Latest on Odell Thurman situation in Georgia

A Georgia magistrate court will hear testimony on Friday to determine if charges should be filed against Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman, who is accused of kicking and hitting two men in Monticello, Ga., over the weekend.

David Martin, one of Thurman’s Atlanta-based lawyers, emphasized Tuesday that no charges had been filed against Thurman and said he was confident his client would be exonerated.

“Right now we’re conducting our own investigation,” said Martin, who will meet Wednesday with Thurman. “We’ll get this all straightened out.”

Two Monticello men allege in the complaint that Thurman committed acts of criminal trespass, aggravated assault and pointing a gun in the early morning hours Sunday at a house party in Monticello.

Thurman, under suspension for one season by the NFL for three violations of its substance-abuse policy, is a Monticello native.

No charges can be filed with Monticello Police because it was not called to the scene, said Chrissy Pitts, deputy clerk of Juvenile and Magistrate Civil Court for Jasper County.

“Monticello Police would not take out a warrant because the parties who are accusing (Thurman) did not call the police,” Pitts said. “They called the police the next day.”

She added that anybody can file a complaint.

“This can happen to anyone,” she said of the pre-warrant hearing application.

Thurman will have the hearing at 11 a.m. Friday before Judge Kenneth Jackson, Chief Magistrate of Jasper County. Both sides will explain details of the alleged event to the judge.

The complaint was filed by Brett Thomaston and Chad Cannon, both of Monticello.

When I heard this at work today, I just sighed. The kid just can't stay out of trouble.

Good rule of thumb for NFL players. Don't take guns to parties and don't hang out with people who take guns to parties. Lets put this one in the Player Handbook.

It will be interesting to see how the investigation plays out.

If there's not much too it, then maybe Odell has a chance to make a good life for himself.

If there is more to it, then I think his NFL career will be over.

If this turns out to be true, I hope he is gone as a Bengal. What an idiot.

We'll see how it plays out but my suggestion to Odell is stay home more and go to bed early. Wake up the next day and start training. We need (or needed) him. He is (or was)a month from reinstatement and is resembling a not very distant relative of Marice Clartte. Much better for him toput himself into a personal lockdown but looks like he just can't do it... Hope it blows over but even if it does how long until the next thing. We may actually survive with Chris Henry before Odell---that's a shocker... I think Henry WILL hold the line and have no more troubles. I would have thought Odell also but party-fights show we have a ways to go with him...

Can we please go a week or two without hearing about another Bengal getting in trouble?

...ok, just one week please. Is that asking too much.

Geez, if I am trying to get reinstated, I think I stay away from fights.

I'm all for giving these guys a second chance, but a cancer spreads like wildfires in a clubhouse. Marvin has done a great job of replacing these cancers and I say good riddance! I'd give a benefit of the doubt the first or even second chance, but after there's no excuse. Bring it on Brooks, Hartwell, and Johnson!!!

What? No comments now that the complaint has been dropped?

The silence is deafening.

Let me know how your words taste there, guys, now that you have to eat them.

Lay off of WhoDey4Life. Who does all the scouting? Who signs the checks? Who are the descendants of which the stadium is named after? Not Marvin. Who turned the team around? Who gave us fans hope once again? The biggest question is who out there is more qualified to replace him. Shut your mouth or you may just see him in Pittsburgh or some other division rival. Before Marvin we werent even contenders. For the record it's the Man on the moon and he isn't on the Bengals payroll you idiot.
