Mark Curnutte offers the latest on the Cincinnati Bengals


Mark Curnutte started covering the Bengals and the NFL for The Enquirer in 2000. He previously wrote about urban affairs and other social issues for the Enquirer. He won the prestigious 1994 Unity Award from Lincoln University (Missouri) for "A Polite Silence," a seven-day series about race relations in Greater Cincinnati. He also has worked as an assistant features editor and features writer at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. Curnutte is second vice president and a three-year board member of the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA). He is a 1984 Miami University graduate.

Enquirer broke story about Nicholson arrest

A reader had inquired about A.J. Nicholson's arrest in Florida for a probation violation. Here is the story Jim Hannah of the Enquirer's Northern Kentucky bureau had Saturday morning:

At this people, he's just another poorly educated 20 something with a criminal record who is going to be struggling against the legal system probably for the rest of his life.

Bad breaks and bad decisions tend to compound. It's nice to think that he'll turn it around, but statistics suggest otherwise.

I'm sure he was a solid player, but there is more to being a pro player.

He needs to rethink his life style - no easy task.

Bengals - there are plenty of good citizens and solid players around - need to get those.

This is off topic, but I know the Bengals usually like to wait and see where other teams Draft deals fall before seriously starting to sign their own draft picks. That being said, can you supply a status on any of the Bengals draft picks negotiations ?
