Pollack: Will decide after Feb. 8
Bengals linebacker David Pollack is working out in an attempt to return to the NFL. He suffered a fractured neck in the second game of the 2006 season.
Pollack has an appointment with his doctor Feb. 8 and said he will fast and pray about his future before making an announcement on a possible return to the field.

I would love to have him back but what keeps him walking is what matters the most. The NFL needs more people like David. I really like the Idea of him playing end as well. That seems to be the only logical option giving his condition. It is risky having a player like that. However, he could make a big impact...
Do What is best for yourself! Who Dey!
Don't make a decision this big on an empty stomach!
Exactly the kind of young man the Bengals should want working in community relations, not risking his life, which is all in front of him.
David Pollack is a great example for kids. I thank God that there are still men like this in sports, that seek after God's will for their lives and are willing to follow it at the stake of their dreams.
We're praying for you, David!
From today's article:
If he is cleared to play, Pollack wants to play defensive end – not outside linebacker.
He did both in college and was able to put on the extra weight to play on the line.
“Hands down, absolutely,” he said. “At linebacker, you have a lot of 5-yard collisions, where the fullback has a head start and a head-on collision. If you’re at defensive end, very rarely do you have a hard collision. You’re 6 inches in front of your target and firing off and hitting your target right there. I’ve made that pretty clear. Special teams would be something I wouldn’t be able to do.
“There are things that, if I get to come back, would be limitations. Defensive end definitely makes a lot more sense.”
I would love to see Pollack back, but ONLY if he can come back as the player he was. From the way he's talking, he's not real sure of taking on full fledge hits, and that is NO WAY to play in the NFL. For what's best for the Bengals, maybe he should just go back to school.
The Bengals need more players like David and fewer like Deltha O'Neal. It is a shame the national media will not cover this; it doesn't follow their prejudice regarding the Bengals as a bunch of law-breaking, whining thugs that will bungle when it matters.
David, you have encouraged so many of us...2 Peter 1:5-7 - what really matters is more than just matter.
YES David !!!
With Fitz, and 3-4 Defense... what are u thinking about Pollack-Thurman-Brooks-Johnson
and Backup Jeanty and Jones
Not Bad...
Trade Chad, Rudi, Justin... and pick 2 DLinemen in the first Round Draft !
I can't believe I have the first negative comment on this blog!
David Pollack is NOT ready to play foootball! Here is the evidence from Mark's article:
"If you're at defensive end, very rarely do you have a hard collision. You're 6 inches in front of your target and firing off and hitting your target right there. I've made that pretty clear. Special teams would be something I wouldn't be able to do."
Limitations on the football field? I don't care about whether he can perform or how. I worry about his HEALTH! His injury makes it so he can't play special teams and shouldn't be a linebacker, but could be DE? Are you kidding? This is a violent sport and he is subject to some very violent exchanges even if he is the KICKER!!
This kid should NOT play football ever again and if he is as smart and articulate as he appears to be, he'll get on with his life's work and leave this dangerous sport forever.
BIG HEART AND SOUL! David, I hope you are able to come back, both for you personally and for this team. But, this is a big deal, and I am not sure its possible, and even if it is, I don't think you could ever be a 100% again. With that said, man that would be huge for this team, both physically and mentally. If we sign a few of our own FA LB, and Thurman and Pollack are back, how strong is our LB corps with Pollack/Geathers rotating DE/LB on the weak side. That would shore up any fears of LB being a weak spot (although I think it is still a strong spot for our team). Thurman has done his time, and if he has matured and is ready, he still is an instinctive and hard hitting LB. If our corps of LB are healthy (you never know in the NFL), but if they stay healthy, and we get a few tough D-Linemen in he fold, you would see a complete turnaround.....
It's a nice story and David is a great guy. However, he has no business being on the field. Heck, he wasn't that good even when he was 100%. I'd love to see him be able to stay with the Bengals in some other capacity, but not as a player. His career was over when he broke hi sneck.
