is the video of the assault??? Why hasn't the Enquirer gotten the video from the Las Vegas police???
Seriously, I would like to see Frostee sue over this one. I refuse to believe the NFL can suspend a player for actions which occurred before he was a member of the NFL.
Ditto on that! I wish I could be the attorney for Mr. Rucker.
And Odell??? What a double or triple standard!!!

The "willie nillie" approach by Goodell will quickly lead to a loss of respect for the position. He is overstepping his boundaries and the NFLPA won't stand for this. There simply is no way you can reconcile the different approaches to the Porter and Rucker cases. Rucker should be in the clear and Porter should get at least a game, if not 4.
I have not been arrested or missed a court ordered meeting and thus have no worries about my employer suspending me. Seems like a pretty simple concept really. Stay out of trouble and you have nothing to worry about.

There is a definite double standard between the way Goodell deals with Bengals players and players from every other team. I suspect that may be due to the number of Bengals players that have run afoul of the law. Objectively, however, that should not make a difference. Each incident should be treated on an individual basis. I have a hard time believing that Rucker would have been supended if he played for the Patriots, as apposed to the Bengals.
I feel bad for the guy if he is suspended by the NFL but in realty what has he done for the Bengals. He hasn't even played in a game. Cut him loose.

Yeah, no doubt the NFL is incompetent given the treatment of Frostee, Porter, and Rucker...can't wait to see how fast they let Vick back into the league...probably with a shorter suspension than Odell....
Even a dead pit-bull could do Goodell's job better than that!
On the one hand, why is it so difficult to stay out of trouble? On the other hand, the NFL doesn't seem to be consistent in its discipline policy (i.e. Joey Porter).
