Chad on Mike & Mike: Let me go

Chad Johnson's efforts to manufacture a trade from the Bengals hit full stride today when he took his complaints with the Bengals national on the Mike & Mike radio show on ESPN.

"I was labeled selfish and a cancer, and it hurt," he said. "Fingers were pointed at me this year. If the team and the organization wants to further itself (make the playoffs), I think you need to get rid of the problem.

"It hurt me. To do me that way and not to have my back. Things were said, and nobody came to my defense."

You can't ditch a guy that is a number 1 receiver even if he is a baby. It would be a 4.5 million dollar cap hit and a ton of dead money. Then you have to find another number 1 because you can't rely on Henry.

This is not good for anybody in Cincinnati, in my opinion. I did hear some have his back during the season however so to make such a statement isn't entirely true. I for one don't want to see Chad leave would love to see him retire a Bengal. I wonder though, it seems like alot of big names want out of Cincinnati. This is alarming because if we're trying to make a winning club where is the real problem. Maybe the media maybe the manbagement maybe a combination of media, management and fans. I for one wish only the best for what Chad wants. This is a free society and have the guarantee to the pursuit of hapiness. So I wish the best future for a Bengal Icon in whatever he decides to do.

Trade the Brown family. As long as they are in charge the Bengals will be losers. This season was not at all Chad's fault.

Chad,

Boo hoo. The folks in the organization who said that were right. Now, you cry about being labeled selfish?

Now, shut up, and play football.

Anon 5:04 - you are part of hte problem, just another apologist.

Chad is under contract, period. He can show up and play football, or, he can sit at the house. His call.

Chad's crazy-when these rumors came flying, the fans overwhelmingly had his back. Inside the lockeroom is another matter-we civillians have no idea what the pulse is in there. Sure he whines sometimes, and sure he could be a better blocker...but everyone plays better when the team is winning (which we weren't this year). Anyone who's seen him run a post would know valuable he is.

Put this crybaby on the first bus out of Cincinnati. He not only thinks he is larger than the team, he thinks he is larger than the game itself.

To single Chad out as a primary issue on the Bengals is outrageous. We had numerous problems this year starting with coaching and working the whole way down the line. I agree with him. He was given mounds of criticism he did not deserve. The more criticism he received, the more you could tell it wore on him. I am a huge #85 fan! I think getting rid of him would be a huge mistake for the Bengals! Seems to me that their problems started a few years ago. They started to do well and didn't know how to handle it. Then at the height of controversy, seemed the coaches condoned it all. It went downhill from there.

To put it on Chad is ridiculous. CHAD - You have a lot of fans and supporters here! I would hate to see you go!

Mike Brown is the problem, not Cincinnati. I wouldn't be sad to see Chad go, he's so afraid to get hit that his catches suffer. Look at TJ, he took more physical abuse this year than Chad has his entire career. Chad is more focused on what celebration he's going to do after catching a TD than playing the game. He talks so much, he is a target.

Marvin goes to the Ravens. Chad goes somewhere...hopefully not in our division (but with the Mike, who knows, Chad could end up in Cleveland)and the only thing that stays the same with the Bengals? The management.

A True Cancer/Dirty Laundry. In the Military Chad is the type of person that could get you killed. Not a team player.

absolutely no one on the Bengals ever came out and said anything negative about Chad Johnson..ever

Conversely..between the media and the fans a great deal was assumed about Chad Johnson

well thats sports and if he cant deal with it it is time to move on

he gets paid millions of dollars .. press and fan criticism is part of the game

christab ..the majority of the criticism was put on the defense..not chad johnson

anon 5:04 it seems to me I have not heard of one player wanting to get out of Cincinnati for the past couple of years..quit embellishing

this is just more of Chad wanting to be recognized and this act is getting old.. Again ..hes getting paid millions of dollars Coach Lewis has always been supportive of him and if he has"family (bengals) issues"..he should not diminish the organization in public

I wish the dude would leave

If you are competitive and have expectations of winning in the post season apparently some fans and certainly the Browns think you should shut up and lower your expectations. Mediocrity is born, nursed and housed that way. Don't know why Chad wants to be competitive? Don't know why he's not willing to put up with one winning season out of seventeen?
With fans like some of the whiners I'm seeing on this thread, I guess the Bengals know their business model and fans well. The Browns keep making money and the winning is perpetually "next year".

Where ever Chad goes my fanship will follow. Chad was not the only problem of the Bengal's poor season. Last time I checked he didnt play defense and somehow with a so called "bad year" he is third in the NFL with recieving yardage. The fans in Cincinnati makes me sick..so many phonies. I bet if the Bengals was to trade them there is no NFL team (excp Pats) that would refuse him.

A simple Google search of "Chad Johnson" and "cancer" gives 23,800 results. Sure, they're not all about Chad being a cancer but enough are for a guy to get the message. Let's be honest, Cincinnati wants "stars" who accept mediocrity.

#85 would get eaten alive by the media and fans in New York. His thought process is like that of a child.

Anyways, he is under contract through 2011. Just play football.

He wants the attention being the "entertainer" he is. The only problem with that is that attention may negative. Take it or leave it.

Let Chad and his mouth as well as the world is me attitude go to New York. Let him be big market.

Since when does having a contract mean he'll be here?

This is ridiculous. No one was complaining when the Bengals were winning, but suddenly Chad is the problem, despite the fact that he put up better numbers this year? Sure he had some key drops this year, but what wide reciever in the league doesn't? Chad feels that no one had his back during the year because he took heavy criticism from the media and no one in the Bengals administration actively took his side, and few players were vocal about it. Many fans had his back, but Chad doesn't hear that, and that's not his fault. The guy is a great football player, a great person, and any of you who call him selfish need to get your heads checked and look at what Chad has done for this community and others. I think those "fans" who are so ready to blame their heroes of yesteryear should grow up themselves.

If we trade Chad, I guarantee Carson throws more picks than TD's next year and the Bengals go 4-12. Chad is not the problem, he is actually one of the guys on the team who hates losing!

I don't want to see him go. But I can't blame him for wanting out. He wants to win. But how can you win with the Brown's in control?

at 1/14/2008 7:33 PM Anonymous Anonymous said...

Great - we have 2 idiots going head-to-head (that would be Chad & M Brown) and poor Marvin's caught in the middle (I can't stand him but, how would you like to be in his position?).
I am just amazed that Chad deliberately drew the Celebration penalty and Marvin patted him on the head. Belichick would've ignored him & sat him for the rest of the game, at least. Sad!

I also don't/can't believe Chad's stupid enough to not understand this?!

Dumb talk from a wishy washy town.
Let Chad go and he'll only come back to haunt you all next year when he's in the playoffs with Jacksonville. Not to mention next year no wide receivers will get open because YOU WONT HAVE AN ALLPRO THREAT THAT IS ALL WORLD. You all will say this is feeding to his ego - but idots thats a fact. Carson wake up, get some courage, be a leader and speak up. Oh I forgot, you're part of the problem work on your leadership skills. So go ahead and trade him or let him go, because no one should have to put up with all of the crap from this wishy washy dump. Later dummies and haters !

i wanted chad out when he fumbled late in the season and just sat there and sulked why the other team could have ran it back. luckily it went out of bounds, i say get him out, hes not the same chad.

Chad is not bigger than his team. He disrepects his team and leadership. SHUT YOUR MOUTH CHAD. Celebration penalities dont help. Celebrating when losing is equally retarded. Marvin should bench you. I dont expect much from you next season your too scared to get hit. With the recent trades The Bengals will be lucky to win 4 games next season.
