Mark Curnutte offers the latest on the Cincinnati Bengals


Mark Curnutte started covering the Bengals and the NFL for The Enquirer in 2000. He previously wrote about urban affairs and other social issues for the Enquirer. He won the prestigious 1994 Unity Award from Lincoln University (Missouri) for "A Polite Silence," a seven-day series about race relations in Greater Cincinnati. He also has worked as an assistant features editor and features writer at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C. Curnutte is second vice president and a three-year board member of the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA). He is a 1984 Miami University graduate.

DT Robinson inactive against Ravens

As expected, starting defensive left tackle Bryan Robinson was listed as inactive this morning for the Bengals game this afternoon against Baltimore.

Shaun Smith will start in Robinson’s spot.

Other Bengals inactive players are cornerback Greg Brooks, fullback Nick Luchey, defensive end Jonathan Fanene, wide receiver Kelley Washington, linebacker Larry Stevens and defensive tackle Matthias Askew.

Craig Krenzel is the Bengals third quarterback.

Landon Johnson will start at strong-side linebacker in place of rookie David Pollack. Cornerback Patrick Body was added to the roster Friday in place of defensive back Reggie Myles, who was waived.

Ravens inactive players are wide receiver Patrick Johnson, safety Ed Reed, tailbacks Chester Taylor and Musa Smith, linebacker Ray Lewis, guard Keydrick Vincent, offensive tackle Orlando Brown and wide receiver Clarence Moore.

Pollack active, but Landon Johnson to start

Landon Johnson started at strong-side linebacker in place of David Pollack today against the Indianapolis Colts.
Pollack was active for the first time since injuring his knee in the Pittsburgh game Oct. 23. The start was the seventh for Johnson, who entered fifth on the team with 42 total tackles (30 solo tackles).
Pollack has two starts in seven appearances. He came in with 18 total tackles and one sack.

CROSS-POLLINATION: Bengals defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan, who was Colts linebackers coach in 1996 and 1997, greeted Colts president Bill Polian before the game on the field.
Leslie Frazier, former Bengals defensive coordinator, is now a defensive assistant working with the Colts defensive backs.

INACTIVES: Bengals cornerback Rashad Bauman, added to the injury report as questionable Saturday with a – injury, was one of the team’s inactive players Sunday.
The other inactive players for the Bengals were fullback Nick Luchey, defensive linemen Shaun Smith, Jonathan Fanene and Matthias Askew, wide receiver Kelley Washington and linebacker Larry Stevens.
Caleb Miller, who had been on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury, was active Sunday. It was his first appearance of the season.
Craig Krenzel was the third quarterback for the Bengals, but Indianapolis does not use a third quarterback. Its inactive players were running backs Kory Chapman and Ran Carthon, offensive tackle Kurt Vollers, tight end Ben Hartsock, wide receiver Aaron Moorehead, defensive linemen Josh Thomas and Darrell Reid and linebacker Rob Morris.

Pollack inactive for Ravens

BALTIMORE – The Bengals enter the game today with just 52 players on their roster, and they de-activated just six players to reach the 46-man limit.

Inactive for the game against the Ravens are starting outside linebacker David Pollack, fullback Nick Luchey, defensive linemen Carl Powell, Matthias Askew and Jonathan Fanene and wide receiver Kelley Washington.

Landon Johnson will start for the second week in a row at strong-side linebacker in place of Pollack.

The Bengals have just six defensive linemen active, and coach Marvin Lewis is without linebacker Pollack, who also plays defensive end on pass downs.
