Field of mush; injury reports

The playing surface at Heinz Field will not be replaced for the Bengals game Sunday night.

"It was pretty bad. When they put the new sod over the old field, it just made it a deep mush; it was a deep pile of mush," Steelers linebacker James Farrior said today. "You couldn't really get your feet set in the ground. Some of the worst conditions I've ever played in."

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said: "I'm not really (worried). The grounds crew is working around the clock. It creates a little bit of a disadvantage for everyone." Tomlin did say theories about poor conditions throwing off quarterback-receiver timing were "overblown."

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (knee) and cornerback Deltha O'Neal (back) did not practice today but would Thursday.

Right tackle Willie Anderson (knee) was limited in practice today and Lewis would not comment on whether Anderson would play Sunday night. A muddy, slow track would seem to play into Anderson's strengths. He might try to go.

As for the decision to end tailback Chris Perry's season by keeping him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list was, "in our estimation, right now, it's not the best thing for him or us."

Lewis addressed his team this morning about the shooting death of Redskins safety Sean Taylor.
"Always worry about your surroundings, who you surround yourself with" is how quarterback Carson Palmer summarized Lewis' message.

Bengals injury report Wednesday:

Did Not Participate in Practice
WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, back
CB Deltha O'Neal, knee

Limited Participation in Practice

Full Participation in Practice
S Dexter Jackson, wrist
S Chinedum Ndukwe, Achilles'

Steelers injury report

Is it true the Bengals are being forced by the NFL to wear #21 stickers on their helmets to honor Taylor in Sunday's game?

If so, it's ridiculous.

The memory I have of Shawn Taylor is him spitting in T.J.'s face during a game and T.J. being exstremely fired up about the incident. A totally classless act. I derive absolutely no enjoyment from Mr. Taylor's death, but feel like it is a bit much to expect the Bengals to make a gesture of commemoration, given the reality he didn't display good sportsmanship when he competed against us. I wouldn't expect the rest of the league to commorate Chris Henry if he had the same unspeakable tragedy. I absolutely don't wish that on Chris, but it makes the point clear enough.

What is so ridiculous about honoring a young man who was already one of the best at his position at age 24. The guy was murdered in his own home, he wasn't doing a drive by or anything. Same thing could happen to you or me.

I'm not so sure if the shooting of Taylor wasn't the fallout of something he did earlier. I think something is very fishy with how there was a reported break-in a week earlier. Also, someone who shoots to kill, doesn't shoot someone in the leg or groin area. Yes, he did die from the loss of blood. I get the feeling it was someone he knew or had done business with at some point in time..I hope I'm wrong for his family's sake.

As far as the field conditions go, they are just paying the Bengals back for the poor field they made them play on until the put the fake stuff down..

I know you guys aren't trying to be disrespectful, but it comes off that way.

By all accounts, Taylor had his problems. On the other hand, by all accounts, he had done a lot to clean up his act. Even Joe Theisman talked about how impressed he was with the way Sean had grown up over the past year and a half since having a child. If anyone were to be upset about a Redskin being a thug, it would be Theisman. To me, his comments said a lot.

Also, Antrel Rolle, who we are all very familiar with, grew up with Taylor since they were 6. He said that this was definitely not a robbery. He said that Taylor used to have a dangerous group of friends but had stopped hanging out with them (ie buying them things). Rolle seemed certain that these former "friends" were unhappy with Sean's transformation or growth and were there for payback.

I hated Taylor as much as anyone else when TJ said he spit in his face. Either way, he was very young and people change. We've all been in fights or done things that we've regretted, especially when we were his age. It sounds like Sean was really working to improve himself.

I certainly don't think that it is too much to ask our players to wear a 21 sticker in honor of his memory. The man left behind an 18 month old child for crying out loud. Let's have a little compassion.

Actually It wouldn't happen to you or me. While it is unfortunate when anyone is murdered this guy wasn't exactly a choir boy. He ran around with guns, tried to act like a gangster, and if you want to be truthful about it most likely brought on what happened to him. There are people everyday much more innocent than him dying in Iraq everyday that deserve much more of our sympathy and compassion. The only real loser in this is his family and child.

The comments in this blog entry are just so indicative of how stupid BenGALs fans really are. I am always amazed, and I hear it every day stuck in this idiotic city. You think way too highly of your team, this group of clowns that for some reason, the Who Dey Heads in this town have ordained as a playoff caliber team not living up to expectations. This is a mediocre team at best, and this is a terrible organization, at best.
As far as Sean Taylor goes, the guy was a competitor and Tj getting fired up about something, please. You mean the same TJ that has cost his team penalties for throwing his helmet, cussing out the ref? TJ is the biggest whiner in the NFL. The guy thinks he is held or interfered with on every play. Just watch, he gets up from every dropped ball with this look on his face like "throw the flag, ref!" Taylor may have been controversial, but no man deserves to die that way, with his family there, bleeding out, knowing he is gonna die. Classy Sincy.
As far as the field at Heinz goes, keep in mind, Mikey Mike's field sucked when the only cleats allowed to touch it had to be connected to an overrated, big mouthed, silly ass, semi professional criminal in white and black or orange and black stripes (Namely, a BenGAL for all you die hard Who dey heads out there). Heinz suffers from overuse in that the WPIAL high school playoffs are played there over the Thanks weekend, Pitt plays thier home games there, and the Steelers. In other words, the ROoneys make the stadium the people of Pittsburgh helped pay for, accessible to the people. I remember Mikey Mike not even allowing a band to play on the field. PBS hosts what, a high school game every now and then and the GALS. Good return on your investment Sincy. God I am always amazed at how stupid Bengal fans are.

SO you complain about the PGH field, yet you never have probably gotten to even touch the turf at PBS, turf YOU paid for, sold to you on the premise that it would make the team more competitive. One question:
How's that workin' out for ya Sincy?
3S- Stay Stoopid Sincy
Oh, and by the way, for those of you who have obviously started watching for my entries on here so you can call me names (under the anonymous id of course) and talk about me not having a job etc etc. I'm here, I will be here, and as much as what I say pains you, the fact is, it is all true, and that is what you are truly upset about in your hearts. That, and the fact that you probably can't read. But if you hate what I say, then fix your team. Continue going to games and buying tix but when you go, root for the other team, carry large anti Mike Brown banners, 'til they take them from you of course ( another Sincy exclusive), and go guerrila. Start showing up at local social events Mike Brown attends and embarras the hell out of him. More on this later.
