Bengals rounding up undrafted college players

In addition to the likely signing of college free agent linebacker Earl Everett of Florida, various Web sites are reporting a few more signings of undrafted players by the Bengals.

The Bengals team-owned Web site, citing various sources, said this afternoon that Georgetown College quarterback Jeff Smith has signed. Also in the fold now or having agreed to sign are lllinois State linebacker Cameron Siskowic, Hawaii right tackle Dane Uperesa and Brigham Young tight end Daniel Coats.

Bengals PR director Jack Brennan said this afternoon not to expect any announcement from the team regarding college free agents until Tuesday at the earliest. The team would not release even a partial list of possible players today.

I don't hate the 2nd pick, after seeing the drop off comparing the '05 Bengals to the '06 Bengals. I guess where we were sitting at #49. All the best defensive players were taken and the best TE's were taken. After seeing teams like the Chargers, Chiefs, Colts, Ravens tear us up every year in the middle. I don't know what it is. Either our ILB's are slow and weak agianst the middle pass coverage or those teams have awesome TE's. I believe it's both. Know we have to go through countless Undrafted FA's at LB and TE to try to find lightening in a bottle. It worked for the Reds finding Hamilton in the Rule 5. Who knows maybe, but probably not.

The Ohio University sports fan site bobcatattack.com is reporting the Bengals have signed two former Ohio University players: MLB Matt Muncy and CB T.J. Wright. They show no source for the signings, although some of the moderators are close to OU football officials.

I may be alone in this, but I really like the 2nd round pick. I love Rudi, but he does have the speed to break big plays and I think Irons does.

I like the draft - but the linebacker status remains cloudy to me.

Comparing Irons to James Brooks? Brooks was great, and the Bengals typically draft extremely good players in the second round. But Brooks was very talented - and he and Ickey were a great match.

Surprised Everett was not drafted - he sounds like a physical specimen, but not an aggressive athlete for a backer. Hope he shows them something in camp. Saw the Bengals signed the UC guy Pfafsinger (sp). He did some nice things at UC.

go Bengals!
