Club signs OL Kooistra to three-year deal
MIAMI -- The Bengals this afternoon announced that they have signed offensive lineman Scott Kooistra to a three-year contract through 2009. Kooistra would have been eleigible to become an unrestricted free agent March 2.
Kooistra has produced whenever he has had the chance to play, and he is a valuable part of a solid backup group of offensive linemen for the Bengals.
Kooistra, who will be a fifth-year player in 2007, played in 15 games in 2006 with time on both offense and special teams. He has played in 54 games with one start since joining the Bengals as a seventh-round draft pick in 2003.

Wow, Thank you Bengals for signing this guy otherwise he would have been snatched up in free agency. Why are we spending time signing these guys and not someone that could actually see playing time. Is Wayne Krivsky doing the signing for the Bengals now too???
I am surprised. I thought he would sign somewhere else so that he could play.
Yeah, what a terrible move...
*rolls eyes*
They got a valuable backup who is assimilated to the system and could (and has) started. No one knows the finicials yet but rest assured he didn't get Levi money.
Your gripe about them "...signing these guys and not someone that could actually see playing time". carries no weight. They can't sign anyone who played for another team in '06 until early March.
Kooistra has performed when called upon. You need depth in this league, just look at the past season if you need a fresh example...why complain about this move? Would you rather them bring Scott Rehberg back?
Honestly...
The Bengals not pursuing big name free agents is nothing new and it's not necessarily a bad strategy. Seems that New England and Pittsburgh have been quit successful not overpaying a couple guys only to have them flame out. That being said, there are some real problems in that unlike these two teams the bengals will not invest in a good infrastructure to find good players. Few scouts and a miniscule player personel dept. always puts them behind the 8 ball. Bottom line is they are primarily interested in the bottom line, not winning. For example, won't invest in an indoor practice facility, and the artifical turf will assuredly be worn to a nub before they consider replacing it. If they put half as much effort into building a winning team that they do in squeezing every penny out of Hamilton County, we would be in the Super Bowl every year.
