Bengals sign WR Purify

The Bengals this afternoon signed rookie wide receiver Maurice Purify of Nebraska to a two-year contract. A college free agent, Purify -- who is 6 feet, 3 inches and 224 pounds -- participated in the team's rookie minicamp last weekend on a tryout basis.

Another WR...wow, there's a shocker! Didn't we already load-up on a few in the draft? In Marvin We Trust (insert joke here).

Notes:
Highly-touted JUCO transfer from San Francisco City College..Was arrested in '06 on two counts of assault and one count of resisting arrest and then just five weeks later he was arrested again for suspicion of drunken driving...Ironically he was a criminal justice major...He has some physical tools to work with but will need to keep his nose clean off the field.

He should fit right in!

Mark-

I read a story that said this guy is another one with a criminal history. Do we not do background checks? I think we may need an NFL appointed GM. This is way passed embarrassing.

At least Carson will have his choice of receivers to throw to come September. Hopefully guys like Purify and Urrutia can challenge some of the other 4/5 receivers (Holt, Chatman) for some playing time.

Great move Bengals! Once again you have a team talking out both sides of it's mouth regarding character players. Is the policy really this??: We will only take players of questionable character lower than the 5th round so the financial risk of them screwing up again isn't as great?

Why not just give Henry one more chance??? Unbelievable..pundits are going to have a field day with this one. So much for publicly cleaning up our image.

However...if this kid can keep his head on straight, he can be a steal as a free agent. He's big, and he took a certain Kansas corner (who went in the first round)to school when the Huskers played the Jayhawks this year. Toasted him.

The problem is the Bengals inability to take troublemakers and steer them out of trouble.

You can't worry about what everyone else thinks? But, you have to be consistant??? Once you're a bengal...zero tolerance for significant off field issues.

Keep brining in thugs and wonder why team chemistry and distractions are in the forefront of ever discussion about these losing seasons. Jeez, I can't figure out who is more ignorant, the GALs front office or the fans who drive around with those big WHO DEY stickers on their cars. I mean really, of all the questions a team's fans can ask, about a team as bad as the GALs is:
"Who dey think gonna beat them BenGALs?"
Stay Stoopid Sincy

Who Dey think gonna beat them benGALs?
wow, the Gals fans need a new chant.

Other stupid quesions I've heard Sincinnatians ask...

My 450 pound neighbor asked me the other day if I thought he could lose a few pounds. I told him no, just grow another 6 feet tall.

My other neighbor with 5 kids is pregnant again and asked me why I think this keeps happening.

Another guy down the street can't figure out why he keeps getting DUI's. He asked me if I thought it was his drinking. I told him no, it was probably the busted tailight that has been on his car for three years.

Another gal around the corner from me is on heroin and keeps asking me why she is itchy all over all the time. I told her it was probably the laundry detergent she used. I told her the powder kind is for washing the clothes, not sniffing or boiling with water in a spoon.

Oh yeah, and my favorite, "You think the BenGALs will make the playoffs this year?"

And yes, I live on the west side. And yes, these are all actual benGALs fans.

Here's to the most loyal fans in all of sports.

I think Purify is a great addition. Its funny how so many people are quick to talk smack and havent ever talked to him face to face. He is a good kid. And All this talk about thugs & criminals.... He is neither. In all his years of life and hes been in trouble for 1 fight at a bar, and 1 suspected driving under the influence......Wow he sounds like a thug...Wat is the definition of a thug anyways....? I dont see him running the streets with guns and drugs and killing people. He is a kid trying his hardest to make his dreams come true. Tell me 1 college student who hasnt been in trouble....Should this really determine his outcome...? I say "GO MO" He dont need haters in his life trying to bring him down. Cause you certainly wont be there when hes on top neither!
