Thurman decision today?

Though agent Safarrah Lawson said just minutes ago that he has heard nothing from the league about the possible resinstatement of client Odell Thurman -- "The silence has been deafening," Lawson said -- sources inside the Bengals organization anticipate that today could be the day when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sends word of his decision. It would start with a call from the commissioner to team president Mike Brown and coach Marvin Lewis.

Also, the club expects to announce no signings today of any of its draft picks.

Players report Thursday.

The first training camp practice is Friday at 3 p.m.

Since this could be a good/should year for the Bengal team I'd be hesitant to take another distraction risk and even let O'Dell Thurman back on the team if he is reinstated. It will be nice to have a year of football without all the drama for a change.

It is obviously very important to sign all of our picks but I think it is very important to sign our first two very soon because with the injuries to Joseph and Chris Perry we need Hall and Irons in there getting ready to be the back ups.

OK then...think the Bengals are planning on signing any of the picks before camp starts...i guess they're so high on these guys they dont' need to reps...

I get the feeling that the delay is because the Bengals don't want Odell back, and they and the league are trying to figure out how to deal with the situation. I could be wrong, but what other scenario could be keeping Goddell from reinstating him, considering he has paid the debt to receive his penance, and "served his time".

It absolutely drives me crazy that this org can't be proactive in signing draft picks. What do they gain by waiting so long... are they really saving any money over the teams who already have everyone signed? I understand waiting on rd 1 picks, but what is the difference on rds 4-7?

I'm just as sick of our legal track record as everybody else, but I say give the guy a chance. He has made all of the right moves since his suspension. He was (like Chris Henry) just a dumb kid with too much money and fame. Give him one more try and if he screws it up again...we are better off without him!

I sure hope Thurman is reinstated today.
Also I'm dissapointed that the Bengals are not getting their draft picks signed more quickly. I'm sick of hearing about how the rest of the league hasn't signed many of their players etc. I think overall this year the Bengals could have improved as an organization but feel they have only held ground. You don't climb mountains by holding your ground, you have to be aggressive and make impact. As a fan I have adopted Marvin lewis's mantra, "I see better than I hear" 10 wins is the expectation this year-no excuses.

Why would you not want to reinstate O'Dell? He has served his time and should be given a chance. Its not like the guy is brutally killing dogs or involved in shootings. He deserves a chance. He was a beast his rookie season and with Ahmad Brooks having a year under his belt...they could be great together.

As for their draft picks..i agree that they should have them signed, but it has been a slow year for all teams.

The NFL is one of the largest Corporations in the world. There is a business side to everything that people never seem to take into count. I'm sure that the draft picks, agents, and the team want the new guys signed as early as they can, but they need to iron out the wording in their contracts.

I think the Bengals would be stupid not to let Odell back on the team. We are talking about a guy who skipped a drug test resulting into his 4 game suspension first of all. He made a stupid mistake and drove drunk. There are thousands of people who drink and drive, but don't get caught. I don't think you can classify Odell with Chris Henry. Chris Henry didn't learn his lessons on his first, second or third charge. He is a moran and if you listen to him speak you will realize how dumb he is. Odell has a sickness and he is dealing with it he says he is 7 months sober. So he should get the chance to redeem himself. This is America right? I know we are in the age of your guilty until proven innocent, because of the media. Yeah we had a really bad run of getting the negative headlines. Has anyone looked on the net and see how many suspended Denver Broncos there are? We need Odell on a really bad Defense 148 tackles for a rookie. He is a beast. If Ahmand Brookes lives up to his hype along with Odell and the secondary playing well Super Bowl here we come. Odell is a player thatg could be great and the Bengals would be foolish not to give him a chance.

"He is a moran and if you listen to him speak you will realize how dumb he is."

If you're going to call someone a moron you should at least spell it correctly. You don't want to look like a maroon (sic).

If Thurman does come back and is serious about overcoming whatever substance abuse issues he has, I hope that fans give him the same chance they've given Josh Hamilton.

Josh Hamilton's struggles in the previous 2-3 years prior to 2006 make Odell Thurman look like a choirboy...

This city welcomed Josh Hamilton with open arms...something tells me that Odell will not get the same "let's give him another chance", simply because he is guilty of being a Bengal, and the fact that he happens to have a different skin tone than Josh...

I wouldn't put it past the NFL to keep O'dell out, days after merely fining Joey Porter for assualting (and robbing) a fellow player in a very public display

No body has their draft picks signed yet. This isn't a Bengals issue. Maybe they have been slow in the past but leage wide rookies are waiting longer and longer to sign. It's really a league issue. The agents start off way high and the teams counter until they get closer to the market value. The only way to sign a draft pick by now is to OVER PAY them.

Hey 2:10, for one Josh Hamilton wasn't a Red when he got into trouble. If he was, he wouldn't be liked by Cincinnatians. Two, if you think skin color has anything to do with it, I would suspect you of racism strickly because of your comment.
Just because you want there to be a racial issue, doesn't mean there is. Racism has no place on football. Thes guys aren't Black and White they are pro athletes.

If as Bengals fans we don't give Odell a warm reception, as Reds fans did with Josh Hamilton, don't be so naive to think that it is because of race. You need to remember that Hamilton went through his trials and tribulations with a different organization. If Reds fans witnessed the early years of Hamilton's career, with all the unfulfilled expectations and wasted talent, they would have the same skepticism as Bengals fans will have this season with Odell. With Odell, we feel like the Bengals were directly short-changed by his actions. It's easy to cheer Hamilton when the Reds weren't the recipients of the adverse effects of his actions. Nevertheless, we all have short memories - if Odell shows up ready to play, and plays to his ability, all will be immediately forgotten. No question the defense needs him this year. Here's to hoping he matures in his decisionmaking.

"...and the fact that he happens to have a different skin tone than Josh..."

Why does race always have to be brought into things? Josh Hamilton would have been given a chance no matter what race he was.

If the Bengals don't give O'Dell another chance, and I think they will, its going to be because they don't have the faith in him that he is going to straighten up. He has done everything they asked of him since his year suspension.

Brian has hit it on the head, if Josh Hamilton had been a key cog in the Red's wheel in a season where he and they were expected to go deep in the post season, and had instead blown the season through his drug use, fans would have been a lot slower to forgive him for it, if at all.
I think everyone in this town loved Stanley Wilson too, right up until he got himself all coked out the night before the biggest game in franchise history. Do I feel sorry for him and the nature of his disease? Sure. But I still feel he let himself, his coaches, his team, his family, friends, and an entire city down with his selfish decision that night in Miami.
I feel the same way about O'Dell. I am pulling for his recovery, but he already burned everyone before and I am reluctant to forget that. If he gets reinstated, I am all for the Bengals keeping him, but he gets absolutely NO rope to make any goof ups. And he has to realize that we all see better than we hear, so we all better see him working a little harder than the next guy, paying one more visit to Children's Hospital than the next guy, doing one more good deed than the next guy, etc, because he owes it to himself, his family, and all of us to bust his tail to get his good name back. And he should be greatful for the opportunity to make amends.
