Writers honor Houshmandzadeh, Robinson

Two members of the Bengals were honored today by the Cincinnati Chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America.

Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh was named by the chapter as the team's Most Valuable Player, and defensive lineman Bryan Robinson captured the organization's "Good Guy" award, given annually to a player for outstanding cooperation with the media covering the team.

Houshmandzadeh is a former “Good Guy” winner and joins offensive tackle Willie Anderson in the category of players to win both honors.

Voters are newspaper reporters from The Cincinnati Enquirer, Cincinnati Post, Dayton Daily News, Columbus Dispatch and Associated Press assigned to cover the Bengals regularly.

This is the sixth year the Cincinnati PFWA has named an MVP. Past winners were quarterback Jon Kitna (2002-03), tailback Rudi Johnson (2004), quarterback Carson Palmer (2005) and offensive tackle Willie Anderson (2006).

Robinson becomes the seventh "Good Guy" recipient. Lorenzo Neal, Anderson, Brandon Bennett, Brian Simmons, John Thornton and Houshmandzadeh earned the distinction from 2001-06.

The 2007 season was not as hopeful as Cincinnati Bengals fans would like, but with players such as TJ Houshmanzadeh on our team, we have the chance for a brighter future! At (numerous)times the past few years we flickered the light of greatness, but have been overshadowed by arrests, losses, and injuries. The character and integrity of TJ, Carson Palmer, Willie Anderson, Madieu Williams (ex. community service/foundation)and others, combined with a relentless and emerging inspiration of a "MONSTER" attitude (Mr. Marvin Lewis), and toughness are the ingredients for success! We have the talent, we have the fans, and I can't wait (like the rest of Cincinnati) for the Bengals to claim their glory!

Great job #84 TJ on your award, you articulated on and off the field how one should play, act, and perform! Keep up the motivational leadership, and inspirational passion! Don't ever lose that, it truly is contagious!

Sincerely,
Brian Siegel

I'm sure the "Good Guy" trophy will end up in the local land fill.

To the "gentleman" who said he was "sure the award would end up in the local land fill"... consider this.

My wife and I were out to dinner last week. By luck, T.J., wife and two kids were seated 4 feet away. Never seen him before. His family behaved like "Leave it to Beaver", not "Roseanne". Toward the end of dinner I heard T.J. say the only thing in over an hour that was said loud enough for me to hear clearly. He was telling his children that "teachers are the most underpaid professionals in the world... they are molding your futures". THAT is class, character, and leadership.

How many members can there be of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Professional Football Writer's Assn.? What is this, like 3 guys sitting around Appleby's droning on and on about football? That sounds like a real "brain trust" to me!
