Bears sign DT Toeaina

The Chicago Bears today signed rookie defensive tackle Matt Toeaina to a three-year contract. Toeaina, the Bengals sixth-round draft pick from Oregon, had been on the Cincinnati practice squad all season and had not played in a game. He was signed, by rule, to Chicago's 53-man roster and is expected to be active in the final three games, which would give him a credited NFL season.

Once again another potential upgrade on the defensive line is signed by the Bears. Why draft guys when you don't even play them.
Watch him go on to have a great career for the Bears, who by the way know great defense line players.

Mark, regarding practice squad rules, is it true when a team wants to sign someone, like the Bears signing Toeaina, the Bengals would have a chance to bring Toeaina up to their 53 man roster first, or that Toeaina could also stay on the practice squad? I realize the second option makes no sense for Toeaina, but the Bengals could've IRed someone and brought Matt up.

put the whole defense on the practice squad, and the defensive coaches.

Chicago's defensive coaching staff will turn him into an all pro. It just shows how terrible the Benals coaches really are.

A sixth round pick goes to the Bears. Great news when we are trying to build our defense. Was he any good?

If a Rookie DT intercepts a pass and runs 80 yds. for a TD on preseason... why would you move it to the practice squad and for the entire season?

Another happy little glitch that will likely come back to bite the Bengal's collective butt. Why didn't they put Willie on IR and bring "Tonee the (Bengal)Tiger" up to protect him from another team? Big Willie isn't going to play anymore this year. It is likely Tonee wanted to go to a team and get on the field.

Digusted you and those hiding behind Anon are showing your football intellect. If Toeaina was so good and ready to play why has no team signed him before now? If you studied things you would know the Bears this week lost 2 D-lineman to IR. In fact they are so desparate they even signed Jiommey Kennedy, a player Lovie Smith called a bust in 2003. Kennedy is so good he has been out of football all year. Maybe Toeaina is not quite ready for the NFL. Not to say he will not have a good career only time will tell.

Mike Brown Step Down!!!!

....and take Marvin, Chuck and Brat with you.

Once again, Mike Brown's blundering organization, ah heck, why even complain? The megalomaniac know-it-all isn't going to fire these ridiculously untalented coaches and scouts. We'll draft another running back next year, and keep serving as a minor-league team for the Patriots and Bears and Bills (and many others).

Why can't we just have a normal, sane, intelligent pro franchise management team in this town?

Congrats for escaping Toeaina. I'm sure we'll see you in the pro bowl at some point in the next few years!

Let's go BenGALS. Here's hoping for a win this weekend in San Fran so that you can not only blow up (more on this term later) your season, but also ruin your draft. Way to go guys.

Can we please outlaw the term "Blow up". It's bad enough that Brad Jo uses it every other play to describe benign, weakass tackles while Lap screams and carries on like a drunk west sider at PBS, but it now is making its way into the local vernacular. Please, someone call for a moratorium on the term.

By the way, the diaspora of Who Dey Heads continues. In the last two weeks I have converted three die hard Who Dey Heads to other teams. One actually will not be renewing his season tickets (he was easy to convert). There is hope Who Dey Heads. It comes in the form of three diamonds and five Lombardi's, or solid orange helmets, or even a big horseshoe. These are all regional teams that will treat you as a fan much better than Mikey Mike ever has. A true benGAL fan would drop the GALS. Send a message, influence change, then return the victors!

Marvin Lewis and Mike Brown. Both asleep at the wheel. We wonder why the d-line is ranked in the 30s year in and year out. You have one of the premier defenses in the league plucking "talent" off our squad. Are we fighting for a playoff spot? Why wasn't he placed on the active roster with 3 games to go? Now we'll have to watch him blossum while we continue with our 30th ranked defense. Thanks Lewis and Brown?!

Mike and Marvin are idiots.

Both are have been in over their heads for years and this is just further proof.

What position are the Bengals in then most need? Likely D-line.

So they let a guy they drafted, who has great potential, walk away for nothing.

It'll make sooooo much more sense when those idiots use the first round pick to draft a d-lineman.

Two steps forward, 8 steps back.

Toilet talent, wasted draft pick. He'll be warming the bears bench with his useless behind.

Wasted draft pick? Well now he is, genius! You don't know what the kid can do when he actually plays IN the NFL. We do know that the idiots who run and manage and own the Bengals are toilet talent! I'm so sick of them I wish the NFL Network would make all their games pay-per-view and put us out of our misery.

NFL and Time Warner are a bunch of greedy bastards. Anyone else annoyed at Time Warner playing their stupid commercials twice as loud as programming?

Mike Brown isn't fit to manage a 7-11, let alone an NFL franchise.

And Marvin Lewis is in way over his head working for this lousy organization.

Cincy fans deserve a real NFL team, not having to suffer any more of Mike Brown's awful joke of a team.

I didn't watch the entire Bears/Vikings game last night, but I did get to see some impressive Toeaina tackles on AP. Good job letting that guy go...
