Notes: Palmer takes loss hard

-- Carson Palmer was not around Paul Brown Stadium by the time outside reporters were allowed in at 3 p.m. today.

But it was clear, from the words of his head coach that the fifth-year quarterback was taking his performance in the Arizona loss hard.

Palmer threw four interceptions in a game for the first time in his pro career. Lewis said he spoke directly to Palmer in the third quarter of the 35-27 loss to the Cardinals.

"Obviously, our quarterback is a fine player, and he’s not going to have days like that often," Lewis said. "We can’t allow him to shoulder this. He’s pulled us out of those jams many times. We don’t want him to feel, as he does, responsible."

-- Rookie Leon Hall is apparently the new starting left cornerback in place of Deltha O’Neal. Hall and Johnathan Joseph were the Bengals’ starting cornerbacks the past two games.

O’Neal, though, has fought knee and back injuries this season.

"I just thought that the other two guys are doing what we need to be doing and doing it better," Lewis said. "I like the rotation of things. We're able to dole out the snaps a little better.

"Deltha's done a great job, where he is right now. We’ll see where we go each week. I'll do that week-to-week."

Palmer should take it hard he is a hack.

I think that Palmer had problems seeing over the D-Line during the game and subsequently lost track of the DB that had the 3 picks.

He definately should not have had 4 ints though because he should have been sitting on the pine as soon as he gave up the third one.

He could be a personal favorite for the coach and the fans but he should be benched when it's obvious that he is hurting the team. My bewilderment is where is the coaches head is on things such as this.

Also, a consideration of Arizona playing 7 or 8 deep on passing plays speaks volumes about the running game and volumes about the QBs ability to scramble. Another QB may have been able to bring another element to the game.

As for the DBs Joseph, Hall and O'Neal that you mention, I think that Hall is a future star and I've noticed that he's really improved his game and is fundementally sound. O'Neal shows flashes of good coverage from time to time but I'm guessing that Cincy is letting Hall get experience for the remainder of the year. However I think that they will have to draft another player next year to replace Joseph because he appears to be lost out there. Too many times I've seen him heading in the wrong directions on passing plays and he is extremely weak in coverage. I think that he's a liability on the field and that coaches will have to address the problem.

Palmer isn't going to be the main reason for the Bengals losing much in his career, but man yesterday I think he was the main culprit!

He just had a terrible game.

But even the best do. People were trying to run Brett Farve out of Green Bay the last 2 years, now he is back to legendary status apparently.

Peyton Manning threw 6 interceptions the other week.

So it happens...it's just magnified a bit when the team is so bad.

Did anybody who watched the game and made these comments ever play the game?
The defense was stout in the second half. Palmer was out of synch and continued to plug away. He was the best option to win the game. He helped put 20 points on the board and could have had more without silly drive killing mistakes / unprofessional behavior.

Whitworth jawing at the ref? What the hell was that? Chad playing dispiritedly.

The emotion, what ever was there, was on the defensive side of the ball but it waxed and waned. Offensively, the team is a bit flat and not working well as a team. Is Levi still angry? Why was the O-line so vulnerable to the killing penalties?

People trolling the boards make a good tee hee hee for themselves, but think about it, this team is on the 4th string linebackers and second string O-line.
The D-line put great pressure on Warner. He made some amazing plays.

Are you guys STUPID !! Carson is the REAL DEAL -- If we could run he would not be forced to pass and everything would be ok. He is forcing the ball since Rudy is gaining one yard per carry...COME ON...GET OFF CARSON'S BACK...HE IS A GODSEND TO THIS SUCKY FRANCHISE.

I can't believe there's not more heat on Bratkowski.
Our play calling has been ridiculous this year.
Dansby and Rolle were dropping back and just waiting for the throws to come. The Bengals run a timing-based offence where Palmer's throwing to a spot, and the Cardinals knew where that was.
And they never throw deep anymore. The one time they did, they scored, but they never even try to stretch the defense anymore.
The longer this season goes, the more apparent it is the coaches, Lewis, Bratkowski, Bresnahan, are really having a horrible year.

The team would have won if Palmer doesn't throw those interceptions however, this team would still not be playoff bound even if they won the game. So in reality, it's a meaningless loss in a meaningless season.

It is fairly obvious by now that the Bungles are back to form. It doesn't matter what QBs we get or how many new coaches we get. Cinci cannot win and that's that. Nothing will change until the Bungles are sold to new ownership which will be never. Palmer is not that good, as a die hard Bengal fan let me be clear, big numbers are not what impresses me at all, IT IS WINNING NUMBERS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! I am somewhat glad the Bungles lost though because now some of the female fan base will disappear. Females always leave once a team starts losing. Funny how all these years I have watched about every game when there was no college chicks wearing CJ jerseys. I am so sick of this team. They are all glitz and NO substance. We have only been to playoffs once since 1990, that is PATHETIC.

Palmer should have been benched? Are you kidding me? He's an elite quarterback in the league and did give the team the best chance to win. You don't run second string players out there who have seen no playing time this year. Yeah, he threw interceptions, but he also has the ability to turn a game around, as he has many times before. One bad game in a lost season and people are all over him. Give me a break, you are free to call players hacks and so on, but look at the stats first. He was 4th in passer rating before the game, and he wasn't innacurate during the game. He made some bad decisions on the interceptions, but you also have to tip your cap to the defense for Arizona in disguising their schemes. The Bengals success in the no huddle depends on recognition of the other teams defense before the snap, but the Cardinals kept moving so it was hard to read.

Palmer is taking the blame, and giving no excuses like a professional even though he could hide behind his superstar status and make as many excuses as he wanted. We better get him a defense if we want to compete, or it won't matter how good he is.

Palmer having a bad game once in a while is acceptable. Even hall of famers like Marino and Manning had thier fair share of picks. Hell, the guy's only human. I do think he has way too much pressure to carry the whole load when the defense doesn't do it's job.

The Cardinals exposed three major weaknesses with the Bengals offense Sunday - the lack of a Tight End that is a threat down the middle, Carson's reluctance to tuck the ball and run, even if it is 6 or 7 yards and out of bounds or 7 or 8 yards and slide, and no real running game. I don't remember them using any play action to freeze the linebackers who were dropping 20 yards back into coverage virtually every pass play. Good offenses take what the defense gives them. We're just not that good.

what this stuff about palmer not being able to see over the d-line palmer is taller than most of them.lets look deep into the game palmer drops back and makes his reads and,the recievers had a hard time getting out of there breaks they got out physicaled.so being the gunslinger that palmer is he started throwing trust passes.one pick was very bad.he still almost won the game for a team that's sucking the life out of him.palmer is the best thing that ever happen to loser town.so support him don't down him.without him seller dweller forever.and one other thing why the hell would they get rid of stienbach the best lineman they had!

When will Ndukwe finally take over at one of the safety spots, im tired of missed tackles and blown assignments by the "starters" who get excited about one play they made down 15 points....i would rather see ndukwe, herna dez jones marvin white and john busing get a chance, at least they play like this is the last chance they have, and they are trying to earn respect by the coaches and the other players on the team

Hey, Did Tony Romo was benches when he got 5 interceptions against Buffalo? NO

Did Dallas win that time? YES

Why make such a big deal of it? Carson Played terrible, but the most successfull playres are tne ones that come back from a frustrating loss.

Brett Farve has thrown 5 picks in our stadium, manning threw 6 the other night it happens to the best, what carson does this week will be a test of leadership and character!!

Glad to see the posters rally around Palmer. The thought that he be benched after his 3rd INT is completely ridiculous. The main reason he threw those picks was because the Bengals have no running game to speak of, and the Cards showed ZERO respect for the run. Dropping 7-8 defenders into pass coverage makes it very difficult to complete passes. They need to re-establish the run game to at least have that threat. Getting down early in the game makes that even more difficult though. Palmer is the least of the Bengals problems, and by that I mean he is one of the only bright points to this dismal season.

Hey ANON 12:43
I read you post and the only thing that comes to mind is WHAT?

1st "Palmer is not that good" your right 2 pro-bowls in the first 3 years as a starter is horrible. I long for the days of Scott Mitchell. Look, Akili Smith, and David Klinger were "not that good" Carson is good, but he can't do it by himself. He is not the reason this team is 3-7.

2nd the term "Bungles" did you come up with that term yourself, that is so original, I have NEVER heard that one before.

3rd, let me get this strait, you are GLAD the Bengals lost because "because now some of the female fan base will disappear" WHAT!?!?!?!? So you are saying you would rather go to a game with fat old men wearing Krumrie jersey's than young college women wearing Chad jersey's? I say again WHAT!?!

Carson Palmer will leave Cincinnati at the first opportunity, which may be sooner than many could imagine. If I were Carson I would get out of here ASAP.
