Official: Henry back

UPDATED: 4:34 p.m. -- Wide receiver Chris Henry is back on the 53-man roster. Wide receiver Skyler Green was waived.

The Bengals are 7-14 in their last 21 games, 2-9 in their last 11 and 2-6 this season. I asked Marvin Lewis at his news conference if anyone else in the organization -- beyond players and coaches -- share in the responsibility?

"No. Not at all," Lewis said. "I think that would be a cop out, an excuse. We've got enough ability here, enough talent here, players and coaches alike to be better than where we are, so that's my fault."

-- Lewis said that four players injured Sunday -- including Chad Johnson (neck) -- have a chance to play Sunday at Baltimore. Lewis said Johnson had a neck strain and was at work today. Johnson declined to talk in the locker room to reporters.

-- The other injured players from Sunday are tight end Reggie Kelly (knee), safety Herana-Daze Jones (knee) and linebacker Anthony Schlegel (back). Kelly was on crutches before leaving Ralph Wilson Stadium. Lewis said that Kelly and Jones had "knee bruises."

-- Lewis said he would know more Wednesday whether defensive tackle John Thornton (neck stinger) could play Sunday. Thornton was inactive Sunday at Buffalo.

-- Lewis said running back Chris Perry would return to practice this week. Perry said he feels good enough to practice and that how he handles practice physically will determine whether he is game ready.

-- Wide receiver Chris Henry is scheduled to come off his suspension this week. Lewis said he was seeking further clarification from the NFL about procedure for Henry to come off his eight-game suspension. A league official told The Enquirer two weeks ago that Henry did not have to apply for reinstatement and was eligible as soon as the eighth game was served.

-- Members of the NFL Players Association, including executive director Gene Upshaw, are meeting now with Bengals players.

Im not trying to be political, but I had this idea and had to post it:
Mike Brown's comments compared to another guy's (W) delusions:
MB: Marvin Lewis's job is secure, and I am happy with it.
GWB: Brownie (head of FEMA), you're doin a heck of a job

MB: Who's that guy from Pittsburgh, No. 86, Hines Ward? He's our Ward.
GWB: "Jessica Simpson is here with us, which means we've finally introduced reality TV to the Lincoln Theater."

MB: To date, the season has been a disappointment. We are only at the halfway mark, and there's lots of time left, time enough to change it around, and I think we will.
GWB: (on the flight deck of a carrier) Mission Accomplished

MB: Our GM is a three headed monster, Katie, Troy and me.
GWB: Cheney, Bush, and Rumsfeld.

Sorry to get political, I actually am not a dem or a rep, but thought the similarities in denial and delusion were strikingly similar. There are lots more but I have a life!
3S- keep buying those tix Sincy!

I'm shocked that Deltha O'Neal isn't on the injured list....the play when Marshawn Lynch scored the TD is a microcosm of the season...watching Deltha fall backwards flat onto his a$$ had me in laughing hysterically for 10 minutes....I was sure thet he blew out a knee falling backwards like that.

Pitiful.

Who cares if Chad Johnson plays on Sunday? If he plays like he has been playing the Bengals are better off without him. Maybe they waived the wrong wide receiver.

WDHH has a point-ML's comments are the same every week, and we see no changes in the D from week to week and year to year. It almost makes me wish they had announced before the season started:

"A notice to all Bengal fans-Given the absence of Pollack and Thurman this season, as well as the plethora of youth in the secondary, we do not anticipate much defensive proficiency this year. Have no fear though-Chad, TJ, and Carson will provide some quality entertainment, and may even win us a few games. Please do not expect a winning record though, as our defense is simply not that good this year. Thanks for your support, and keep buying those tix!

Sincerely,
Marvin, Mike and Katy

Of course, they'd never admit this, but it would almost be better than the usual drivel.

Yeah, Chad doesn't make touchdowns any more, so the only way he can get some camera time is to get laid out.

You'll notice that when Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow stopped acting like total egomaniacs, they and the Browns started playing a lot better. Maybe Ocho Sucko ought to take the hint. Or move on.

Marvin Lewis says he doesn't need a General Manager. Let me see 8-8,8-8, 11-5, 8-8, 2-6. Ok I give Why not? I guess we don't need a defense either.

If it was not bad enough, NFL Replay has the game on...I think I would rather watch cartoons..wait this is like a cartoon except Wiley Coyote is alot smarter. Five years and the defense gets worse every year...defensive genius or the result of great players and an average defensive coordinator...Baltimore has been a great defense since ML left and he has been nothing except an average coach.

Thank goodness for Chris Henry - ripping Chad was getting old, plus debatable.

But please go on ripping the Brown Family dynasty - they deserve it all and MUCH MORE. Although they're not doing bad for a bunch of Ivy League lawyers trying to run a NFL franchise.

Some of the comments on here make me embarassed to be a Bengal fan. You people are like folks in the Bible-you hail Chad and Marvin as saviors and welcome them into town then are ready to crucify them days later. Too bad Chad was catching TDs to half empty PBS crowds before Ocho Cinqo, before the Riverdance, and before the Bengals were good enough for you to support them. Please exit the bandwaggon and leave my team alone.

FIRE MIKE BROWN!

Anything less than that is really absolutely totally pointless. It would be better if the team had left for Los Angeles.

If King Roger the Commish really cared about the quality of the product on the field, he would FORCE Mike Brown to sell the Bengals. They are an embarrassment to the NFL!

Where exactly does he say there's no need for a GM?

Mark:
I was wondering if you could post a side by side comparison between the Bengals scouting department and the scouting department employed by the Steelers.
As much as any Bengals fan hates the Steelers, one has to admit that they have been and remain the best franchise in our division. Mike Brown may have added scouts to the department when he hired Marvin Lewis. It would be interesting to see how his "expanded" scouting department looks in comparison to the resources devoted to scouting by a team that consistently drafts and performs well. On the same note how does our scouting department stack up to the Patriots and the Colts? I don't think you're ever going to see Mike Brown admit that he and his daughter and son in law are a bad GM. It seems like it would be harder for him to defend his operation if the resources he's devoting to finding and evaluating players pale in comparison to those employed by other successful teams.

The following quote appears in an article by Hobson on the Bengals website:

"Houshmandzadeh has noticed that when Johnson goes over the middle and is anticipating contact, he tries to catch the ball with his body instead of his hands.

"I tell him," Houshmandzadeh said, ' "just reach out and catch it with your hands and go.' "

I thought I had seen this, but couldn't be sure. This is really disturbing. TJ has essentially said that Chad has been using "alligator arms" (what I used to call TO disease). That habit -- failing to extend your arms -- is caused by a desire to avoid being hit while exposed. Leads to drops and misses of catchable balls. Bad, bad, bad for a pro.

I suspect TJ has calculated the effect of calling Chad out on this in public.

Great question Mark, I am not sure why people are riding you like they are. I think people are pointing their frustration at you for the teams inability to win, accept responsibility or communicate anything of value to the fans and the media.

Mark:

I believe I had a chance to listen to excerpts of Marvin’s press conference on Clear Channel 700. The question I heard was about “Do the Bengals need a GM?” His response was, “That’s not a football question; this week is about getting ready for the Ravens.” While I am sure many fans have an interest in this answer, to question a contracted employee about whether he thinks that the boss needs to change the organization is like expecting a politician to give an honest answer. To speak his opinion when things are really bad, and have it perceived as slamming his boss, would just about insure that Marvin will be coaching at some junior college in Montana. He may or not be a good coach but to the many fans who can not manage their own lives, working for a family business is not like working at P&G or GE. Also, until “Anonymous” has walked in those shoes try to remember this, you guys voted to build the stadium, line up for tickets and paint your faces on Sundays. Ownership is the issue and until the local media (print and broadcast) put the heat where it belongs and the fans stop buying tickets what motivation is there for ownership to change.

1 winning season in 17 years doesn't mean the Bengals have talent it means they are a bunch of losers! Cincinnai is crying for a winner in form of sport because our city has been bad for such a long time.....

Its fun watching how Bengals fans act when the team is losing. It just shows you how they really are.

at 11/06/2007 3:13 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

King Roger will step in when the team loses revenue at the local level. A team that loses creates a trickle down effect on the franchise's value, which in turn affects the league.

A losing team eventually will decrease revenue in tickets, merchandise, concessions, sponsorships, luxury boxes and radio media rights.

The new facilities aren't used to attract new players so the team can win. It is simply a ploy to show the NFL they are spending money as a sign as being trying to be competitive as the rest of the league. They may have similar facilities as other teams but it hides the fact that the improvements made are not done for winning but rather for appearing to want to win.

I am a former season ticket holder who refuses to invest any money in a team that refuses to invest in itself to win.

No, it doesn't show how the fans are, it shows how incompetent you are, Mike!

In the NFL, word has gotten out that losing to the Bengals would be a major embarrassment.

Still, if Palmer airs it out and Henry hasn't caught Oucho Stinko's alligator arms disease, the offense gets a major upgrade...how is Baltimore going to keep up?

Only turnovers can beat the Bengals this weekend. Finally, a win coming up IF we don't play Bengal Football...

Palmer needs to do a Big Ben impersonation this Sunday...THROW THROW THROW and THROW some more.

My question is, why wasn't Mike Brown asked this question (do the Bengals need a GM) in the interview for Sunday's paper?

at 11/06/2007 10:05 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

How about we give Los Angeles Mike Brown and the Bengals, and take Kobe and the Lakers?

This is what the evidence shows regarding Henry:

Guilty: of being a better physical and mental talent at WR than Chad Johnson

Guilty: of costing the Bengals another season due to his suspension (with Henry this year, we're 4-4 not 2-6)

Not Guilty: Henry is now officially in good graces with the NFL again. Stay that way, will you? You'll make more money, and make us forget Oucho Stinko, and next season, maybe we'll actually make it to the second half of the season without being BEYOND HOPE for the playoffs.
