Lewis on being 2-6

Marvin Lewis was asked after the game for his thoughts on dropping to 2-6:

"That's what we are, 2 and 6. We're not happy about it," he said. "There's nothing I can change
about it. It's disappointing. But we've got to make football plays. We didn't make enough plays again today. We just got 14 points offensively, we've got to get more. We give them too many. We allowed the first drive down the field. They are able to keep a couple of drives alive converting third-and-longer situations. And I don't think we converted one of today."

I expect him to declare tomorrow that henceforth the Bengals will be scoring at least 21 points per game.

Hey what is this whole thing about Mark kissing M. Brown's you know what? Hey guys he pretty much spelled out, you're having a bad season how do you feel about it? Your defense is bad, it's your fault how do you feel about it? Is Chad Johnson a distraction? Is Marvin Lewis' job on the line?

Tell me how are these questions kissing anything? He has to work with this guys employees everyday. He can't come out and say, most people think your an idiot cause you draft defensive players and your defense stinks.... That really wouldn't be journalism.

It's Mike Brown's ambiguous and innocuous answers that you should be upset about. Not Mark's questions. You guys really don't understand NFL football.

Hey anonymous @ 6:19---Questions like that are normal in the media where there are GOOD football writers like New York, Dallas, Washington, Pittsburgh, etc.

Are you reiterating 6:19's point? I'm not sure if you were agreeing with him or not? I think that is what he was trying to say. 6:30 I'm not sure you understand what the blog was about, see the blog before Chad getting taken off the field.
Also, by saying those are questions posed by GOOD writers does that mean that he as been "Bengalized" or not?

Unless they do something drastic, does anybody see anymore wins this season? This has got to be the worst defense since year 1. Its a total disaster. How about a 2-5-4 defense since they cant rush anyway? Why waste 4 pass rushers? They need to try something different. Stand up the defensive ends and use Johnson, Jones and Jeanty with them. And while I'm on it, some one tell Brooks and Miller to suck it up and get their asses back on the field!

Who cares what Marvin thinks/says. He is Mike and Katy's problem at this point. Time to move on. He will be the coach here at least another couple of years. Look for heads to roll on the defensive and special teams staffs, but Marvin is just the sort of head coach lackey the Brown family loves. Willing to walk the plank, and to take one for the team.

6:49...let me put it in clearer language for you since you are probably from the west side or Kentucky....Writers in Cincinnati would NEVER ask Marvin a question like "Marvin, you let a team get 400 yds on you today who avg. 240...whose fault is that specifically yours or Chucky?" "Is Chad a distraction to Carson?" That is my point.

Mark's job is to be an objective reporter. He is not supposed to make the team look better or worse than it is. Just because fans think Mike Brown is a worthless owner who thinks he knows football because Paul did is not what Mark is paid to defend or explain. His job is to report the news of the team. The writers in N.Y. are not reporters they are headline mongerers who often misreport stories.

Mark keeps this thing updated and does a good job of relaying important, and pedantic-but-intersting, information. Plus he throws his opinion in enough to keep it lively and more than the agate wire.

If you think reporting is attacking people with angst-filled questions you just don't get the job. You, and I, are irrational fans with emotional attachments. We get mad and want to shout mean questions and demand apologies for our pain when the team loses. Sure he is supposed to press and ask hard questions, but not to the point irrational fan who posts anonymously want.

We always think or team is worse or better than it really is depending on the situation.

Mark is not supposed to be one of us. They don't let our ilk (or at least when we are showing our colors) into the press box and locker rooms.

So keep it up, Mark. I get all my news from your blog. It's great for us out-of-market fans.

Ben, do you work for the enquirer? I cancelled my subsription to that fish wrap a long time ago....if you get your news from them, it is no wonder you think Cincinnati is such a great place.

Cincinnati is a great place. Having lived there twenty years ago, I appreciate it more than I ever did when I lived there. Mike, you probably have never lived anywhere else, so you have nothing to compare to. I think the Enquirer does a good job on the Bengals. What's Mark going to do, ask a question that Mike Brown doesn't like, and the interview ends? Then you get a three line story.

I for one don't fault Mike Brown. The Brown family has given the Bengals what they need to be as good as any other NFL team. It is obvious that many Bengal fans have forgotten what it was like from 1990 - 2003.

In the end, it really doesn't matter. It's just a game.

It's up to a good reporter not just to ask a question, write down the response, and move on to the next prepared question.

When you ask that idiot Mike Brown if he's at fault, and he mumbles some idiotic excuses about injuries, you're supposed to point out how much the team has stunk no matter who was playing or coaching. They stink EVERY SINGLE YEAR. The defense has stunk since forever. The point is not to let Mike Brown get away with bullsh*t answers... not to be a bent pipe for official pronouncements from Bengals HQ, when those pronouncements don't correspond to reality that everyone can see.

Mike Brown lives in a world of denial, but that doesn't mean the Enquirer has to pass along his "thoughts" unchallenged.

Never mind the ?'s Mark is asking how about these ?'s for all of us. We were duked by this team and there is no ? about it, they are garbage plain and simple. Buffalo had 6 offensive TD's before this gm...6!! Lynch was looking for his 1st 100 yard gm..he gets 150+! Lee Evans is the only legit receiver they have, he torches the D for 160+, and were bitching cause we don't have Henry and Perry? The Bills torched this secondary with basically 1 player!! We have the worst D-line, secondary and LB core in the NFL! I can't think of any other teams D I would not take.
Face it, there is nothing to fix this is as good as it is going to get..PERIOD time to wake up from fantasy land!

Ben, it's impossible to think this team is worse than it really is.

Sportswriters ought to ask Marvin Lewis why the Bengals lack stars on the OL & DL & LB & DB...could it be no one from Brown to Lewis to Katie knows how to evaluate talent pre-draft?

Why are the Bengals deep with Receiver talent yet have zero depth or quality anywhere else except QB and RB...where marginal performances are being produced nearly every week...?

How many WRs will we draft in 2008? How many RBs?

You know this dumb team will waste at least two draft picks on WR/RB next year. They always do. They're such idiots.

How about going LB, DL, LB, OL, DL, OL, DB in 2008? Just try it, once, a draft with ZERO OFFENSE.

Who knows, if Lewis remains as head coach, we could go 2-14 and have a top LB come in next year. Though poor coaching is the #1 off-season thing to address.

Marvin is a brilliant, brilliant head coach. I hope he stays here for years and years to come. His grasp of the obvious astounds even me.

What happened to the Defensive marvel that Lewis was at Baltimore and Washington?

at 11/05/2007 1:03 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think that Marvin Lewis should make some adjustments. Yeahh they aren't having a good year. But sitting around and mopping about it isn't gonna do anything to help. No one is going to feel sorry for you. Make the adjustments that are needed and get on with it. Stop trying to make people feel sorry for you guys. It isn't working!

I would like to comment on the bengals needing a GM. Someone needs to get ahold of Mike Brown and explain to him he is tarnishing his fathers image. That is the only thing I think that could shake some sense into him. His bargin basement way of running a football team has fielded a sub-par team. Something he has been doing for what, nearly 20 years now. He thinks we are close to being a good team. The abberation was 11-5 not 2-6. He doesn't know football, his daughter doesn't know football, Troy Blackburn doesn't know football!(what's their pedigree) Hire someone who does. This whole city is left suffering from his ineptitude and stubborness.

Is there a legal way to take Paul Brown's name off "our" stadium? Maybe a referendum?

That's the only thing that'll get Mikey's attention.
Money would but, face it, season-ticket holders aren't going to quit going to games..

I support Mark on the questions being asked.
He can't ask Mike, "Are you brain-dead?"

But when Mark asks what he did & Mike responds the why he did - that answers the unasked question.

Yes, Mike is brain-dead! (& rich by-the-way, thank you tax-payers).
