Bengals audition kickers

The Bengals will give a tryout today to kicker Nick Novak, cut in the preseason by Chicago. Novak was one of six kickers worked-out Monday by Kansas City. Novak, from Maryland, has 16 games of NFL experience with Washington and Arizona.

The Bengals are hoping Shayne Graham can heal from his bruised hip to kick in the opener.

"I'm doing everything I can to be as ready as soon as possible," Graham said.

Josh Huston, formerly of the Giants, also is scheduled to kick today for the Bengals.

A simple bruise can not possibly hinder a professional athlete enough to prevent him from playing, especially if you're a kicker, who seldom sees the brunt of the action in games. My thought is that the Bengals are just doing what they are supposed to do and cover all of their bases by making sure they have a back up plan. Graham will be fine.

Mark, do you know are the Bengals looking at linebacker Jordan Beck who was released yesterday by the Atlanta Falcons? Beck was very highly regarded coming out of college two years ago and was a 3rd round draft choice for the Falcons.

Hopefully, they can score points and will be in need of a kicker. Otherwise, they may just need one kickoff - either to start the game or open the 2nd half.

My brother-in-law is 6'3" 225lbs, mid-20s, can kick fifty yard field goals with plenty of height and his kickoffs land at the five. He's a former soccer player who kicks for a semi-pro football team. Oh, and he loves special teams.

Do you think the Bengals would take a look?

The Bengals should give a tryout to Kevin Koch (Roger Bacon, HS) who is the kicker for the College of Mount St. Joseph. The kid has one of the best foots in college football. Hit a 40 yarder Saturday against Wilmington College that cleared the posts by 20 yards. Easily could have made it from 55+. Call him.

This should be interesting to see who they pick up. I see everyone above talking about brother and a kicker from Roger Bacon. I think they should have an open tryout just as LA GALAXY had done to get some publicity and could probably find a diamond in the rough. I found out from my buddy today that they were having open tryouts and know and played soccer with one of the guys trying out and my buddy Brad Gilpin has a stronger foot, more accurate and faster. He hits 60 yard field goals during practice with ease, 45yards and down is accurate and ran the 40 in 4.3... They should have open tryouts for all on one day to give athletes like himself a shot.
