NFL suspends Henry for 2 games with $20,000 fine

The NFL has notified the Bengals that second-year wide receiver Chris Henry has been suspended without pay for the team’s next two games for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct and Substance Abuse policies.

Henry also will be fined $20,000.

Under league policy, Henry will be held out of practices as well as Games 5-6, but he will be allowed to attend meetings and to work out individually at team facilities. Games 5-6 are Oct. 15 at Tampa Bay and Oct. 22 at home against Carolina, the Bengals said early this afternoon in a press release. The Bengals have a bye on this weekend’s NFL schedule.

Henry will be eligible to rejoin the Bengals’ active roster on Oct. 23. During the suspension, he will be placed on Reserve/Suspended by Commissioner, and will not count against the team’s 53-player roster limit.

Henry did not play Sunday against New England. Coach Marvin Lewis de-activated Henry. In three games, Henry has 11 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns. He had a single-game career high 113 receiving yards in Week 2 against Cleveland.

Why do sports figures have to look like they are out of the Ghetto when they are making very good money. Does not set a very good example does it?

A thought crossed my mind when the Bengals lost to the Pats on Sunday: maybe we should see more humble from the likes of Chad Johnson. Seems to me when he does his "pee pee" dance, it's showing a lack of class and understanding of hard work, whether it's intended for fun or not. He should concentrate on winning games, not how creatively he can look stupid on the field. The only entertainment this fan needs is a win.

When the boys really win the Superbowl, then he can dance like a 3-year old needing to pee all he wants. Until then - decorum, decorum, decorum.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe the reason why Chris Henry is Chris Henry is that he didn't have a mother like Marc's? Or much of one at all?

granted, no defense for illegal behavior, but an explanation.

Chris Henry not only disrespects the law and society but himself. He's as good at running and catching passes as he is bad at being an adult. For this little baby, spoilt and angry at authority, I suggest a diaper change--take off his green Huggies, and put him back in the real world, where he'd be lucky to make $20,000 a year, rather than per game!

your mother sounds like a beautiful and sweet lady. I'm sad she is struggling with this illness, may God bless her and your family with His grace.

Always remember in the end, it's all about love. She sure has that as well as you! Take care.

As a West Virginia Mountaineer fan, I was proud of Chris Henry when he was a star in Morgantown. I was equally as excited when I found out about him joining my favorite NFL team - the Bengals. I have followed Henry throughout his troubles (at WVU and now in Cincy) and I see that he is not going to ever grow up. This guy is as good as it gets for a wide receiver --- probably as talented as #85, but faster. Hopefully he will get his crap together before he is yet another washed up has been.

I'm surprised by the lack of compassion shown toward Chris Henry. For sure, he is an immature bloke.
My understanding is that Henry's entire extended family was displaced by Katrina. The team roster lists his hometown as Belle Chasse, Louisiana. After Katrina, I think Henry received house guests in a considerable numbers. At that age, I don't think I could have been much of a host to my extended family.
I also have to say that he has treated my son with real respect at both the 2005 and 2006 Georgetown training camps.
Chris is a troubled young man with extremely poor judgment. If the NFL's intervention program is any good at all, I hope he gets the help he so plainly needs. Of course, it's entirely up to him to change and make effective use of the help offered. He's a great talent. I hope he learns how to assume responsibility for his actions and avoid taverns like the plague.

It won't be long and the Bengals will be brought to the field in a paddy wagon. Not people I want my kids to look up to. They get away with way too much.

Glad that Chris has been at least partially reckoned with. I sure did not see Coach doing anything except to say that he had to support his players. If Chris gets in trouble again, sure hope the Bengals dump him. And the same goes for his drinking buddy...

Quit making excuses for this thug! You don't hear about the Saints being arrested because they lost their homes. What a ridiculous comment to make. That just shows your intelligence. The law is the law and he (and most of the Bengals) seem to think they are above it because they are part of a team that is finally winning after 10+ years. Marvis Lewis is just as guilty for allowing this behavior from a professional football team. Pretty soon, the Bengals will have to forfeit games with so many players suspended or in jail!!

Dear Anon 10/8 9:45--
"Pretty soon, the Bengals will have to forfeit games with so many players suspended or in jail!!"

Anyone who makes comments like that realy shouldn't be making derogatory comments about another poster's intelligence.

I do question someone's intelligence when we are talking about thousands of people losing their homes, jobs and family members due to a horrible natural disaster. This person is using that as an excuse for Chris Henry getting arrested.... again? Give me a break. He is a THUG. Marvin Lewis needs to get a handle on this team.

Hey Genius,
"Pretty soon, the Bengals will have to forfeit games with so many players suspended or in jail!!"
This was the reference to the question of intelligence - and yes, it sounds pretty stupid

A "traumatic childhood" is no excuse for ANY bad behavior. The Bengals forfeiting games due to unavailable (jailed) players was a very funny line (probably adapted from a past season of Bearcat Basketball). I doubt that poster was serious--what was seriously stupid was trying to make an excuse for Henry. Henry has plenty of excuses. We ought to start a blog-pool here (like Super Bowl squares where the first number represents the jail sentence in years and the other number is the actual time served in months. I'll take 3-14 (three years, and out in 14 months). Note: remember that's for his next arrest and conviction! Any takers? First prize can be a LaRosa's waiter's jersey autographed by Henry on his first day of probation. Not that Buddy would trust him to bus tables!

P.S., Henry, thanks so much for helping to ruin the team's 3-0 start this year!
