Kaesviharn agrees on four-year deal with Saints

Bengals unrestricted free agent safety Kevin Kaesviharn has agreed to terms on a four-year contract worth $10 million with the New Orleans Saints.

"I just felt like, when you weighed everything, the two teams (Bengals and Saints) are similar in their chances of going to the playoffs," Kaesviharn said tonight in a phone interview.

"You want to play as a player. I knew I would get an opportunity to play in Cincinnati. They couldn't tell me I would start, and nobody can give you that. You have to earn it. New Orleans is going to give me the opportunity to start."

Kaesviharn said he had offers from four teams -- Saints, Bengals, Browns and Cardinals.

"Some of them were more firm than others," he said of the offers.

Kaesviharn becomes the fifth Bengals unrestricted free agent to sign elsewhere, joining wide receiver Kelley Washington (New England), guard Eric Steinbach (Cleveland), tight end Tony Stewart (Oakland) and linebacker Marcus Wilkins (Atlanta).

Kaesviharn said he and his wife are looking to settle in New Orleans, and the quality of life and weather were other concerns -- especially compared to Souix Falls, S.D., where Kaesviharn has lived in the offseason.

"The relationships I made with the coaches, teammates and in the community, I will miss those," he said.

I thought the reason the Bengals were not going to pursue free agents from other teams, was so they could sign their own free agents. That plan worked out well.

I don't really see the point of spending htat kind of money on a journeyman at best Safety who just came off of a once in his career year.

He will never, ever, ever see those kind of numbers again. If the Bengals can coach him up into a passable NFL safety, than I look for great things out of Ethan Kilmer.

All I can think about is the "consistent, inconsistent" tackling that this guy has displayed time after time... I for one, won't miss him...

It seems they have pretty much kept their own. Both offensive tackles, the starting TE, both DEs, the starting rt guard,etc... Steinbach is the only starter to leave via free agency and we have an able replacement in the wings in Whitworth. Every body else lost, while valuble in some way, were not starters. You can't keep everyone worth a damn. That's why it's called a cap.

How can they let a great player like Kevin get away..... Makes you wonder about the stratagies for a successful team. Kevin will a hard one to replace, with his talent and experience.

Are we really calling the Evil Keanu Reeves a "great player"? The man averages 55 tackles and 2.5 interceptions a year, and he gets $2.5 million a year? We can draft someone that will produce more than that right away. Kaesviharn was fun to have because he is Keanu Reeves' evil twin, but that's where the fun ends.
