Returns from injury

The Bengals are expecting some injured players to return from injury for the Arizona game Sunday.

Coach Marvin Lewis this afternoon said that tight end Reggie Kelly (knee) and defensive tackle John Thornton (neck stinger) would be back. Lewis said there was a chance that linebacker Anthony Schlegel (back) and safety Herana-Daze Jones (knee) could return.

Lewis said right tackle Willie Anderson (knee) and linebacker Caleb Miller (back) are "longer shots" to play.

Looking back at the 21-7 victory at Baltimore, Lewis said he was not happy with the rush offense.

"Yesterday we got our butts kicked," Lewis said of the offensive line play.

Leftover from Sunday at Baltimore, safety Madieu Williams has a foot strain and will be limited in practice early in the week. Rookie safety Marvin White suffered a hip flexor strain.

ROSTER MOVE
The Bengals today waived rookie cornerback T.J. Wright of Ohio University from the injured reserve list. He had been waived/injured on Sept. 1 (foot injury), and when he was not claimed on waivers by Sept. 2, reverted to the Reserve/Injured list for the completion of his rehabilitation.

Mark,
Why did we let Steinbach go last year ( I know it was money) and spent all that money on Levi who is in Marvin's doghouse...Why did our supid loser owner -- mike -- check with Marvin before he spent all that money and let a good o-lineman go? At least we won...but we will have to play better against Kurt Warner Sunday.

These injury reports are vain. For weeks we heard Ahmad Brooks was going to return at some point soon. Now, he's on IR.

None of these players will make a difference against Arizona. After one of the ugliest wins in NFL encouragement. Defense at full strengh will not stand up against a real offense. The Baltimore game was nothing to be proud of. Arizona will eat the defense up.

Mark: Please, don't be mesmerized by 7 and 9. Be a real man, a real journalist. Ride the the three headed monster (Mike, Katie & Troy) out of town. One stupid win over a pathetic team is not resurrection. Ride yourself out of town by saying loud and clear "The Browns cannot win in this league, and until they sell, the Bengals will always be mediocre at best." Daugherty has no guts, he will not say it. Be a real man, or get a job that does not require real man skills!!! (I say this with some sarcasm, but were I you, I would say it). Kentucky Scot!

I hope someone takes a real good look at the talent on this team this off season as well as the coaching staff. We need upgrades and lots of them!!!

The Baltimore win was one of the ugliest games up the games I have ever seen. Nobody won but Baltimore lost. None of these "returnees" will help. Defense will be shedded by Arizona.
Replace Bresnahan now and get a headstart on next year. Ray from the Land Of Goshen!

Marvin is not happy with the rush offense? Well it’s your fault Marvin. Get tip toeing Rudi out of the game. Use him in spot situations. He has gotten pretty with his running style just like Corey did towards the end of his time in Cincy. Start Kenny and play DeDe more. They offer speed, quickness, and pass catching ability out of the backfield. Rudi can have more time to prepare for his next MTV Cribs episode. Marvin gave old Willie the contract extension and let Steinbach go. Dumb move. They could have stuck Stacy in Willie’s spot and evaluated him to see if it could work long term. If it didn’t work out you could always draft a franchise Tackle in next years draft to replace him. Steinbach played every position on the line. Why do you think Cleveland’s O-Line play has been much improved? Steinbach has something to do with it. Part of the problem is also Dumbkowski’s predictable play calling. You have to keep teams guessing and he get’s an F for that. 6-7 years later and he is still here calling plays. I remember when his name would be mentioned as one of the “hottest” head coaching prospects in the NFL. HA!!!!!! When was the last time you heard that crap? Point proved.

I also agree with 5:05pm about the injury report from the Bengals being a joke. I’m never interested in hearing that because they string fans along by saying Ahmad is getting better and is week to week. I believed that just like I believed they would hold the shutout against Baltimore. Get real.

The Bengals are the 13th seed in the 16-team AFC tournament. Only the 2-7 Raiders, 1-8 Jets and 0-9 Dolphins have worse records than the Bengals.

LMAO! What a joke!

Why is it we always let the good ones go and keep the mediocre players? Most of the guys on the Bengals (excluding Carson, TJ, Chad, Smith, Gaethers and Henry) would be on the 2nd string backup roster of most NFL teams. A top-to-bottom rework of the entire defense and coaching staff is in order. We need a top notch personnel director.

How many times in the last 17 years have the Bengals blown the season early, only to come on and win a few games near the end just to get our hopes up for the proverbial "next year?"
Fans are delusional if they really think the Bengals are still in the playoff hunt this year.
Bresnahan and Bratkowski have to go.

Willie Anderson injures his foot, it's misdiagnosed and costs him essentially a full season.
Levi Jones has a minor knee injury that turns into a major one and hampers him most of last year and well into this year.
Brooks has a groin pull that's week-to-week, then is out for the year with a "tear".
Chris Perry broke his leg. 15 months later, he's still not back.
Palmer rehabbed a reconstructed knee in 8 months.
There's a serious problem with the Bengals medical/training staff.

Agree with the comments on training staff. There is a reason that so many Bengals are out for so long and it's not bad luck or bad coaching but probably poor training and rehab. Need a new and successful trainer.
