LB Miller to injured reserve

The Bengals this afternoon placed linebacker Caleb Miller on the injured reserve, ending his season. He had not played since injuring his back in the third game this season at Seattle.

The Bengals also signed linebacker Roy Manning of waivers from Jacksonville. He played college ball at Michigan and has also spent time with Green Bay, Houston and Buffalo in the NFL.

Manning, who is 6-feet, 2-inches and 245 pounds, is a third-year NFL player. He has 16 games of NFL experience, 15 of those in 2005 with the Green Bay Packers, who originally signed him as a college free agent.

In 2006, he played one game for Houston and finished the year on the Buffalo roster. He opened the 2007 preseason with Buffalo and was briefly with Jacksonville at the end of preseason. He had a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Jaguars’ preseason finale against Washington. He was re-signed by Jacksonville last week, and was inactive for the Jaguars’ game Sunday at Tennessee.

Miller has been inactive for the last six games due to a back injury suffered Sept. 23 at Seattle. He played in three games with one start on the season, posting 10 tackles and four passes defensed.

Has Lewis been able to draft anybody? Seriously, our best players are all from before his time.

About time miller's been IR'd!! we need healthy guys who can play and not waste roster spot. What about A. Brooks?? Any updates on David Pollack? is he coming back next year or ??

In a way, it'd be good if bengals lost couple more games to get higher draft pick to reload def.

Mark,

What ever happened with Chris Perry's status? I was thinking he was going to back by now, but I haven't read or seen anything about him the last several weeks. When healthy, he brings another option to both the running game and passing game, both of which could use a boost. - MB

"Miller has been inactive for the last six games due to a back injury suffered Sept. 23 at Seattle." Why are we signing another injured guy?

Let's see, another scrub linebacker added to the team.

If it comes from Mike Brown, flush it down.

Why do any of you care about Miller being out for the year? He's never been big enough or good enough to be an effective LB in the NFL...I'm not knocking the guy, it's just a fact...He gets tossed around like a rag doll at that position...In the NFL he is a Safety or a Special Teams guy at best...And he's not quick enough to be a Safety.

There are a lot of ignorant comments on this blog from people who obviously do not follow the Bengals and just want to complain...questions about Brooks who was placed on IR, about Pollack, not understanding placing Miller on IR and he was not just signed....must be nice in their world.

Anon 7:39, Ahmad Brooks was placed on IR last week. They signed a TE off the practice squad to take his place.

Mark,

It has been reported that Ricky Williams is going to be reinstated by the NFL (invest in Hostess right away). If Ricky is coming back with all of his issues, why is Odell Thurman still being left in the hinterlands?

Thanks,
Rob

And why was the player's union willing to back Pacman Jones appeal
for a lesser penalty in spite of his voluminous criminal complaints while Thurman is left to work as a handyman for two years. He may be no saint, but let's be fair.

I'm wondering what's up with Chris Perry. He obviously has a lot of talent but appears to not have the heart it takes to play in this league. No matter how much talent if he's not ready or willing to get on the field he should be repalced by someone who is. I assume if Kenny Irons wasn't injured Perry be on his way out.

Sorry to hear Caleb won't be back this year. He is underated, when he's in there and healthy he simply gets to the ball and makes plays...if you doubt that statement look at the game stats when he played he always lead the team in tackles. No doubt he is undersized but his football smarts and speed make up for it and he has done a nice job and will be missed. Also the guy is a clean cut winner who does more for the community then people realize, he simply stays below the radar. If you make a comment try to get facts straight before you show your ignorance.

It doesnt matter how much heart you have, you cant play running back on a dislocated ankle. Perry's circumstances have nothing to do with heart, it has to do with the fact that he's injury prone. All of his injuries have been legitimate and required surgery.
